Other Times CBS has been "Misled".....let's start the LIST:
1. Clinton and his peccadillo's (sp)
2. Hillary and the VAST Right Wing Conspiracy
3. Republican's are going to starve old people and kids
4. Saddam telling Rather he was a good guy
5. Oil for Food program
6. Gore's Iced Tea Story
7. ???? and ON and ON and ON....
LOL!
Yes sir, Ole Danny boy was Eyeball deep in that Fraud also.
Neither he nor his Producer at the time ever retracted a thing. Even after ABC did a Dateline Investigation that garnered an Award for their investigation into the fraud.
Basic comment from CBS was paraphrasing, 'our viewers liked it. Regardless that is was all bogus.'
Thanks for the info! My mistake.
Perhaps the one in which illegal fund raising, er, no controlling legal authority fund raising was going on in
VP Gore's office, but he drank so much iced tea, that it must have happened during the many times he out of the office,
emptying his bladder of iced tea.
I think his daughter hosted that one. (Which gives him an excuse.) Worse is during the Wen Ho Lee spy scandal he poo-pooed the whole thing by basically saying there was nothing to worry about because China only had 5 nukes. Always wanted to ask Dan which 5 cities did he not care about to the point they could be nuked. Ratherbiased.com has a whole list on Dan Rather.
What really bugs me about "The Wall Within" is that it is part of video series CBS put out that is used in school classrooms throughout the USA. Would love to know how to put enough pressure on CBS--and the schools--to get that episode nixed from the series.
I agree that it should be pulled from use but perhaps it does have a good use. By accompanying it with the ABC expose of it, the students could see for themselves just how deceitful the 'objective' press can be.
There is a long list of liars' books that have been on 60 minutes over the last 6 months.
High Power electric wires casuses cancer.
Child abuse is everywehre in day care centers.
Gen. William Westmoreland... the libel settlement that cost CBS their libel insurance.
"Which network rigged Ford vehicles to explode?"
"That was NBC's Dateline and it was GM trucks that they rigged."
The Ford fiasco was related to the tires and roll-over. Anyone who drives an SUV of any type can get the same whip-over if they allow the tires on the right side to become under inflated. On a left turn, the underinflated tires cause a compound whip action and voila, yer hanging from your seatbelt with the truck on its right side.......actually wrong side as the four rubber thingies are supposed to be down.

I don't recall that story. Do you know which network did it and when was it reported?
Then you can move on to The Uncounted Enemy where Mike Wallace and his producers lost so much money settling Gen Westmoreland's lible suit (no one knows how much -- it was settled out of court with the figures held secret) that CBS actually had their liability insurance cancled.
Then you can go to The Wall Within where Dan Rather interviewed 5 pretend Vietnam Vets who made up atrocity stories to paint an entire generation of Veterns as crazy, drunk, druggies due to their service in Vietnam. None of the stories in that report were true, and Rather & Co. should have known (probably did know) they were being lied to. After they were exposed, they simply refused to apologize. That was before the Internet.
This is just off the top of my head, but CBS has been playing these games for many many years. It's high that rouge propaganda machine is run totally out of the news business.
Bob,
The main gist of the lawsuits apeared to focus on firestone as mounted on Ford explorers in '99, and '00. I am still looking for network specific reporting but the links below provide some context.
Mind you this is my opinion. I'm no expert, and I have only my own anecdotal evidence to go on.
More after I check with the network news sites.
