Riight, newbie.
And Watergate was just a botched burglary.

The key to all this is the forger. He needs to be found.

I still want to know who the hell the expert was who reviwed these documents.

There is absolutley no excuse not to give the expert's name.

If it pans out, as the Washington Post alluded too, that CBS actually read the documents to someone with knowledge and there was no documents expert you can kiss CBS's 60 Minutes good bye.

DUmmie Quote of the Year: Oh, please. Like a bunch of amateurs on the Internet would be able to figure out something that CBS News stuck its neck out over and never thought to investigate. Riiight.

We should get this highlighted on the FreeRepublic front page!

I loved this DU quote: skypilot (1000+ posts) Thu Sep-09-04 10:46 AM

If they were forgeries... someone other than a dumbass freeper would have figured that out by now. Jesus, we are in the 21st century we don't need some goofy ass freeper to figure out if something is real or not. There are professionals out there that are very good at these things.

Soooo cool! The 'Rats really love to think of themselves as such the "intellectuals", and it is so sweet when they are shown to be the stooges, and the conservatives are the truly knowledgeable.

" the Kerry camp cannot be this stupid."

It seems no one could be that stupid, but I wonder. I was receiving email propaganda from the DNC for a while, until I couldn't take the blather any longer. In emails from Mary Beth Cahill and Kerry.com there were links to the Media fund and moveon.org. I wouldn't think they would be that stupid either, but maybe they are. They do realize if they spread a lie far and wide, the truth of it doesn't register. I hope they get nailed on this one.

Sounds more and more like they were passed to CBS as soon as they were passed to the DNC by the AP.

Again...these fake docs were NOT part of the AP FOI suit docs. These were made-up from "whole cloth" as it's said.

kerry, on the other-hand, must try to hide all the way to November.

What about the debates? He cannot count on the press now, they are in the treading water mode.

Not the first time they've tried that, I'm sure.

Nope. That's what Bush's supposed trip to France on an SR-71 to make Iran keep the hostages until Reagan was elected was all about. No facts but the "seriousness of the charges".

A screen on the tv while the guy from Texans for truth was speaking said that he was a former leader of MoveOn.Org. and had other suspicious ties, as well.

All that is accurate. He is slimey, and intended to prepare and air advertisements that claimed Bush was seriously delinquent in some aspect of his National Guard commitment.

But I did read that the group is adamant that it has no connection with the CBS documents. I'm sure whoever prepared them would want to deny it, and their denial may be false. My gut (FWIW) tells me this group did not originate the forged documents.

Top of the hour radio news reports 1) CBS stands behind the accuracy of its 60 Minutes story and 2) the White House is "interested" in this story.

Not only did they work together, they had their talking points, speeches and strategy all lined up.

True--Tom Harkin and Terry McAwful spewing their bile, all the newspapers and their pre-written stories (all amazingly similar in content and context), the talking heads ready with copy and graphics.

Yeah, tell me that the DNC isn't synonymous with MSM.

And yet they'll convince themselves that Karl Rove was behind it all, and was counting on CBS buying something that "a bunch of amateurs on the Internet would be able to figure out."

And when that bottoms out, they'll say, "OK so what, how does proving the documents were fake help to feed a hungry child."

Empty suit strikes again.

From our old friends at ratherbiased.com, there's an article titled, "What's the Font Size, Kenneth?"

Did Rather actually say the documents themselves were genuine? That's not what I heard. What I heard was that Rather was standing by his claim that the "story is true." But I may have missed something.

There's a huge difference, but you have to parse Rather's words in the way that Clinton parsed his own Lewinsky denials to spot it.

I do not doubt for a moment that Rather is convinced the underlying story is true. However, I believe he and his crew knew they were dealing with phonied-up documents, but that they rationalized going with the story by telling themselves, "But the underlying claim in the memos is true."

It would be akin to an unscrupulous conservative reporter publishing an obviously phony document purportedly written by a deceased officer who had commanded Kerry in Vietnam dated Christmas 1968 that said, "Went to mass with Lt(jg) John F. Kerry this AM. We spent the rest of the day in our hooch at An Loc drinking scotch, more than 50 miles from the Cambodian border."

This whole scenario is like watching Mystery Science Theater 3000 with the liberals providing hilarious running commentary.

So, let me get this straight. You believe that the fax numbers relating to CBS and the White House were not forged on a document that WAS forged? Everything about those documents are forged. You can no longer rely on CBS, Dan Rather to vouch for the authenticity of any thing having to do with these memos.

Of course it is not just about the proportional spacing. The type of font used. The superscript. The signatures that don't match. Not using the standard format and letterhead for this type of document. That it matches almost 100% to a MS Word document from 30 years later. The family that says Killian thought highly of Bush and spoke about him openly. The other official documents from Killian praising Bush. The fact that an officer would have kept these documents in his personal files, just to be found 20 years after his death during a presidential election. And on and one....

Unless the source comes forward, we will never prove 100%. Unfortunately, the MSM/CBS will be able to weather this. But I think that it will just futher remind people that the Dems have no vision and no positive message. Bush just keeps tracking along day by day, ignoring all of this. Just keeps telling us how he is going to protect us, and make our lives better. That is why Bush will win. Not because of the Swift vets, the TX ANG, or memogate.

KerrySpot on National Review Online:

RATHER: NO RETRACTION, 'THIS STORY IS THE TRUTH' [09/10 12:21 PM]

Media source in New York says Rather just did an interview with CNN on the street: "I know this story is the truth...There will be no retraction...When people talk about where we got the story they're only doing it because they don't like the story..."

Stunning. Either this memo turns out to be the real deal, or Rather is going to be a joke by the time this is over.

"I'm sure that the same folks who screwed CBS would be more than happy to do the same thing to ABC/NBC/CNN should the need and the opportunity arise...

Yeah, actually it's kind of too bad that the Perky One wasn't the talking head that did the interview, and used the forged docs.

I'd love to see her hide her head in her colon!

My cousin is going on her honeymoon to the Dominican Republic in 2 weeks.

Just got back from there, she'll have a great time down there.
