The fax machine at a commercial Kinkos is not subject to customer tampering, and must comply with federal law.

I still think the key is the log for the computer -- those memos were typed using default Word settings by someone who couldn't fake it well. Odds are they typed it quickly at Kinkos and then faxed it from there.
Occam's razor - the simpliest explaination is usually the correct explaination. If we find a familiar name on the sign-in sheet from the last two or so months, you have the scene of the crime.

Let's remember that the forged document was copied over and over and over again to make it look older or reduce the ability to detect fraud. I bet the photocopier was what brought the forger to Kinko's, not the fax machine.

Busy in Abilene is right.
It gets better. Seems like Robin Rather got Dan Rather to speak at a Ben Barnes DNC fund raiser. So it's pretty easy to see how Burkett could be put up to forging the documents and sending them off to Dan. Who knew nothing ... snicker.
The fuse is lit.

In a related development, White House press secretary Scott McClellan hinted that more documents regarding Bush's National Guard service may soon be released. Asked whether officials in the White House have seen unreleased documents, McClellan called that "a very real possibility." Other officials with knowledge of the situation said more documents had indeed been uncovered and would be released in the coming days. Now that will be some high drama.

Why? It wouldn't show you who actually sent them. It would only show the receiving fax number and the Kinkos fax number.
If the forgeries were done on the Kinkos computers, it can be traced via their login records. But if someone just walked in off the street and asked to fax something, paid with cash, and left, there would be no way to ID the specific person, other than a mugshot.
OTOH, these idiots were dumb enough to forge something... they probably paid with a credit card or check.

I understand it wont give you the who, but the where. The WHO would possibly be revealed by personal cell phone records.. on both ends.. Once you number ID the cell phone to the subscriber... then either THAT person was on the other end of the line, or they let someone else use their phone.. it's aplace to start.. furthermore.. whoever the phone belongs to, would probably tell us a lot..

Sending it by fax makes it wire fraud -- also federal.

"No sooner than the 60 Minutes interview aired with Killian's secretary claiming that the content in the fake memos were on target, this comes along to knock it off the radar. Impeccable timing, that. And it was the Washington Post too."Beautiful. Rather sets up a bait-and-switch with Grandma Knox in order to take the heat off the forgeries and gets slapped down by the WP.

Paul Begala,
Austin, Texas Dan Rather's daughter, Robin, who is a Democratic activist living in Austin Texas.
Texans for Truth was established by Glenn W. Smith, also the Director of the 20,000-member Texas online activist group, DriveDemocracy.org.
Glenn W. Smith is managing director/consultant to the progressive Rockridge Institute of Oakland, California. Smith lives in Austin, Texas.
Methinks I suspect a pattern here!
PAJAMAS UP!

For this reason, this mythical header looks like a setup, most likely to blame Birkett and cover up the DNC as a source. CBS could have faxed a copy from Kinko's at the time to cover their tracks in the event their scam blew up.
I think they are setting Burkett up as the scapegoat.
To: GeorgiaYankee
From the WP article:
Yesterday, the New York Times reported that a CBS staffer, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that Burkett was a source for the "60 Minutes" report but "did not know the exact role he played."
