FR Servers Up to the Task?
Posted on 09/10/2004 8:46:20 AM PDT by Glenn
Ther response time to bring up the latest topics is getting slower and slower.
I'm assuming the success of the Freeper reporters is causing the world to click on FreeRepublic. Do we need an emergency fundraiser to beef up the servers before November 2nd? I'd rather pay now than pay later.

I'd rather pay now than later, too, Glen.
Time for a pre-election fund raiser?

Well, do we? We know that the server will be working at or near capacity.

If you think there's a problem now (and I don't, but then
I'm on 28.8 dial-up), just wait until the opposition
creates zillions of new users accounts to spam FR with
trolls faster than the admins can delete them.
It may be necessary to suspend new account creation for
3 days leading up to the election, or at least delay
issuance of credentials by 24 hours to discourage
those keen on trolling.
I'd also look into suspending the ability of idle
accounts (no posts lately or ever) to create new
articles. There may be sleeper accounts.

The thought of not having FR is a terrible thought, indeed.

Today, anyway....I just did a reboot, figuring it was just me.

I don't think I could handle not having FR. If it is needed, I would certainly give funds, if only for my own sanity during the election.....

Today, anyway....I just did a reboot, figuring it was just me. I rebooted as well. But when I hit enter, it just stares at me. I'm used to being fast, and this is tedious for me.

I am on the high speed of DSL and it is very slow.
Jim -- Please consider a supplemental fundraiser for what you all need to boost the system. I'll keep my monthly and donate a one-time deal to a supplemental fundraiser. We need FR bad!

However anyone can donate at anytime by going to the donation page(22 seconds later) I knew that. I just need to know if FR is under a burden now and that this isn't some temporary lag.
