LA Times ^ | Oct. 2, 2004 | Matt Drudge

Posted on 10/02/2004 5:47:04 PM PDT by West Coast Conservative

LA TIMES POLL SUNDAY: Bush's favorability rating among debate viewers actually improved slightly (although within the survey's margin of error). Before debate, 51% of watchers viewed Bush favorably, 49% unfavorably; after, numbers were 52% and 47%...

I spoke to my friend Jamie yesterday who is a registered republican but planned on voting Kerry because she was just so disgusted with Iraq...(no not making it up). I expected to hear how great she thought Kerry was in the debates.

Total opposite. Her and her business partners all discussed that Kerry sucked and he lost all of their votes.

Funny...they are all residing in Los Angeles.

I think that statement will end up being the clip of the night. Thought so when he first said it.

Something else interesting. Kerry's debate glow has already been replaced by Mount St. Helen's.

Unless you have been completely isolated and have not paid ANY attention to world affairs for the last few years you could plainly see that all Kerry is is a BS artist

The problem is that you've just described the 'undecided' voter. They're the ones both sides were shooting for and their the ones dumb enough to get duped by F'n's snake oil.

But he was unable to translate that outrage into words often enough

That doesn't bother me at all. Maybe some people had expectations that Bush would blow Kerry away on Thursday and were disappointed when that didn't happen. I'm not going to make a judgement based on a ninety minute debate.

So now all the hype is that President Bush must do well on the next two debates or it's all over. The pressure is on. Will he be up to the task? He lost the debate that he was suppose to be the strongest on. He doesn't do as well in Town Hall style debates. OMG, all of a sudden Bush is in trouble.

Bull! It's all hype and it's all about one thing - RATINGS! If the American people elect John Kerry, who has not accomplished anything signifigant in his entire political life, based on three debates, then that's what the U.S. deserves and that's what the U.S. will get.

I don't think that is going to happen because I believe that a majority of Americans are smarter than that. Despite all the media hype. President Bush could stand up there and pick his nose for all I care. He's proven himself to be a leader and I'm not going to take a chance on a waffling, flip flopping grab bag at such a critical time.

Yeah, and maybe being on the left coast they know that if we don't have nukes and places like Iran and N. Korea do, it's their homes that will be in jeopardy.

I suspect a lot of people tuned out when it got repetitive -- 30 or 40 minutes in -- or fell asleep like I did during one of Kerry's answers.

After the details fade, I am left with the following impression of the debate:

Kerry: I am smarter than Bush, and a lot taller.
Bush: We have destroyed 75 percent of the people who planned 911.

Kerry: We don't have Bin Laden. Iraq is a pointless diversion.
Bush: Terrorism is the product of an ideology rather than the work of a single person or nation. We go wherever it flourishes.

Kerry: I can do everything better than you.
Bush: Doing is harder than talking.

I just absolutly did not understand all the rending of garments and wailing that was going here debate night.
I was so astonished I couldnt even post! well that and the forum was running at snail pace and I have DSL.
But I am glad the polls are showing that not all Americans are complete loons.
besides someone had posted an email terry the posioncullwicke sent out to all his flying monkeys the day of the debate that told how they could portray skerry the winner of the debate for pete sake.
and then you add in the media with thier complete lust for skerry and what did we all expect?
they were determined to have skerry win at all costs and thats what they did.
to no avail I say, most can see right through all that saran wrap. so cheer up all is well keep reaching for the prize!!!

I've been saying this all weekend. I doubt Kerry made a dent in the polls. He spoke like the pompous ass he is--without really saying much anybody really wanted to hear. Bush made sense--and was less aggressive--which worked well for women and independents. Conservatives who are clued-in were disappointed by his missed opportunities--but the average Joe Sixpack was satisfied by Bush's performance. It seemed resolute and honest. He therefore won the debate, i m o.

This looks very symbolic of the "position" Kerry will have the US take if he is elected President. BOHICA!

By the way, The Newsweek poll is worthless. I wouldn't lend it any credence whatsoever. Its history of tampering with results is too well known.

Per my impression, "self-proclaimed." Pretty apt for "the New JFK."

DRUDGE tease: RNC To Release Kerry Vs. Kerry Debate Video... Developing...

There may be a method to the madness. Bush voters support his stand in Iraq and will not change their vote to Kerry. Period, end of discusssion. For Bush to appeal to his current crop of voters is a waste of time. He owns them.

However, those voting for Kerry are doing it because they are against Bush. They are mostly against Bush because Bush is perceived as a war monger. Someone anxious to make war whenever he can. By providing an image of a hesistant and reflective man who speaks from his heart and not from his head, Bush is taking the battle for Kerry's voters to Kerry.

"OTOH, I know exactly what Bush said and where Bush stands on everything of importance..."

A basic idea in creative writing is: The way you write is your style, while communication is getting what you're thinking to the reader. There are many, many writers who can create amazing, lilting, stunning sentences...but not one of them has sold as many books as the sometimes extremely clunky Edgar Rice Burroughs, who will never be called a great stylist but whose books STILL sell almost a century after being written.

My friend was actually MAD at me the other night when I went on and on about how Bush destroyed Kerry, and Kerry made so many statements that would be used against him. My friend insisted I was wrong, that the pundits were praising Kerry. I said "Sure, because he talks like THEY do!"

Skipping Newsweek, look at the polls. Everyone admits Kerry won the debate (STYLE). But what did Bush communicate to these same large numbers of voters? Look at Bush's numbers on being CinC compared to Kerry.

I'm not saying Bush is some genius; I'm saying he's a very, very SMART man, and his ideas come across DESPITE his poor speaking skills (despite his STYLE).

No one will vote for Kerry because he talks like Jonathan Alter likes people to talk.
