Kerry Pulls Campaign Ads From Four States

WASHINGTON - Bowing to political realities, Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) has canceled plans to begin broadcasting television commercials in Arizona, Arkansas, Louisiana and the perennial battleground of Missouri.

The decision to shrink his political playing field reduces Kerry's strategic options — at least for now — in the homestretch of the campaign. George W. Bush won all four states in 2000, and Kerry can't win the White House without taking one or two of them away from the Republican incumbent.

The ads were scheduled to begin airing Oct. 5 as part of a $5 million investment through Nov. 2, but campaign advisers concluded Kerry isn't doing well enough in the states to justify the cost.

I think we'll be reading that by the FIRST week of October. By the end of October, he'll be withdrawing ads from Massachusetts, California, and Vermont.

If I'm ready this correctly, Kerry is admitting that he can't win. So he is pulling ads in these 4 states to keep from a total rout!

Unfortunately, (for Kerry) those are four states that Gore won, and only WI was close. Kerry (Ha!) would need to win at least one of the following battleground states to have any chance of winning:

Arkansas, Louisiana, Arizona, Missouri, Florida, Ohio, Colorado, West Virginia.

He just wrote off his chances in four of those because he trails, and he trails in the other four. In the meantime, Wisconsin and New Mexico, razor thin wins in 2000 for Dems, have now slipped into the Bush column, while Maryland, New Jersey, Oregon, Washington, Pennsylvania and Minnesota, all comfortable 2000 Dem wins, are now up for grabs, with Bush actually leading in Pennsylvania.

This is NOT a strategy to win, this is a strategy to save the money for an advertising blitz AFTER the Witch steps in.

Neither candidate is campaigning in MD. But the GOP had Michael Steele (the GOP Lt. Gov.) speak at the convention. He is popular with the Black Dems. in one of the only 3 Dem. areas in the state.
Both candidates assumed that MD would be solidly Dem. I'm not so sure.

Of course, without campaigning, it's likely that most people will vote their party line.

Checkout this article from William Bennett:

Morning in America

John Kerry's flip on the war in record breaking time
On Sep. 6, in Pennsylvania, John Kerry said the Iraq war was "THE WRONG WAR IN THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME."
On September 7, in Ohio, John Kerry said: "MORE THAN 1,000 OF AMERICA'S SONS AND DAUGHTERS HAVE NOW GIVEN THEIR LIVES ON BEHALF OF THEIR COUNTRY, ON BEHALF OF FREEDOM, IN THE WAR ON TERROR." Question: How can fighting on the behalf of our country, on behalf of freedom, in the war on terror be fighting in the wrong war in the wrong place at the wrong time?
