John Kerrys lead among younger voters has vanished as they become increasingly inclined to see the country as headed in the right direction, according to the first GENEXT poll conducted since the Republican National Convention in late August.
If the election were held today, the two main candidates would be neck-and-neck among under-30 voters, with 45 percent of them voting for Kerry and 44 percent for President George W. Bush. Independent candidate Ralph Nader draws 6 percent of the youth vote. Last month Kerry had the support of 50 percent of young voters, Bush had 41 percent. (In the most recent NEWSWEEK poll of all registered voters, taken between Sept. 9 and 10, Bush led Kerry with 49 percent of the vote versus the challenger's 43 percent.)
The increased support for Bush is also reflected in the narrowing spread between younger voters who believe the country is headed along the right track or in the wrong direction. Last month, 54 percent of those polled felt the country was headed in the wrong direction, compared to 42 percent who saw it as being on the right track. In the new poll, nearly as many people felt it was on the right track (47 percent) as felt it was heading in the wrong direction (51 percent).

Well...more embarrassment to my generation.
Wow, like, woah, man. No way, dude. Like, where's my stuff.
28 year old Bush voter checking in. Previously, I was a 24 year old Bush voter and 20 year old Harry Browne supporter.
why? A one point deficit among young people is actually an improvement over past years.
Just think what could be done if he had one of the mainstream media outlets on our side.
Huh. It's almost as if they figured out that Michael Moore is full of crap.
It's good to see the Democratic fear tactics (like the bogus draft issue) are backfiring.
I always said that the kids in this age group had good BS detectors -- it comes from their education!
A good shift, but for how long? If Kerry continues his draft rhetoric, those numbers may change yet again, why the Bush campaign hasn't vigorously put the draft issue to rest is a mystery are tey waiting for the debate to expose the democrats who pushed for the legislation. I know there was a rebuttal to the draft charge by Kerry, but it was too weak IMO.
You've got a point.
I just know it was my influence on you that allowed you to see the light!....heh, heh
My three boys will be voting for Bush. The oldest is 26.
Of course they know that dad is a firm believer is Bill Cosby famous saying... We brought you into this world...
Long time reader, first time poster... voting in my first election at the age of 18 for Bush.
My campus is split between Kerry/Bush... you can tell who's voting for who because all the dicks at may college threaten me for going against Kerry. On the day where people selected clubs the College Dems taunted and used profanity towards the College Republicans. Those liberals learn how to be a-holes early.
My daughters also are voting for Bush. I indoctrinated them from the time they were young. They were little tots, and they could recite from memory that Dems take your money and give it to other people.
Actually this is an improvement.
The young vote tends to be extremely liberal.

I guess this explains the phony charges that Bush intends to bring back the draft in a second term. Dems are simply desperate that they are losing another demographic that has historically been friendly to them.
How many voters at your house? :')
