BUSH

After straining relations with major European allies and the United Nations over war in Iraq, Bush has shifted his foreign policy focus to the spread of democracy by pushing a Greater Middle East Initiative that would aim to resolve the region’s political, economic and social problems through democratic reform. The president, criticized for the failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, is also pursuing a policy that seeks to unravel the black market in nuclear components and block programs in North Korea and Iran, countries he has labeled an “axis of evil” along with prewar Iraq.

KERRY

While insisting he would never cede U.S. security to any other nation and would use force when required, Kerry envisions “a new era of alliances” to replace what he sees as the White House’s go-it-alone approach to foreign policy. He has pledged to restore diplomacy as a tool of U.S. foreign policy, treat the United Nations as a “full partner” and pursue collective security arrangements. His inner circle of foreign policy advisers features prominent Democratic veterans, including some figures from the Clinton days.

Click on this link to see who you are most likely to agree with on major issues. This MSNBC info is for people who are just starting to pay attention to the election. I think it's slanted to Kerry and a harsh on Bush, but that's just me. I was impressed that MSN was able to make sense of all Kerry's positions on the issues. What do you guys think out there in Freeperland?

It is obvious that both perspectives on each candidate position was written by a Democrat. I'll give them credit for holding back on the Bush-hating rhetoric. But a balanced guide????? Give me a break.

MSNBC strikes me as an org that, if it wanted to take a truly unbiased look at its news practices, would convene a blue-ribbon panel. Both Dems and Republicans would be represented, as well as some netral reps.

On one side: Terry McAuliffe, Susan Estrich, and James Carville. On the other side: Jim Jeffords and Colin Powell. And representing a neutral position, that elder statesman, Jimmy Carter.

Problem with MSNBC is they start with the premises put out by the Kerry camp and Never question them. Straining "Major US European Alliances" Where have the French or Germans backed up a US Foreign policy initiative in the last 10 years? Did not back us in Bosnia or Kosovo. Did not back us In Somalia. Undercut us with Iraq via their willing assitace to the Oil for Food scandal. The idea that Germany or France is an "Ally" of the US is NOT supported by any demonstrable facts.

If the French and German "allies" were wildly enthusiastic about helping us in Iraq--what could they do about it, anyway? They don't have the resources, the troop strength, the weaponry.

It'd be great to have their moral support, but that's about all they could give...under the best of circumstances.

Kerry keeps talking about the allies as if they would actually be in a position to offer substantial help.

This seems pretty obvious to me...but I've yet to hear it articulated from any place.

"Support of our allies" is a chimera.

MSNBC believes 'Scarborough Country' "balances" the other 23 hours of airing DNC 527-type programing.

My fair and balanced evaluation of their guide:

BUSH

After straining relations with major European allies and the United Nations over war in Iraq (France and Germany spin, ignores England and Spain), Bush has shifted his foreign policy focus to the spread of democracy (shifted?? that is what the war of Iraq was about) by pushing a Greater Middle East Initiative that would aim to resolve the region’s political, economic and social problems through democratic reform. The president, criticized for the failure to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq (more negative spin that says nothing about his policy), is also pursuing a policy that seeks to unravel the black market in nuclear components and block programs in North Korea and Iran, countries he has labeled an “axis of evil” along with prewar Iraq. (This discussion on foreign policy does not even mention the War on Terrorism.)

KERRY

While insisting he would never cede U.S. security (if you must ask you are ceding) to any other nation and would use force when required, Kerry envisions “a new era of alliances” to replace what he sees as the White House’s go-it-alone approach (30 + countries?) to foreign policy. He has pledged to restore diplomacy as a tool of U.S. foreign policy, treat the United Nations as a “full partner” (cedes power like he says he would never do) and pursue collective security arrangements. His inner circle of foreign policy advisers features prominent Democratic veterans, including some figures from the Clinton days. (as opposed to Republican veterns who actually have had success)

kerry has openly admitted to treason! Why is nothing done? kerry has openly admitted to war crimes! Why has nothing been done? I guess I would have to charge the news media with treason also.

PMSNBC has gone through more changes than a room full of menopausal women. The more they try to look fair, the more apparent it is that they are not. I was hoping the cameras would be kept running after Matthews' interview with Chappaquiddick Fats so that the osculation of Ted's fat posterior would be forever committed to videotape.
