Washington, DC--Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie issued the following statement on CBSs admission today that memos regarding the Presidents National Guard service are not real.
We accept CBS's apology for a breach of the journalistic standards that provide the American people confidence in news organizations, but some disturbing questions remain unanswered.
CBS has now answered questions about the authenticity of the documents but questions remain surrounding who created the documents, who provided them to CBS and if Senator Kerry's supporters, Party committee, or campaign played any role.
Did Bill Burkett, Democrat activist and Kerry campaign supporter, who passed information to the DNC, work with Kerry campaign surrogate Max Cleland? Did Bill Burkett's talks with senior Kerry campaign officials include discussions of the now discredited documents? Was the launch of the Democrat National Committee's Operation Fortunate Son designed with knowledge of the faked forged memos? Terry McAuliffe said yesterday that no one at the DNC or Kerry campaign, had anything to do with the preparations of the documents, but what about the distribution or dissemination?
In an effort to regain the trust of the American people CBS should not only investigate the process that led to the use of these documents but they should identify immediately those engaged in possible criminal activity who attempted to use a news organization to affect the outcome of a Presidential election in its closing days.
Glad to see you have your eyes wide open.
The RNC Chairman raises some important questions. I'm sure Dan Rather will get right on it, and conduct a thorough, tenacious and independent investigation into the truth.
How can McAuliffe know this? How can he assert a nullity with such confidence? It can only be because he knows who did this.
Dang. I am listening to McClelland now, and exactly the right (and very relevant) questions are being asked.
"VERY serious questions have been raised and need to be answered."
I wonder when we can expect some answers to these very serious questions.
I called CBS News at 212-975-3691 and asked "Why Dan Rather's statement did not include an apology to the American People and the President"
Answer: "I don't believe the President wants an apology"
CLICK !
Yep.
About the time pigs fly, and the Easter Bunny iceskates in Hades...
Dang, this is good stuff.
Wonderful. The RNC dawg does hunt!
Completely fabricated, like most CBS stories.
CBS ought to die a slow painful death.
Wow - is there a category for Most Arrogant News Network in Recorded History in the Guinness Book of World Records?
There's the $60,000 question.
I would NOT have accepted that non-apology. Nobody at CBS apologized to the target of the attack perpetrated willingly or unwillingly by CBS, President Bush. I point out again that CBS had the time, money and manpower to vet those documents before airing them. Then there's the apparant coodination with the Fortunate Son attack. Cleland admits referring Burkette to the Kerry Kampaign and Burkette admits calling the Kerry campaign. Non of this adds up, including the apology.
Pray for W and Our Troops
Pssttt! The sound of another can of "whupazz" being opened up on the DemoRats.
Rather's arrogance will elect Bush.
I smell Martin Frost' hateful handiwork here, and he is still pi$$ed off about the redistricting battle he lost to Tom Delay. He will be out of a job soon and he might think this will win him a juicy appointment in a Kerry(shudder) administration.
Why Glenn Smith you ask:
1. He is the point man for the Kerry campaign 527s on the issue of Bush's National Guard service. It was his responsibility to get something like these memos out into the news stream. He had to be in the loop somwhere.
2. Glenn Smith had plausible credibility as an original source. He was a political operative of Gov. Ann Richards when Bush ran against her. It was his job then to dig up dirt on Bush. Since he worked for the Gov it would have been no problem for him to slither on down to the National Guard and look through their records for anything that could be used against Bush. In fact he would be derelict if he hadn't. And he was the original person who made it an issue. Producer Mapes would have spent much time with him the last four years.
3. Glenn Smith could plausibly convince Burkett that he, Glenn Smith, couldn't be the one that passed on the memos because that would link the 527s (and Soros) to the Kerry Campaign.
4. Glenn Smith, a personal friend of Dan Rather's daughter, campaign manager of last Democrat Tex Governor candidate, former Houston Chronicle reporter etc... was "unimpeachable" in Dan Rather's eyes.
5. Glenn Smith is someone that CBS would have to protect because the disclosure of his identity and connections with the Kerry campaign, MoveOn, and Rathers would bring down the whole house of cads. (no sp)
Wow, the RNC is growing a spine. Turn up the heat and don't stop asking!
A number of us that have been studying this think that the story line was actually, "Bush was run out of the Texas ANG because of drug abuse, and that he missed the physical to escape a drug test".
There are hints to this, for example Kitty Kelly planting the idea Laura sold drugs in college. Also, the false time line that moves up the requirement for the physical to before he asked to leave, as well as the "order" to get the physical. Normally, you don't need to be ordered to take a physical, it is just scheduled on your birthday.
I think they were going to drag out more "evidence" has time went on.
Remember...billyjeff redefined the word. It was just about the same time he defined the meaning of 'is'. We've finally caught on that MSM is the only true arbiter of words.
