CBSNEWS LAUNCHES INTERNAL INVESTIGATION AFTER SUSPICIOUS BUSH DOCS AIRED

**Exclusive**

CBS NEWS executives have launched an internal investigation into whether its premiere news program 60 MINUTES aired fabricated documents relating to Bush's National Guard service, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

"The reputation and integrity of the entire news division is at stake, if we are in error, it will be corrected," a top CBS source explained late Thursday.

The source, who asked not to be named, described CBSNEWS anchor and 60 MINUTES correspondent Dan Rather as being privately "shell-shocked" by the increasingly likelihood that the documents in question were fraudulent.

Rather, who anchored the segment presenting new information on the president's military service, will personally correct the record on-air, if need be, the source explained from New York.

"What's with "hugh"? "

It's a bad joke that won't go away. Have you ever heard a joke that wasn't really funny and sometime later you heard it a second time and found it more annoying than anything else....Well, that's "hugh" in a nutshell.

Just ignore it, even though some here think it's a kneeslapper.

Did anyone see this? Here is a post from BlogsForBush:

Adding to the PO Box theory:

1. During my Navy experience, unit addresses were listed as their Fleet Post Office box, not a USPS box or street address, through the early 90's. Since we could be deployed anywhere, the FPO gave us a fixed address to collect our mail. Did USAF / ANG units do the same with APO addresses?

2. A Google on the term "PO Box 34567" Houston returns six hits.

Two of the six hits are for a list of Islamic booksellers, including Al-Madinah Publishers with the subject PO Box in Pretoria, South Africa.

Two of the hits reveal that PO box 34567 in Houston is currently in use by Ashland Chemical, about 2 miles up Galveston Road from Ellington Field. It'd be tempting to call them in the morning [(713) 948-5858] and find out how long they've had that box. Too bad I'm working along with the other 94.8% of Americans who want to work.

Subject: Rather

It's time to cut Dan loose like a tick on coon dog.

How could he deliver the news with a straight face on Thursday night while Jennings and Brokaw are selling the phony doc story like snake oil on a Saturday night at the whorehouse.

Rather has become as useless to CBS as tits on Helen Thomas.

Dan has damaged the reputation of CBS like Kobe Bryant on Ladies Night at Hooters.

Rather should be fired as quick as a jackrabbit in a bear hole.

Fox should send Brit with a hand held camera over to CBS banging on the door, Mike Wallace(or fatso Moore) style, asking questions about the forgeries. That'd be a hoot.

ROFLMAO!!

Thanks again, amigo. But this thing really does come from thousands and thousands of people. It is incredible how fast this story has spread. Like I said earlier, I'm grinning so much the back of my head hurts.

I smell a Pulitzer!

Seriously though, outstanding job on this story. I am utterly shocked that such a smear piece, on a sitting President, on the longest running news program, would turn out to apparently be fraudulent.

Thank you!

Well, does that mean that all we have to do is talk to "Deep Font", and we'll know who made the fake docs??

"Rather will correct"

"It is not a legitimate correction if the source is not identified. "

"CBS cannot claim the anonymity of sources to withhold the name of the source, since the source provided unethically FALSE information. Otherwise, they claim they will protect proven false sources. This will give the impression that false information is OK with them and perhaps part of their MO."

Excellent point, my friend! Do you think he will come all the way clean or try to hedge and conceal that "source?"

Does the concensus here seem to be that Dan will do his thing tomorrow evening during the early evening news hour?

I appreciate the sentiment, but I really think Kerry jumped the shark when he put on the Bunny Suit.

Ted McGinley joined the cast with the hiring of the Clintonistas.

Today is the day that Joannie married Chachi.
