Democratic Presidential Candidate John Kerry may have violated the rules governing last Thursday's presidential debate.
According to Section 5 (pps 4 and 5) of the Memorandum of Understanding that was negotiated and agreed upon by both the Bush and Kerry campaigns:
(c) No props, notes, charts, diagrams, or other writings or other tangible things may be brought into the debate by either candidate. ...
(d) Notwithstanding subparagraph 5(c), the candidates may take notes during the debate on the size, color and type of paper each side prefers. Each candidate must submit to the staff of the Commission prior to the debate all such paper and any pens or pencils with which a candidate may wish to take notes during the debate, and the staff or commission will place such paper, pens and pencils on the podium, table or other structure to be used by the candidate in that debate.
On Sunday, INDC Journal and Daily Recycler produced a video and close-up stills showing that Senator Kerry apparently violated the rules signed by his campaign.
The video shows Kerry pulling what looks like crib notes from his jacket and placing them on his lectern at the start of the debate.

Use of crib notes during the debate would constitute a material breach of Memorandum of Understanding, though it is unclear if Kerry would be sanctioned.

People are missing the point here. It doesn't matter WHAT it was. If he took ANYTHING.....ANYTHING...out of his pocket, it is a violation of the rules. You could only use what they provided you, even when it came to pens.
Is that really true??! The NY Times??? Then there has to be 'evidence'. They wouldn't put this front page unless they found something.

Hmmm. No. A democrat is just someone who has turned off his frontal lobe and operates only from his limbic system. All he can do is feel. And because he is operating from reptile-brain, he does whatever it takes to get what he wants. Somewhat like my dog. A sociopath has no conscience or ability to see others as subjects, only as objects to be manipulated.

There does seem to be something that doesn't look like handwriting on Bush's paper. But the columns are too narrow. I think it's shadows from the mike and his hand. Also, look at the bar-like pattern on the left edge of the paper. It seems to stretch off the paper onto the yellow wood, wood that almost looks as white as the paper due to the studio lights and angles.
I think it's funny shadows. And Bush is not "smooth" like Kerry to pull off something like that!
How else was Kerry expected to remember the answers to the questions?
Bush "spoke from his heart"...just not very well.

Anyway, from people I've talked too, they thought Kerry "won", but caught on to how he didn't answer Lehrer's requests for "specifics."
That may be, but it's a silly purpose. I don't care whether a candidate can memorize numbers and stats. In real life, he'll be surrounded by advisors. Reagan was famous for delegating, and he did great.

Well, SATs test knowledge. The purpose of these presidential "debates" is not to "win" the debate, but to allow us to hear the candidate's policy positions, and perhaps discern their character, then compare them side-to-side.
These "debates" are so anal-retentive, so constricted and controlled, their purpose seems to be to hide the candidate, to prevent the candidate from making any slip-ups or allowing us to see the real person.
Is it clear that Kerry cheated? If so, I expect it will be all over talk radio and Fox News. I wonder if the undecideds and moderates will care?

From what I know of the venerated Jim Lehrer, it wouldn't surprise me to find out Kerry not only had crib notes, but that he had the questions before hand too!
