Ok, you are in favor of a computerized federal ID system. You realize, of course, that this will not only apply to illegal immigrants? I mean you have to have the federal ID card to prove you are not here illegally. From the date this program is implemented, all workers will be required to apply for a federal ID card and all employers will be required to scan these cards on some frequent basis and report any suspicious persons to the appropriate federal authorities for enforcement.

This is just the thing we conservatives have been trying to avoid. We try to solve one problem but end up not only creating another, but giving away another huge slice of our fundamental constitutional freedoms:

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Jim,

If I subject the duty of my care upon the state, then, IMO, it is not an unreasonable request of those people who provide finances for that state in the form of taxes that I be clearly identified as eligible to receive those services.

Whether we like it or not, whether intentional or not, the SSI card already has become a form of ID. Why should we continue allowing such an important document to be counterfeited with such ease? We can easily close that gap with an estimated $10/card.

Oh yeah, when a third of my income goes to support a government eager to give benefits to any and everyone on the face of earth, constitutional freedom has already been abridged because I have no say in WHO gets what. To sacrifice a little piece now so we'll be better abled to say who gets what is nothing compared to the price coming due if we allow the status quo to continue....
