2004 Republican Party Platform - Illegal Immigration
2004 Republican National Convention Website ^ | August 26, 2004 | Platform Committee (Melissa Hart & Eric Tanenblatt, Subcommittee Chairs)

Posted on 09/06/2004 2:16:56 AM PDT by k2blader

Re-typed verbatim from the 2004 Republican Party Platform (pages 80 and 81):

Supporting Humane and Legal Immigration

The Republican Party supports reforming the immigration system to ensure that it is legal, safe, orderly and humane. It also supports measures to ensure that the immigration system is structured to address the needs of national security. America is a stronger and better nation because of the hard work and entrepreneurial spirit of immigrants, and the Republican Party honors them. A growing economy requires a growing number of workers, and President Bush has proposed a new temporary worker program that applies when no Americans can be found to fill the jobs. This new program would allow workers who currently hold jobs to come out of the shadows and to participate legally in America’s economy. It would allow men and women who enter the program to apply for citizenship in the same manner as those who apply from outside the United States. There must be strong workplace enforcement with tough penalties against employees and employers who violate immigration laws. We oppose amnesty because it would have the effect of encouraging illegal immigration and would give an unfair advantage to those who have broken our laws.

To better ensure that immigrants enter the United States only through legal means that allow for verification of their identity, reconnaissance cameras, border patrol agents, and unmanned aerial flights have all been increased at the border. In addition, Border Patrol agents now have sweeping new powers to deport illegal aliens without having first to go through the cumbersome process of allowing the illegal alien to have a hearing before an immigration judge. We support these efforts to enforce the law while welcoming immigrants who enter America through legal avenues.

That's the policy I agree with, thanks for pointing out the difference.

Dude. We totally agree! Fixing our problems here, which has seemed nearly impossible for the last 40 years due to our Politically Correct 1956 and 1965 immigration acts, is not going to happen overnight. Please give us time, and keep sending in those visa requests. And keep commenting here on FR about the hypocrisy of our current policies.

Down with PC immigration, and up with immigration of true friends!

" The incumbent President has stood by and watched it continue for almost four years. "

I disagree,

I believe the incumbent president has purposly encouraged this "disaster of massive proportions".

Did you see George P. Bush speak at the convention? I liked a lot of what he said, and if all Latinos were as well assimilated as he is, I wouldn't have any problems. I support the idea that we should help them assimilate, but the reality is that their culture leaders here are folks like Ceasar Chavez and Cruz Bustamante.

I have yet to be convinced that assimilation is of any interest to either the illegals themselves or those who support and enable them.

AMERICANS FIRST

I like the idea: why not add Poland to the commonwealth coalition of Anglo-Saxon countries? Poland was first to fight in the war that preserved our existence. Poland is fighting with us now for our survival. Why not form a super-commonwealth that includes her?

LOL!! Over the past 2 years Bush has said he simply wants to match willing employees to willing employers. Somebody needs to tell him that he is president of the US of A and that he is not getting paid to run Kelly Girls or Manpower.

He uses every play on words that he can to try to disguise his amnesty agenda.

Unfortunately, illegal immigration has cheapened the meaning of citizenship in this country. So has all these "entitlements".

Armenians arriving in this country during the 80's were being handed $10,000.00 a head just to come here, and no interest money to start businesses, and buy homes. If our government had a need to give away that kind of money, why didn't the people who paid it in get a tax rebate.

Interesting. More importantly, what does the Democratic Platform say? Seems it should also be in the comparison.

This new program would allow workers who currently hold jobs to come out of the shadows and to participate legally in America’s economy.

Translation: People who snuck across the border, got fake documents, and took a job away from an American, and are "in the shadows" because they did all of this illegally, will have no reason to fear that they'll ever be punished for their crimes. On the contrary, they'll be rewarded. Oh, but don't call it amnesty!

Well you have a point. Many conservatives would like to stick their head in the sand on this issue and concentrate on defeating democrats, especially those left of center.

Many are getting sick of hearing repeated variations of "immigrants (99% Mexicans) are needed because they fill jobs Americans don't want to do".

This is false.

The truth is the illegal jobs are not needed because the production level is excessive. The true cost is framed within a myriad of shell games that cover the spectrum between subsidized goods and services and higher taxes.

There is no free lunch.

If the GOP wants to set out a plan to resolve this illegal issue, the answer is found in the laws of nature. Drastically cut taxes (minimally 50%), overturn Roe vs. Wade and encourage childbearing to initiate a trend towards stabilization of demographics between old and young, and promote a renaissance of the family farm.

It will take between one and two generations to see the result.

Think about what you're saying. If businesses don't have to pay their employee's benefits, who does that leave to pay those benefits?

The U.S. Taxpayers, that's who!

Your post is just another call for business profits to remain privatized, while the costs of their cheap labor force are socialized.

Sorry, no sale.

Next.

We would get immediate tax dollar influx if this philosophy was applied to the prostitution industry ;-)

Don't forget this is the same George who was campaigning in Mexico in Spanish that our border agents were nothing but machismo because they were armed with pepper bullets (the post was on FR). He regularly campaigns in Spanish.
