I'm convinced that CBS will do all in its power to NOT IDENTIFY the forgers.

I tuned in to The McLaughlin Group last night and was dismayed to see how much that show has deteriorated.

The only discussion that McLaughlin gave to the forgery topic -- forcefully raised by Tony Blankley -- was to pooh-pooh it.

The old man is slipping.

Yep. Dan is so defensive about it, maybe he is the forger.

(It now appears that CBS News may well have received the documents from a partisan and highly questionable source.)

McAuliffe? If so, "highly questionable" is the understatement of the year.

Isn't the conservative media biased and partisan in their own way also?

... the "mainstream media" is becoming more openly partisan.

I am a huge advocate of open partisanship. That forces each individual consumer of inforation to hink for himself, and/or carry on reasoned dialogue and analysis with friends and neighbors. That will make for a stronger society, because it will have more independent individuals.

Up to now, the media's liberalism was most unambiguously evident on social issues. Political coverage was the one place where real efforts at balance were made.

Pure, unadulterated BS there, Howie. Political coverage is, and has been for ages, the MOST biased, not the least.

--- If CBS were to admit that the documents were forgeries, it would have no grounds for protecting its sources. In fact, CBS would have a positive obligation to do everything in its power to expose the malefactors behind the forgeries. ---

CBS, the DNC, and the Kerry campaign are involved in a criminal conspiracy to illegally influence a federal election.

After reading this analysis, it seems the only way to fight back is to go after the sponsors.

Follow the money and kick 'em in the butt.

Anyone got a list of Rather-Not's sponsors?

"But the truth is, we ceased to take the word of Dan Rather or CBS a long time ago."

Yep.

"What's more, CBS knows this. And that is why they're sticking with their story."

Yep. The left has never really had any compunction against lying to advance their 'cause'.

Cordially,

This article would be more effective if it wasn't this wordy and emotional.

If I read Bernard Goldberg correctly he thinks Rather and CBS live in a bubble of liberal delusion and really consider themselves to be unbiased. This article - with which I agree - suggests that they know very well that they are shilling for the left.

Exactly - no one should have a problem with open partisanship. However, there is one very important issue at stake regarding the big 3 networks - they broadcast over regulated airspace (same is true for radio).

So, while the print press, Net and cable can fracture and segment along political lines, users of public resources have a basic obiligation of at least pretending to be fair.

There was a very good dissertation on this topic awhile back on FR ie why broascast media should not enjoy unlimited 1st Ammendment rights. If someone has the link, please post.

The two may be the same. A performer conforms to his market intuitively. His hopes and aspirations are their hopes and aspirations. On an organizational level if you recruit people who "get it" as far as this audience goes-voila, a deluded organization.

It reminds of the situation in youth athletics. Every single parent on one side of the field really truly believes and sees the play one way and says the ref is biased. The parents on the other side saw nothing deserving of a call and agree with the ref. They don't need to caucus to figure out what their opinion is.

Outstanding post!

Though the article does not deeply delve into the advent of "alternative media" (cable news, talk radio and the blogosphere), it does provide a foundational understanding of where journalism is headed in this country.

If a truly objective executive ever got a hold of the ABC or NBC news divisions, they could absolutely dominate in audience share. But alas, there are no television business people with that kind of vision.

CBS will not identify the forgers, because CBS collaborated with the DNC to do this. This is a clear attempt to unseat a US President in wartime through collusion.

The DNC and Dan Rather seek to overthrow GWB and put their boy - the wholly incompetent and fradulent john kerry - into office. This will have the effect of emboldening muslims worldwide to keep killing Americans, in particular in Iraq, to drive the election their way. A kerry triumph over GWB will create conditions of open season on Americans, both abroad and domestically.

This is a moral outrage of the highest level, that the democrat party will do anything to regain the White House, and must be combatted by all caring Americans for the good of our children, their children, and their children's children.

Rather being "in a bubble" is entirely possible. I have a cousin who lives in the very liberal Austin, Texas. She considers herself conservative. When she ventures north of I-20 and east of I-35, she can hardly believe how "much more conservative" we are out here in "the outback."
