The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Ramadan terror concerns?
Full Story

ATLANTA (CNN) -- As more than one billion Muslims prepare to celebrate Ramadan, terror experts are mixed about whether the holy month is a tool for recruiting terrorists.

Some terrorism experts and Islamic scholars say Ramadan gives extremists an opportunity to enlist new recruits.

"It's a time which can be exploited by radical clerics to motivate individuals into taking action on the basis they are somehow serving their religion," says terror expert M.J. Gohel.

And analysts see another temptation for terrorists: exploiting the Battle of Badr, a symbolic date in Muslim history, which falls near the U.S. presidential election.

I did a little digging on the "seventh sky" phrase. Seems even more harrowing.

"Muhammad passed through seven heavenly realms. In the First Sky he saw Adam being shown the souls of his descendents both good and bad. In the Second Sky he saw Jesus and John, son of Zachariah. In the Third Sky he saw the handsome Joseph, son of Jacob. In the Fourth Sky he saw Idris, the prophet from before the flood. In the Fifth Sky he saw Moses' older brother, Harun, with his long white beard. In the Sixth Sky Muhammad met a tall man with a hooked nose and Gabriel said it was Moses. In the Seventh Sky Muhammad saw an old man in a seat by the gate to Paradise where 70,000 angels pass through each day but do not return until Judgment Day. Gabriel identified him as Abraham. Gabriel then took Muhammad into Paradise where he spoke to God."

Night Journey

"Who created the seven skies layer upon layer! (It comes in narration of the Prophet Mohammed that on top of the first sky is the second sky, and on top of that is the third, all the way up to the seventh sky. And the distance from one sky to the other is five hundred years of travel)."

7th Sky Journey

Since I think the Islamic faith also recognizes Moses and the Ten Commandments as delivering the Law, and Moses was born somewhere in the 16th century BC and the Commandments were delivered when he was about 80, that would put us roughly 3500 years (7th sky x 500) post Moses.

An end time prophecy of their own?

I just noticed that the As-Sahab logo is on the new UBL tape also. It's on the lower left, and in the stills, it's hidden partially behind the AJ banner.

Wasn't easy to see amidst all the different logos, but you're right it's there in the left corner.

Legal concerns delay terror list for air passengers
By ALEXANDER PANETTA AND JIM BRONSKILL

OTTAWA (CP) - A Canadian version of the U.S. no-fly list that infamously had folksinger Cat Stevens deported and Ted Kennedy hassled at airports is running into legal turbulence.

Plans for a home-grown edition of the U.S. list banning suspicious passengers from airplanes are being buffeted by uniquely Canadian concerns, says Transport Minister Jean Lapierre.

"It's not in place at all," Lapierre told The Canadian Press in an interview.

Well, once again, you've found the "just plain weird" :-)

Seriously, a threat to Los Angeles (or any other major city) and then the reference just "disappearing" (read=pulled) is none too comforting. Thanks for pointing that out MamaD.

Love you too, Ruth! :-)

Is it Callmejoe who always reminds us.....the water, the water, the water?

So if it's water, we've got the ships, submarines, scuba divers, poisoning water supply...etc.

And as I write this it just dawned on me that we are in the "Age of Aquarius" and that Aquarius in the Zodiac calendar begins on Jan, 20th.

Just thinking out loud...

MD, I just realized what you were getting at in that article that you couldn't find.

The part about Los Angeles that you mention is just part of the dateline of the article.

It was "Los Angeles October 28", not that there was a threat to LA.

That's the way I'm reading it.

If you look at the article, you'll see at the top, the title about the terror attack to the US, but then it's the usual journalistic format, it gives the location and date for the article, where it was posted from, in the next line.

Terrorists recruiting in prisons
By Renwick McLean The New York Times
Monday, November 1, 2004

MADRID Rather than scan all of society for recruits, Islamic militants in Spain have found that many of the most promising candidates have already been collected into one bountiful pool, law enforcement experts say.

It is the Spanish prison system, which has become increasingly populated with immigrants from North Africa, many possessing the characteristics that the recruiters are seeking, the law enforcement experts say. The prisoners are often Muslims, even if frequently lapsed ones, and they are often bitter about their lives in the West or their prison experiences.

The pool of recruits, which included 18 arrested two weeks ago, began as a collection of unacquainted men jailed for minor criminal offenses like weapons possession, document fraud or robbery, the police said. But their time in prison transformed some of them into the Martyrs for Morocco, a terrorist group planning to blow up the national court in Madrid, investigators said.

"It has confirmed that the nucleus for recruitment is centered on people convicted of common crimes," Baltasar Garzón, the judge investigating the case, said in a report released last week. He urged the government to tighten controls on the prison population.

Prisons in other countries have become recruiting grounds as well, experts say.

"It was the message from Zawahiri, and when he talks, he means business.
He stated it would be:
unlikely
unexpected
something not watched
not a landmark
more devastating than the WTC
now if we could only figure what could this be?"

Start with listing what you do know...known landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Niagra Falls, etc.; known things that are watched such as airports, nuclear power plants, water, etc. Post it and let people add and/or discuss what should be removed from the lists.

"My guess is a coordinated attack on some petrol/chem plants..."

Petrol/chem plants are watched.

"...near a large population, not to blow them up, (as the noxious stuff would burn away and be lifted up into the air) but to simply release these toxins into a cloud of creeping death like that that happened in Bhopal India when the dow chem factory accident occured and killed several thousand. You coulddo this far cheaper than trying to build and sneak a nuke into a city...all youd need is a few guns to kill the guards quickly, a good respirator and rubber suit to keep you alive long enough to release enough toxins, and a couple of dozen fanatics to carry out the plan."

Why blow things up and make things more difficult by taking the chance of having to rely on successfully sneaking into a building and killing guards quickly when the same thing can be accomplished cheaper and easier by getting something like a hot air balloon, taking off in the middle of the night when the majority of the population is sleeping and unaware; filling up the sandbags or other containers with anthrax or some other chem/bio substance and just letting them loose on several cities, into our air to be breathed in and free to contaminate anything and everything, including structures, farms and our water. Something like that would fulfill all the criteria...you don't need an airport (which are watched), it's unlikely, unexpected, no landmarks are involved and could very well be more devasting.

(I should probably make an appointment for some psychiatric help and prozac for thinking like this....)

It is interesting though, that the Sahab logo on the bin Laden tapes has been on the left side and the Azzam tape it's on the right. Don't know what, if anything, that might mean. LOL

There's a documentary airing on the LINK network (cable) right now 21h00-22h00 EDST entitled "Nuclear Terrorism: Is America Safer?"

I've never liked coincidences, such as scheduling such a broadcast just before the pending US elections, all things considered.

sub6

PS - Heavy [not so] underlying message throughout the program is that the increased threat is Bush's fault, not his administration, but Bush personnally. Interesting.

In the tape, bin Laden’s first videotaped comments in three years, he lacks any of his usual trappings of warfare, including camouflage clothing, a dagger or a rifle, according to a U.S. officials familiar with the entire tape.

No ring either.

"Teri, thanks for this timeline, fascinating chronology!"

I think I mentioned this but I'm not sure so, just so everyone knows, it's not my work, I came across it on some Iraqi pipeline website and was asked to share :)

Mix-up with undercover American agent false alarm about suicide attack in Afghan capital

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A U.S. agent hidden under a head-to-toe veil on Sunday sparked fear of a suicide attack in the Afghan capital by fleeing from police who tried to search her, officials said.

Police had thought the woman, who was carrying a bag under her traditional Afghan burqa, was laden with explosives when she tried to enter the Bagh-e Zanana gardens, officials said.

But an official with the NATO-run security force that scrambled patrols to the area said it appeared the woman had panicked because her bag contained a pistol.

“It’s all been resolved amicably,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

A senior Afghan police officer said the woman had been brought to the Interior Ministry to discuss the mix-up. “It’s a big mess,” he said.

When confronted at the park, the woman apparently retreated to a four-wheel-drive vehicle parked nearby containing at least one foreign man, officials and witnesses said.

Reporters saw a column of vehicles carrying police and bearded Westerners in plainclothes speeding away from the scene in the direction of the ministry.

Police had sealed off the park, which has been restored with the help of foreign donations and is reserved for women.

as Sahab media is likely one or two people with a $3,000 computer. I'm not sure if it matters where the logo is. ;) I have 2 previous as Sahab videos and one has the logo in the lower left - the other has it in the center right.

The two videos (clips we have seen) released last week look like they were produced in the same way as the ones I have.

I watched that show on LINK last week. Parts of the show were quite interesting but then, as you point out, they slipped into the "it's Bush's fault" mantra.

LINK does have some interesting shows but, IMO, it is basically socialist TV.
