*HOUSTON SPCA RECEIVES HURRICANE VICTIMS EVACUATED FROM GRAND CAYMAN ISLAND *

The Houston SPCA sent representatives to meet a Cayman Airways Flight on Saturday, October 2, 2004. This was the first of several flights that will carry more than 200 innocent animal victims of Hurricane Ivan to safety at the Houston SPCA and Citizens for Animal Protection.

Patricia Mercer, Houston SPCA President, said, "Acceptance of the Cayman Island refugee animals is another example of how the Houston SPCA is dedicated to helping all animals in disasters. Receiving these 200 dogs and cats will bring the total we have saved from this year's hurricanes to almost 500. We were glad to answer the call for help, sending half of the food in our shelter down to feed the animals before their journey here.

Lemme get this staight. Spend multi thousands to bring cats and dogs to Houston for adoption, (prolly, ultimate euthanasia) while Hatians, Dominicans, and other human beings are wading around in shi* and dead bodies?

You can't make this up!

I think the Houston SPCA would get in trouble if they brought in Haitians for euthanasia.

Does it have to be an either/or?

I think it's wonderful that there are so many good causes people can sink their hearts into. I find that people who rescue critters as a calling never regret it. But if you don't find this cause worthy of your money, perhaps you'd like to donate instead to one of the Haiti hurricane relief funds. No one is stopping you.

I believe you are saying that we could save both beasts and humans? From what I see, human suffering off the hurricanes is ongoing. I say, deal with that first.

Spending all this money on animals, when humans are suffering is just wrong, wrong, wrong.

We all kick in our own way. What exactly did you expect the SPCA to do? Put Haitian people in cages and bring them over like dogs?

I'm wondering if our friend Don-O even knows what S.P.C.A. stands for.

I bet a dollar that 90% of the animals they fly in will be gassed in whatever the time limit is for holding them.

Total nonsense.

The SPCA is equipped and funded to deal with animals. You might fairly criticize other relief agencies for not helping the right people, but the SPCA is doing what it should do.

What I was saying was that people have different causes. I wouldn't expect say the RC ( but who knows :'( to divert funds to animals so why would I have a problem with an animal organization helping dogs?

If the Society For The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is that loaded with $$ as to fly 200 beasts into Houston, in light of humans needing a ride out of the shit they are wading in; well, words fail...

The SPCA deals strictly with animals. That is what they are funded for. They can't give the funds for other uses. They are doing exactly what they should...and many volunteers are also involved. I say God Bless them for their efforts.
