LA TIMES POLL SUNDAY: Bush's favorability rating among debate viewers actually improved slightly (although within the survey's margin of error). Before debate, 51% of watchers viewed Bush favorably, 49% unfavorably; after, numbers were 52% and 47%...

Oh no, they forgot to coordinate with Newsweak.

By the morning their compatriots at the NYSlimes will be handing them their head for that goof.

Yep-what you said and ditto. I asked some friends who do not usually keep up on politics what they thought.

They thought Kerry was hateful and attack attack attack and they did not like it. When I told them about his inaccuracies they liked it even less.

that's what I thought the strategery was while people were panicking: They knew kerry was going to attack (because he had to) so they let him. They let bush go negative while absorbing the blows, making bush look sympathetic and kerry look mean, which drives up bush's numbers and should keep kerry from changing his positives.

The people wanting to see blood in the water were already going to vote for bush.

Do you have the internals of the Newsweek poll. I can't seem to find then.

No, other than the limited information in this article:

I look forward to Bush being virtually devastated in the next two debates, thereby driving his positives through the roof!!

I find it hard to believe they ran a poll like this and didn't ask "who are you going to vote for?"

I wonder why those numbers weren't part of the story?

I enjoyed watching W's facial expressions. They revealed his sense of outrage over the things Kerry has been saying...

But he was unable to translate that outrage into words often enough.

Reassuring proof that there aren't as many Kool-aid drinking idiots in the country as the MSM and the RATs would like to think.

Unfortunately, polls don't take into account the illegal votes that we'll see on Nov. 2.

Bush has never been a verbal "terminator" to political opponents. He was even respectful toward the vile Clintons. He is far more of a gentleman than a lot of us would be in his position. Anybody who maintains a respectful attitude when being slammed is going to gain the respect of undecideds.

When I got on Free Republic after watching the debate and feeling wonderful about how W did, I could not believe the naysaying and I am so happy to see that everyone is regaining their confidence.

I still think he won. I do not have television (I did not watch it at home) and only watched it from the perspective of someone who never sees pretty television people with coiffed hair who always have the eloquent style. I watched it from the point of view of someone who only sees everyday people living their lives.

Bush was real and Kerry was an elitist trying to straddle his audience. The president looked like he wanted to kick his ass and every person who has no admiration or envy for phony elitism and star quality was most likely hoping he would, myself included. I think that more people think Bush actually won. The polls are specifically insinuating that style counts, and that is why Kerry is up, but when you dig into the internals, you see that people actually believe that Bush said what they wanted to hear and Kerry did not.

Actually, I like what they did. The people used in this poll were people who they had contacted in their previous poll (Bush 51, Kerry 46) who agreed to be called back after the debate. Of this group, some 700 people or so, give or take, actually watched the debate. Prior to the debate, this group of 700 was for Kerry 48-47 (slightly more pro-Kerry than the overall sample); after the debate, they were for Kerry 49-47. ABC and CBS did something similar as well. The idea is to see if there is any shift in attitudes in a sample where the pre-debate attitudes are already known. The answer seems to be no.

I noted one of the gloom and doomers on another debate thread today...There were some newbies and some oldies stinkin up the thread on debate night...I agree with you...and the sound bites of the debates accentuate Bush's strengths and Kerry's absurd and dangerous positions...Yes, Bush seemed tired..gave a great closing ,though..
