... the "mainstream media" is becoming more openly partisan.

I am a huge advocate of open partisanship. That forces each individual consumer of inforation to hink for himself, and/or carry on reasoned dialogue and analysis with friends and neighbors. That will make for a stronger society, because it will have more independent individuals.

Exactly - no one should have a problem with open partisanship. However, there is one very important issue at stake regarding the big 3 networks - they broadcast over regulated airspace (same is true for radio).

So, while the print press, Net and cable can fracture and segment along political lines, users of public resources have a basic obiligation of at least pretending to be fair.

There was a very good dissertation on this topic awhile back on FR ie why broascast media should not enjoy unlimited 1st Ammendment rights. If someone has the link, please post.
