N Korea says it blew up mountain

North Korea has given an explanation for the huge blast last Thursday which prompted speculation that it was a part of a nuclear test.

The country's foreign minister, Paek Nam Sun, said the blast was the deliberate demolition of a mountain as part of a hydro-electric project.

His remarks were in response to a call for information by the visiting UK Foreign Office minister, Bill Rammell.

North Korea had said absolutely nothing about the incident until now.

I'm sorry. I just find this so funny. It's like the guy who falls through his roof so he turns it into a sunlight.

It was an ugly mountain anyway.

Rev 6:14-17

14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

It's one of those inscrutable oriental things. Something about blowing up a mountain if it won't come to you.

Pretty soon they will be claiming they blew it because Osama Bin Laden was living in it and they just wanted to help the world out by blowing him up with the mountain.

Just think... "part of a hydro electric project" !!!

Water flows DOWNHILL. How many rivers large enough
to make it worthwhile to power a major hydroelectric
project are IN a mountain range...say the Himalayas?

cf Hoover Dam for example. . .

I think it is interesting that despite reports of a
4-5 km Mushroom Cloud, the US govt. did not point to
either seismograph records (say) or satellite surveillance
records to REFUTE the idea of nuclear blast; they just
relied on the "it wasn't a nuke, we aren't sure WHAT
it was" statements.

What besides a nuke makes a mushroom cloud of that size?
Speaking of mountains, it sure wasn't Mt. St. Helens . . .

Lotsa possibilities here.

I wonder how long our new spaced-based weapons will be kept secret?

I hope we can destroy Iran's nuclear facilities before they find out.

Like a hammer from heaven, and no trace. Trains, mountains, tunnels....

That space shuttle has been worth every dollar spent.

The seismic data for the NK blast was 2.6 on the Richter scale...substantially smaller than the 3.5 made by the larger of two conventional blasts that sunk the Russian Kursk submarine...
