The U.S. has no plans to deploy troops along the Mexican border to stanch the deluge of illegal aliens currently pouring into the country at the rate of 3 million per year, President Bush said in an interview broadcast on Monday.
"As the governor of Texas, I was very aware of this issue," Bush told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly.

"There is a long border, that makes it hard to control. We have beefed up places along the border to try to stop" the flow, he said. When told that his policy didn't seem to be working, Bush insisted, "Its working a little better.
"They're doing a pretty good job down in Arizona, which is the main border crossing. ... I think there's a thousand more border patrol agents along the border. Were modernizing border techniques, were using better surveillance methods to stop this crossing at the border."
The president contended, however, that illegal immigration was driven primarily by the economic realities of the region.
"If you can make 50 cents in the interior of Mexico and five bucks in the interior of the United States, you're coming for the five bucks," he explained.
"I happen to believe the best way to enhance the border is to have temporary-worker cards available for people," he said. "I think the long-term solution for this issue on our border is for Mexico to grow a middle class. That's why I believe in NAFTA."
When warned that "a lot of people are not going to like that answer," Bush told O'Reilly, "Well its a, a truthful answer."
This is just the thing we conservatives have been trying to avoid. We try to solve one problem but end up not only creating another, but giving away another huge slice of our fundamental constitutional freedoms:
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Well, they say there are entire villages lying empty in Mexico. Okay, let's pretend we're Germany or France and millions of the other country's citizens swarm over the border lookign for work and a better life. What would they do? Send them home? Europe is talking to Israel about expert help in building a wall to keep out poor Eastern Europeans...Latvians? We need a solution to this problem, and other than invading Mexico again and fixing the joint, what are our options? They are invading us. And if that isn't enough, we're worried that terrorists are infiltrating, too.
Ha! Now if we can just get a warm body to envelope those ideas and effectively articulate their importance to Americans.
And it's the folks not on the ground that make the official reports the government uses to determine funding, and the press releases that make the headlines. I'm sure the guys on the ground have an excellent understanding of how effective they're being, but privates don't write press releases. Officially, according to the reports, you only catch 10%, whether you catch 2 or 2 million doesn't matter, the official estimate are that the number of guys you catch is 10% of total attempted illegal crossings.
I belive there is a whole lot of misinformation being thrown around by alarmists who probably don't know a whole lot about what they are talking about. It spreads like wild fire on the internet and is soon accepted as common truth.
The absolute screaming horror!
Please give a few examples of long-term successful and peaceful bilingual and bicultural societes.
If you agree with W, then you are after an amnesty in all but name. So just get your house keys out for the next illegal who comes along. And, if you had read my EARLIER posts, you'd probably still have taken your cheap shot. For the record, whoever comes here THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR AND ABIDES BY THE RULES FOR ADMITTANCE is welcome, NO MATTER WHERE they are from (perhaps excepting Mooselimbs from Middle Eastern countries). The ILLEGALS have to be stopped first, found if they get away from the border, then expelled. How hard is that to follow? You must be another Liberal/Globalist who got bit by a freedom loving REAL American.
Yeah, I know. "They" say a lot.
"Exactly WHAT pressure can you apply to a lame duck president who has an agenda incompatible with his oath to the Constitution?"
EXCUSE ME???
Just because Bush is wrong on one subject doesn't mean he's wrong on everything. Nobody's perfect.
The way to pressure him is through Congressional representatives and local officials. The way to stop this is to insist that local governments end the charade of providing pick up sites for foreign illegal laborers, of making sure local governments enforce zoning ordinances to prevent multiple families of illegals from taking over entire towns with deteriorating housing stock, of insisting that local law enforcement agencies be permitted to cooperate with INS, by insisting that INS do its job, by telling Bush he's wrong on this subject and we - the citizens - DEMAND an end to this prevarication and the employment of whatever military or civil police force on our borders which will do the job. OUR APATHY and OUR silence has allowed this to happen.
His analogy about comparative pay rates sort of makes sense - so does the idea that if you earn only $50,000 per year, you can make more money by stealing somebody else's - which is why we pay him, our congressmen and our law-enforcement people a salary - to prevent that from happening.
By doing what the people who founded this Country did - standing up, organizing, demonstrating, and funding people like Tancredo who have the guts to speak out against this army of invaders and this insane policy.
Politicians are like dogs - they must be psychologically intimidated - through the ballot box, through demonstrations, through letter-writing campaigns, through offers of financial support, or withdrawal of financial support.
Like lab rats, they CAN be trained.
Of course. LOL
Hell, I'll go one better: a tricultural and trilingual society.

I am totally opposed to using your SS number as an ID number. In fact, I'm totally opposed to the SS system and am in favor of dumping it along with the income tax and the IRS. No way would I advocate using it as a tool to catch illegal immigrants.
He let the AWB die. I have a promise to keep. I'll vote for him as long as no other gun control measures make it past his desk between now and November.
That does not mean I have to sit hear with my mouth shut either. A BAD idea is a bad idea no matter who is thinking it. Leaving your borders open while fighting a war against terrorists is just plain STUPID.
Let 'em go through the extra step of having to go through Cuba. Maybe Castro can help us out by shooting a few for us.
One of the things the Riders Of The Illegal Immigration Hobbyhorse would like to do away with in their fantasy America is the presumption of innocence.
Your appeasement will only help speed the downfall of the Republic.
They said the same thing about letting in all those Italians and Irish back in the 19th century...
Bush may be presiding over the last days of America as we know it...
Hysterics are not becoming.
The so-called "solutions" being offered by the Riders etc. etc. range from cold-blooded murder to rapine of businesses. It's not what America is or should be.
Comparisons to Israel are not valid. Since 1993 we've had three, count them three mideast terrorist attacks. They've had how many? And one will have to pro-rate the number of attacks by population and border length.
I live right here in San Diego Jim, and I see it on a daily basis. It's not "misinformation."
If we don't get a handle on this after the election, the Republican Party is going to split in half on this issue. I will work for Tancredo, Rorhbacker and others like them. If the "country club" Rockefeller WSJ Republicans are too addicted to cheap illegal alien labor to come over to my side, then screw them, they're not my party.
Once upon a time the Serbs in the Serbian province of Kosovo thought that open borders were just peachy. Cheap servants and laborers! Wonderful! Let them in with a wink.
Look where that got them.
The American Southwest is going to be Kosovo X 1,000, mark my words, if we don't get a handle on this problem.
A bit like being caught in bed with your neighbors wife, looking up and saying, "Dang, is this yours?"
If I'm on the same side as George W. Bush, Jim Robinson, and, well, most normal people, I think I'm in pretty good company.
It's easy to talk big when you know you'll never be called to actually do something.
Oh yes, America is JUST like Switzerland. Try a real country, not a tiny maker of cuckoo clocks sitting on vaults of unreported gold.
