CBSNEWS LAUNCHES INTERNAL INVESTIGATION AFTER SUSPICIOUS BUSH DOCS AIRED
**Exclusive**
CBS NEWS executives have launched an internal investigation into whether its premiere news program 60 MINUTES aired fabricated documents relating to Bush's National Guard service, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
"The reputation and integrity of the entire news division is at stake, if we are in error, it will be corrected," a top CBS source explained late Thursday.
The source, who asked not to be named, described CBSNEWS anchor and 60 MINUTES correspondent Dan Rather as being privately "shell-shocked" by the increasingly likelihood that the documents in question were fraudulent.
Rather, who anchored the segment presenting new information on the president's military service, will personally correct the record on-air, if need be, the source explained from New York.

LMAO............Too Kewl !
>>No Justice! No peace!! Harkin, call your office!<<
ROTFLMAO!!!
A WONDERFUL day to be a FREEPER!!!!!!!!
That official gave that statement earlier today.
It seems that they will hurt from the fact that Hodges never actually saw the document. The read it to him over the phone.
The fact remains.....CBS based their story on unsubstantiated documents. Documents that are not military documents...as they claim. Documents that use a font that was not in use at the time. They claimed they are from the personal files of Killian.....but his family says they are not. And one document mentions pressure from an officer...who may have already retired.
Also...the documents the show...in NO way show that Bush did not meet his drill points. So, like the Globe, they misrepresented what the documents meant.
NOT GOOD FOR CBS.
Love your tag-line...
It would not be the Justice Dept.
It would be folks from DCIS...and AFOSI

In a 5 second retraction aired at 3am on a Wednesday
"They thought it was hatred of Kerry that drove that story. Partly, yes, it was partisan."
I think that they didn't count on a lot of pissed off veterans.
It's almost time to throw away all the meds we had stocked up for election night! (all legal, of course)
"Freerepublic.com is America's best kept open secret!"
Haha you spoke too soon:

WFAA News 8 in Dallas, as of 10 pm cent broadcast, were still reporting that the documents came from the White House....which they did not.
The documents that Rather used....came from a source that Rather refuses to name.
Rather tried to misrepresent the issue by saying that they came from Killian's personal files.....which is now falling apart since Killian's widow and son said they are bogus, he did not keep personal files, and they did not come from the family.
Kerry is the wrong guy in the wrong country at the wrong time, supported by the wrong people.
Some old FBI files from Hillery about W.just surfaced mysteriously like those of her billing records showed up in the W.H. after two years of looking for them!!!
Have I been Clintonized or what?
I was thinking the same thing about NBC and KK. The public will hopefully have had enough of the lies and just ignore her. And NBC won't want to be in the same postition CBS is in now (if they have half a brain anyway).
"CBS officials insisted that the network had done due diligence in checking out the authenticity of the documents with independent experts over six weeks. The senior CBS official said the network had talked to four typewriting and handwriting experts "who put our concerns to rest" and confirmed the authenticity of Killian's signature."
They will say they had the documents and signature authenticated by 4 different independent experts. So, if they're not authentic, blame these experts, not CBS. As to whether such "experts" did authenticate the memos, I hope CBS will be forced to name them.
I wonder if he will also FINALLY mention that Bob Barnes is a HUGH fundraiser for the Kerry campaign. He conveniently left that out in the original program.
Felonies have been forgotten before - remember McDermott? - but I think this one's already gone beyond the "find a fall guy" stage. CBS is going down over this and Kerry's people may be attached to the anchor line as well. Look for the Johns to suddenly recall the economy, stupid, or maybe the homeless, or perhaps a "hey, look over there! A bird!" They're done.
