September 6, 2004 -- Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani's speech at the Republican National Convention swayed more voters to re-elect President Bush than the speeches given by Sen. John McCain and Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a new poll shows. Giuliani's 40-minute speech Monday night convinced 24 percent of those polled to vote for the GOP ticket, according to a recent Newsweek poll. That's compared to 20 percent who said they were more likely to vote for Bush after hearing Schwarzenegger's speech Tuesday night. Just 20 percent said McCain's speech persuaded them to vote Republican in the Nov. 2 election.
Giuliani is said to be considering a presidential run in 2008, but some say his pro-choice, pro-gay rights record wouldn't make a good fit for a GOP ticket.

Aha! Thanks. Ima nut fur gud writin.

I'm not sure those figures make much sense. I like Laura, but I don't see her swaying public opinion that much. I don't think McCain is that popular to move people that much.
I think Giuliani, Zell and Arnold's presentations were infectous. Democrats will watch them because of thier popularity, or in Zell's case, his connection to their party.
That's where the movement would be IMO.
Where do you get that. Giulani has been on record as more pro-abortion than Hilary Clinton. He has never once questioned partial birth abortion.
Yes, 121 to 131% should put a dent in Kerry's count alright. ;)
Each speaker spoke to a specific audience.
Zell to everyone from Virginia to Louisiana.
Rudy to NY, NJ,CT, RI and PA. (dense populations)
Arnold to CA and the immigrant vote, such as Cubans and Hispanics.
McCain to the RINOs everywhere.
Tommy Franks to the vets and current military.
And Laura to women everywhere.
I'm with YOU. The others were girlie-speeches, the first of their 2008 campaigns.
Frankly, I don't know who on the Repub bench is ready in the line-up. I love Condi, but she's never run in an election before. I can't see Cheney running and, if he did, the Dems would make this campaign genteel in comparison.
The former mayor dismissed the poll, heaping praise instead on his fellow Republicans.
Rudy is the consummate statesman.
Ideally, that's what I'd prefer. Rudy running against Hillary in 2006. And come 2008, if another Republican is elected, I'd like to see him as Attorney General.
Hear, hear!
I imagine if Guiliani was on the ticket he would be balanced with a staunch conservative, too.
Guiliani/Miller, '08!
I noticed that Cheney seemed visibly tired and uncomfortable during the convention, including when he spoke. We'll definitely see Rudy up for serious consideration as Bush's sucessor in four years.
Rudy Giuliani does not believe in your protected right to keep and bear arms. I'd never vote for the guy. This guy is not a conservative...not even close!
Guns or knives, Butch...LOL! I forgot all about that scene! One,two,three,go...!
I think Tommy Franks should be put high on the list. He gave a powerhouse speech, and he has enormous credibility.
Guiliani would blow the dems out of the water in 2008. He would be a marvelous president.
If Dickie Morris is to be believed, Bush's big weakness earlier in the year was that he framed all the War on Terror stuff in "masculine" terms and needed to come up with phrases that put it in a way mothers could understand as protecting children. Perhaps Zell did exactly that.
I keep predicting that in 2008 we will have a major shift in the GOP toward a conservative candidate (don't know who just yet) who will trumpet IMMIGRATION controls and FISCAL CONSERVATISM. Actually, as I have said many times, Bush's proposals (MSAs for Medicare, privatizing SS) are the "nose in the tent" to accomplish this, but it will take someone who is tougher on these issues to pull it through.
Who you ask? Well none of us really heard of Bush before 1998, so around 2006 I'd be looking at people who are tough on immigration and fiscal conservatives, esp. governors.
Maybe they knew it would, and chose not to air it. That is what I call "soft" media bias...it's all about what they don't show, it's all about what they don't say, it's all about what they edit out of the same news stories.
You are absolutely correct...the GOP 2004 Convention is the "nose over" for the LSM/MSM...great news! Go Fox! Go FR!
