If I hadn't seen it for myself I wouldn't have believed it. Living on the west side of the Cascade mountains not far from Seattle I am accustomed to seeing Kerry/Edwards signs practically everywhere.
My husband and I went to the Puyallup Fair which is one of the largest in the country and draws thousands. Under the grandstand there were the Democrat and Republicans booths handing out yard signs, stickers etc. After spending all day and night at the fair I can tell you that 8 out of 10 fair goers who were making a political statement were either wearing or carrying a Bush/Cheney sign. Even more surprising was that most were young people. Even a few vendors had Bush/Cheney stickers on their tables. I did not see one vendor with a Kerry/Edwards sticker.
I actually became depressed because it didn't rain. I guess being born and raised here I truly have become accustomed to the rain.
I have heard some speculation that some dems are going to silently vote for Bush. I knew of some in the 2000 election that voted for Bush while telling their liberal friends that they voted for Gore.
In my area it's two Bush/Cheney signs to none for Kerry. That's not bad for around here!
Yeah, it's funny what gets liberals angry. You woulda thought they were being asked to support the 2nd amendment. : )
I think Seattle's OK. Yeah, it's liberal, but I'm used to DC and Philly, so maybe it takes more for me to be offended.
I find the city very well run and the people (including civil servants) polite and pleasant. What a change from those east coast cesspools of incompetence.
How does the Patty Murray/George Nethercutt race look? Voting out another liberal like Patty Murray from the U.S. Senate would be far better than Bush winning Washington's electoral votes. Frankly, Bush won't need them.
She's ahead ... by how much I don't know. Nethercutt will have a tough fight, but he has as good of chance as anyone has had against Murray. Again all the liberals in Seattle will vote for her. After all they love Baghdad Jim McDermott.
Have you joined the Puget Sound FReeper Chapter?
Glad your area is hopefull too!
Yes I have.
Thanks for the update. I hope that Washington goes for Bush!
I actually expect Dino Rossi to have a fair shot at the Governors' office, especially if someone gets down and dirty against his opponents. I was with three Dems at dinner last night and said that I was sorry that Ron Sims lost as I thought that at least the King County Executive had some experience effectively running a large government group. I said that C.G. had obviously proved she was incapable of consistent management by the mess in the Attorney General's office.
What floored me was that all three Dem's said that yes CG was likely to make some huge state department management blunders and cost this state a pretty penney.
I suspect that if Rossi goes negative, he can win and win handily, especially, if there are any Bush coat tails.
In the primary last week, democrats out voted republicans 60-39 with 1% libertarian.
Oh, did I mention that it rains here all the time?
I hope Washington State does too, what a slap it would be in the liberals face. I am so tired of them running this state into the ground. I know Washingtonians on the eastern side are weary of them too.
Not looking good.
When I left Seattle 2.5 years ago, I knew of more Pro-Saddam bumper stickers in my neighborhood than American flags.
No, it's more like 15' tall
Vicki! Long time no see on FR! I worked down at the fair booth last Sunday and it was exactly as you said. WE WERE SWAMPED! Amazing the number of people who wanted to WEAR their Bush stickers right then and there! Babies for Bush, too - how adorable! And also a good number of young people whihc gave me hope for the future.
Some might not believe you, but I know it to be true. That is why I was so excited about seeing so many Bush supporters at the fair. In fact, I have seen more bumper stickers for Bush this time. Sure there are still more Kerry/Edwards but there is definitely more support for Bush this time around.
Everything you said is true, sad but true.
