Bush: Militarizing Border Won't Stop Illegal Deluge

The U.S. has no plans to deploy troops along the Mexican border to stanch the deluge of illegal aliens currently pouring into the country at the rate of 3 million per year, President Bush said in an interview broadcast on Monday.

"As the governor of Texas, I was very aware of this issue," Bush told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly.

Story Continues Below

"There is a long border, that makes it hard to control. We have beefed up places along the border to try to stop" the flow, he said. When told that his policy didn't seem to be working, Bush insisted, "It’s working a little better.

"They're doing a pretty good job down in Arizona, which is the main border crossing. ... I think there's a thousand more border patrol agents along the border. We’re modernizing border techniques, we’re using better surveillance methods to stop this crossing at the border."

The president contended, however, that illegal immigration was driven primarily by the economic realities of the region.

"If you can make 50 cents in the interior of Mexico and five bucks in the interior of the United States, you're coming for the five bucks," he explained.

"I happen to believe the best way to enhance the border is to have temporary-worker cards available for people," he said. "I think the long-term solution for this issue on our border is for Mexico to grow a middle class. That's why I believe in NAFTA."

When warned that "a lot of people are not going to like that answer," Bush told O'Reilly, "Well it’s a, a truthful answer."

We have to work hard to get Bush elected President.

Despite HIS rhetoric on this subject, the Democrat alternative is far worse.

Once he IS relected, it will be time to turn up the political screws on this distorted perspective of his, which smacks of one worldism.

And the tools for turning those political screws begin with Tancredo of Colorado and our local elected officials and federal representatives who should be forced to demand that Bush re-assess this idiotic tolerance of invaders who are altering the ethnic and cultural face of America and converting it into a third world bananna republic.

I have no problem with legal, controlled immigration, and the actual numbers of new immigrants allowed in here are for those far wiser than I to determine.

But I am choked with rage at the apparent blase attitude of this administration, and the Democrat and Republican representatives in Washington who seem to feel it is quite alright to GIVE AWAY MY COUNTRY without my consent to foreign invaders.

Its intolerable and must be stopped.

You're right! After the election is behind us, we need a massive push to close the borders. If it means the demise of the two parties as we know them, so be it. This issue is that important. The future of our country is at stake.

Let's be reasonable. No, of course I do not want any terrorists here at all. That's why I'm in favor of snuffing them out over there. Destroy them in their nests and destroy their ability to organize, train, fund, etc.

I started out against the president on this, but as time has moved along I've warmed up to it. There is no easy answer here, whether its building a wall and digging a moat or letting them all in unhindered. I'm willing to see if the President is right about this, and willing to wait a few years for the data to accumulate.

Exactly WHAT pressure can you apply to a lame duck president who has an agenda incompatible with his oath to the Constitution? Please be specific.

All the mexicans who can follow the rules and go through the process are welcome. That is not the issue.

Meanwhile, we are being invaded by criminals, and the government, so willing to overstep their authority on every other matter, does nothing at all in regard to one of their very few, legitimate duties, securing the borders.

Yeah, W's a globalist...you have been keeping up with events for the last, oh, 4 years haven't you? *bangs head on wall*

The fact is there is little that can be done when the most powerful, richest, freest nation in the world lives next to a has-been/never-been kleptocracy. We can't keep them out without killing them, and we ain't killing them, despite what some folks want. That isn't American, it isn't even rational. It most certainly isn't Christian.

The best thing we can do is stop what we can short of going into "iron curtain" mode and exert pressure to bring Mexico up to par with at least Mississippi. That's all the President reasonably be expected to do.

Well, I am in favor of the government restricting the flow of illegals and one way is to end the attraction of felon employers.

I believe our government should set a date for all employers to verify the status of their employees and after that date, those still intent to commit felonies should be fined to the brink of bankruptcy. After that date, the government should allow enforcement of our immigration code to the letter.

Gov't programs that pay abled bodied people to not work should cease or be phased out totally.

It should become mandatory that only a parent or legal guardian who is a citizen and has contributed to the Social Security trust fund for a minimum of twenty consecutive quarters may apply for taxpayer-funded benefits or services on behalf of minors.

I am in favor of a scannable social security card system that could reduce fraud, linking card ID's to state DMV licenses and voter registrations.

I'm also in favor of removing immunities for organizations such as LaRaza which knowingly aid and abet illegal and fraudulant activity and in favor of aggressively seeking their demise should they insist on continuing.

Lastly, I'm in favor of establishing a reimbursement system whereby monitary exchanges with countries whose illegal citizens "borrow" our taxpayer funded services are assessed and invoices levied according to the percentages of illegals apprehended.

Yes. And I browbeat and badgered every one I knew to vote for him too.

Won't bother this time.

Besides the fact that they are beefing up the border patrol.

Some freepers are just plain irrational on this topic and immune to facts. They are obsessed with seeing Mexican looking faces and hearing Spanish (the horror!) and that's all they focus on.

Then, by your "logic," we must simply let them in, let them vote and let them have this country with no fight and no struggle whatsoever. Just hand over the keys to your house to whatever illegal comes by and demands it. Nice thinking.

Everywhere that I have ever worked, I have had to show proof of ability to work. I believe the form is an I-9. You must provide things such as a valid picture ID (drivers license, passport), social security card, or some combination of several other items. If you were not born here, you need to show proof of naturalization.

I-9 infor.

I know.

But I believe it's reasonable to understand that al-Qaeda, Hamas and the rest of Death Cult of Terror, Inc. is recruiting in the Latin Americas, America itself, as well thousands of OTMs of M.E. origin are illegally coming into America.

Accounts are documented of dozens of Islamists being caught coming across the border at a time. BP agents are being told to be quiet. We know what the desperate Islamists do before elections in target nations.

I believe with Madrid in our rear view mirror, we are in need of desperate measures to spare innocent American life on American soil.

I would secure the borders and ports effectively, not with lip service, and take a head count in the Muhammadan American community.

As of yet, threats remain unattended to and I'm wondering what we're going to hear when another attack happens yet again...

How are employers going to know if a worker is legal or illegal?

On line database of SS numbers. Give employers 3 days to validate the work applicant's SS number. He can employ the fellow during the 3 days if he wants but if his SS number is phony he must be fired.

For businesses that don't want to go on line, they can validate over the phone with a private company which will contact the SS number database.

No jobs and 70% of illegal aliens will self deport.

The only folks using 90% as an estimate are folks not on the ground, like The Center for Immigration Studies and the Federation for Immigration Reform.

Ask those of us that do the catching and you'll get varied estimates based on what they have seen in person.

I generally use 33% ratio and yes it's an estimate, because that's all you can do.

Some days we catch 10% and some days we catch 90%, but on the average I'd bet my career we don't catch more then a third, on the average. We just don't have the man power.

Have 3 million gotten by us this year? It’s entirely possible. I’d bet it’s lower, probably more like 2 million or just under.

"Punitive fines are the same as seizing assets. Money is an asset. I'm not in favor of tasking our employers with enforcing immigration laws. Business is already overregulated and overburdened as it is.

I'm for shutting them down if they're intent to intentionally break federal law. Same for the 10 ton a year coke dealer. Illegal is illegal. Ill gotten gain is still just that.

Pal, you're so right on target it's not even funny. This info should be the basis for the immigration platform for the new third party.

When did I say that?

I said I agree with W, and people who think we need to make a Berlin Wall next to Mexico aren't being realistic.

That's all I said.

What's your problem, did a Mexican bite you when you were a kid or something? :D

J/k
