MSM; Rather 1, Bloggers 0

Posted on 09/13/2004 2:40:35 PM PDT by geneboy

In case it's has escaped your attention, Dan Rather and the MSM, at least based on my review of it, has marched on. The forged documents have become yesterday's news.

What sould have been a defining moment in this year's presidential election is being ignored by the MSM, and by default, the general population.

We know, beyond a reasonable doubt, that CBS news used forged documents in its politically driven attempt to discredit President Bush's Air National Guard service. And we know that, to their credit, bloggers not only identified those documents as forgeries, but exposed them as forgeries. Initially it seemed as the the MSM would sieze upon this as a story. But, as of today, 13SEP94, the story has all but dissappeared from the mainstream media.

Dan Rather, after having given a pathetic defence of the documents, marches on, while the bloggers continue to preach to the choir.

The forged documents represented an opportunity to attack the MSM, DNC and Kerry/Edwards ticket on a number of levels. Specifically, their general incompetence and fundemental dishonesty. How can you trust the Kerry/Edwards ticket to succeed in the War on Terror when they can't even orchestrate the distribution of forged documents that fail to eclispe the abilities of most 7th graders. And how can we trust you someone who sinks to such desperate and dishonest measures in an effort to save a philosophically failed campaign.

Yet, the issues surrounding the memos have gone largely unreported. Why? Because the few media outlets conservatives have dropped the ball on this one.

Matt Drudge has decided to focus his attentions on Ivan. Hey Matt, I can get all the weather information I need from my second rate, network affiliate weatherman. Why don't you play to your strengths, emphasize politically charged charged stories that the MSM avoid.

And then there is Fox News, grade F. As a network news organization you never, EVER, miss an opportunity to increase your ratings at the expense of your competitiors. Fox should have put together an hour special on CBS's report for broadcast of Sunday night. For god's sake, the bloggers had done 90% of your research for you. And, you should have advertised it during the Sunday football games. Instead, Fox News seemed to content itself having dimwits like Shepard Smith, et al, repeat the AP wire story that, "CBS stands behind its sources."

So, my friends, Dan Rather will continue espouse his view of the world despite all your efforts.

Well, I gotta go. I have a BioChem exam this afternoon. And BioChem is a lot harder than politics.

Regards, and keep up the struggle.

Geneboy

I skimmed the rest of your diatribe after reading your ill-founded opening assertion.

The truth is you are wrong. It takes a lot to escape our attention, and your scenario simply isn't so.

If it were, Rather would not have addressed the issue yet again a short while ago. It hasn't aired here out west yet, but there's a thread going where freepers back east note Rather did yet another segment vouching (lamely) for the forgeries.

As to your comments re Fox News, I can only guess you haven't bothered watching it today.

All in all, seeing you signed up today to share your thoughts, I'm suspicious of your motives due to your faulty reasoning.

...if the memos/documents do turn out, ultimately, to be forged, that is...

You can't trouble some FReepers with the labor of actually reading the post. They are far too eager to jump to conclusions, insult others, and punish outsiders... which makes it far easier to understand just how the Liberals continue to proliferate.

I don't think this is worthy of a ZOT.

I agree with this post. While we fume and gloat amongst ourselves, CBS is running in the clear without truly getting spanked.

"I'm with you. The post was undeserving of the ZOT."

Count me in. One can't help but to contrast it with the thread. It reminds me of the situation with the kid who was assigned "cooties" in grade school, because she took the first insult with some attitude of maturity. ...and the trouble that followed.

All my estimations just got thrown out the window. Dan is continuing to talk about it. If Dan keeps blathering (purely coincidental word play) then that will keep the story alive, and keep it alive in a way that can't be blamed on paritsanship. I can't believe Dan is doing this, he apparently got real stupid recently.

Clarification.

Well, it seems in order. I can't remember ever eliciting so many responses to a comment in my life.

First off. I'm not a liberal, far from it. The first presidential election I voted in was in 1984. My ballot was cast for Ronald Reagan. And, I've voted Republican in every election since then.

Secondly, I'm a Navy veteran. I know it's not the stuff of great heroics, but I served on an ammunition ship, the U.S.S. Pyro AE-24, in the gulf in 1988/1989.

Third, I am anything but a John Kerry supporter. Kerry represents everything I hate about politicians. Specifically, the unwillingness to take a stand on anyhting of consequence.

My post was merely an attempt to discuss the political realities on the ground. That the MSM are trying to bury the story and the few outlets that conservatives have don't seem to be rising to the challange.

Believe me, my hat is off to those bloggers that uncovered the forgeries. You not only have my admiration but my gratitiude.

It was the news stories about the blogs that led me to this site. I had thought that I had found a community of like minded individuals. But, it seems as though my initial post was misinterpreted. My apologies.

BTW, I'm not some snot nosed college kid. I'm a 38 year old ex-network engineer who is going back to school to further his education in the hopes of getting into medical research.

The "geneboy" line was trite and vain. Again, my apologies.

Regards

I just saw an expert on Fox describe in detail why the signatures are not consistent with the many known samples she was given...At first glance she looked at the docs and thought"computer generated"..then proceeded to duplicate them exactly on her computer...Conclusion in legal speak..documents "probably not" created by Killian.

Hopefully, this fraud will be pursued.

Has anybody seen what NBC and ABC have done with this obvious fraud? Probably nothing.

My post was merely an attempt to discuss the political realities on the ground. That the MSM are trying to bury the story and the few outlets that conservatives have don't seem to be rising to the challange.

And you did a good job and you were correct with your comments.

There are too many "bandwagon" types here who have their emotion turned up to 100% max and their thinking ability turned down to a lesser level. You saw some of them. Disregard those.

There are many good people here (the majority) who like great discussion, and your point was right on the money.
