Israeli jet fighters have forced an incoming Lufthansa airliner to land in Cyprus after a bomb alert that German officials had not considered serious. "We wanted to fly to Tel Aviv but the Israeli authorities forced us to land in Larnaca," said a Lufthansa official.
The flight from Frankfurt landed safely and security staff are searching it.
Three passenger jets - two from Greece to New York and one British Airways flight from Berlin - have been diverted after bomb hoaxes in the last 10 days.
"We came to the conclusion with the German authorities that this alert was not serious," a spokeswoman told the AFP news agency.
The threat was transmitted by telephone call to the Lufthansa office in Frankfurt.
There were 331 passengers and 18 crew on board the Boeing 747-400 jet, the spokeswoman said.
Another brilliant world leader that Senator Kerry considers part of his future kitchen cabinet.
Well who would take their word for it? Pfft. Germans and French....
These months, FR is nothing else than a "SUPPORT BUSH"-site. Every topic, whether domestic or foreign is related to the Bush/Kerry race. Pretty boring, and even worse, not a very reasonable style of discussion. You can´t say anything which could be understood as an expression of criticism for Bush/Cheney. Sad. I hope, this gets better here after Nov. 2nd.
Hello-o? This is not about Kerry/Bush, this is about terror hoaxes! And this not only affects Germans or French, but also Americans and British, Israelis and Italians!
Excuse me, but there's an election goin' on. Step aside and enjoy the breeze.
ummm Mike, this is a conservative site. We are in the midst of a VERRRRRRRRYYY important election process....forgive our preoccupation with the future of our country..
Conservative doesn't mean critical thinking should be thrown out the window.... I guess for some it does.
So do you think the "Team Kerry" mosaic is out of place?
Two years is a long time to be a lib lurker, I'd think.
That means that every "hoax" or every warning must be taken as real until definitively proven it's not -- even if that slows traffic and disrupts economies for the next month. After that, we can readdress these things.
My suggestion to you is start thinking about the U.S. election as the only thing on the planet that matters. Your future depends on it.
I know, but what has this (LH bomb threat on its way to Tel Aviv) to do with Kerry, or with Pres. Bush? If y´all wanted to talk about the election, alright, I can wait. But don´t mix your negative feelings towards Kerry with other countries. Thanks and see you again on Nov. 3rd ;-)
Call me a lib or whatever, I don´t care what you say. Just distinguish between your national campaign and the foreign. This is not about Kerry or Bush, this is about foreign affairs which could affect the US.
Buh Bye............
While I agree with you that we have to take any hoax or funny comment about bombs on planes serious, I don´t think that the election of the US President is crucial for my life. It definitely has a deep influence on your life, but I´m pretty sure that the foreign policy will not change much. Both candidates don´t want to give Germany a veto on US security, so what advantages do we have? LOL
Seriously, Kerry and Bush will continue to fight terrorist structures where ever they occur and continue to believe in the North-Atlantic partnership. And finally, it is not my decision. All I can do is watch, and I promise you that I will do that.
HAHAHA ! Kitchen Cabinet.
LMAO!
And the French and Germans had better get on board. with us, or they'll all be speaking Arabic one day, and wearing a table cloth and a fan belt on their heads.
France and Germany don't pass the global anti-terrorism test.
And what´s YOUR problem??
Immigration.
My friend, we ARE on board, in case you haven´t noticed. What does it matter whether we have troops in Iraq or not? The main important facts are, that we´re cooperating on intelligence, military (not only in the Med Sea, the Horn of Africa or Afghanistan) and politically. Relations between us have improved a lot since the end of the Iraq main combat.
Ok, you´re right, I should me more precise. You can´t say anything which could be understood as an expression of criticism for Bush/Cheney which - at the same moment - could help JFnK.
