An excerpt from Steyn's latest has me suspicious that a slaughter of schoolkids is planned for America soon-maybe before the election.

Could what happened in Beslan happen in the US? Two months ago, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported on a fellow called Mohamad Kamal Elzahabi, a suspected terrorist who'd fought with his fellow jihadi in Chechnya and somehow wound up in Minnesota, where he'd applied for licences to transport hazardous materials and drive school buses.

Now, what if some less suspicious "white-looking" Chechen, or female, or some local recruit(s) starts driving school bus and and shows for work up one day and rigs a bus full of kids with explosives? Background checks can be defeated with enough planning. I doubt the enemy will make the same mistake twice.
We are catching way too many suspects up here in Minneapolis. Wonder if this is happening in your city also?

This is very true. Everyone is expecting another plane attack or a gas attack or even a nuke. But, our border have been open all this time and, as we've seen, these nutcakes don't need much more than conventional and easily available weapons. They simply need to exploit a vulnerability. You are quite correct: we are vulnerable in our schools. I took my kids out of public school, several years ago, for a variety of obvious reasons. After this past week's horror in Beslan, I'm thankful to God that my children ARE NOT "vulnerable" in that way.
It didn't happen during Columbine.
Ok, you have me paranoid now. My son's middle school had their library enlarged (why? I dunno)this last summer. On the other hand, we live in a rural county. And don't have as awesome a threat, like a more urban area. You know, terrorists look for massive casulties (not meaning to sound morbid). Yup, it's time to start thinking seriously about homeschooling.
No, the drills were practiced as late as the mid sixties. I remember them in first, second and third grades. They have video tapes showing these drills in various years.

Too bad a large percentage of "educators" are gun-grabbers at heart. The lefty politics of education are pervasive and overwhelming. Political correctness replaces accuracy, as in revisionist history, sex education, etc.
Look at the trouble airline pilots are having regarding actually being able to carry arms as has been authorized - the politics of (D) Norman Minetta are preventing it. Most in academia are at least as abjectly ignorant as Minetta (why is he still there?!) on this subject.
It's an idea whose time has come, though; clearly academia needs to take self-protective measures, but you can bet, even after an American Beslan-like event, academia will not accept repsonsibility for protecting itself or any of its students! Liberals will never come to grips with the FACT that there ARE real enemies out there!
SOunds like "collateral damage" looking for a place to happen. Nothing like idiots to muck up a good head shot.

I went to a grade school where we practiced that regularly.
That was over fast, and if I recall, quite a few folks went in on thier own. Also, we know now the nature of the enemy, waiting/talking is a mistake.
I don't know where you went to school, but I sure remember them. As a matter of fact when I student taught in 1966 we were still teaching those drills...

I think we are a tolerant people, but when innocents are targeted and attacked, tortured and brutally killed, we are driven to respond. Our values keep our desire to respond in kind in check, but we will reach a breaking point. That breaking point will happen and the moderate muslim had better realize that his radical muslim brother is painting a target on him with each act of terror.
Don't think it can't happen? Look at our movies, our heroes, our wild-west culture. Remember we make up a gun toting society that won't keep turning its cheek much longer. Our sense of decency, our values and even our need for justice are being challenged. Know it's a challenge we will rise up to meet.
Not a threat, just something muslims need to ponder before we all cross that point of no return.
Don't get your hopes up. Prepare for a "period of introspection."

Damn right she is. If we are going to win this war we must be willing to "threat profile" people.
I have read her book and saw her a few weeks ago plugging her book in Washington, and she is so right.
I believe some new buses also have a bulletproof partition bettwen the driver and students..
Don't get me wrong... waking up to the reality that children in school, or anywhere else, could easily be the target of an islamofacist terroist attack is better late than never. I just keep being taken aback by statements that appear oblivious to the fact that it has been happening for a long time. And I am making the thinly vailed accusation that this ignorance is compounded by the fact that these prior attacts have occured Israel.
It's not commonly used now but another word for shield is "target". :)
We're doing that already. White, pro-gun, pro-life, pro-common sense, pro-freedom, pro-family, pro-capitalist, pro-American people are considered a threat to society.
