Has Drudge Jumped the Shark?

Posted on 09/03/2004 9:01:43 AM PDT by Shortwave

It's Friday and I'm feeling great! I want to get Freeper's opinion on something that I've noticed as of late. Has the Drudge Report jumped the shark? The content of his site has been very lame and late in posting. With the political "spit balls" firing back and forth, it seems that his coverage has not been good. It appears to me as a trend. Just my opinion but I would like to hear yours.

My problem with Drudge is the idiotic pop-ups. My favorite is a pop-up that advertises a pop-up blocker! It is not unusual to get 4 different ads opening at one time with his site - some I am sure contain spyware.

I think there has to be a girl (or guy, if rumors are true).

Drudge always seemed to me to be a loner. He couldn't have had much of social life to constantly be breaking stories. So perhaps now there is someone and he simply doesn't want to spend as much time on work.

It will be interesting to see how quickly he gets to the breaking Clinton story. No news on his site so far...

Isn't Matt Drudge living in Florida? If so, he has more important things to worry about than his website. Keep safe down there in Florida!

One of the greatest contributions Windows XP Service Pack 2 made for me was killing Drudge's popups.

Drudge is still drudge.

He was able to do things because the media underestimated the power of his page. They will never let him do that again.

He is still the secret homepage of the Partisan Media.

HOWEVER, I find FR a far more valuble news source.

Tell you the truth, Drudge use to be the first web site I would pull up each morning to see what the latest news is for talking points with my conservative friends at work.

Now it's freerepublic. You can get what's on Drudge, and lots more.

I'm am thankful for Drudge though. He did for the Web what Rush Limbaugh did for talk radio.

However - Drudge once in awhile on his radio show he can get me a little angry with him. The last two Sundays he spent allot of time talking about how Bush was only going to be in NY for nine hours, like that was something Bush should be ashamed of.

I think his credibility was badly damaged when he reported the sKerry/mistress affair which turned out to be a bust. I think he may be kinda gun-shy now and more cautious about what he reports.

Maybe he is on vacation and his aunt is running the web site.

Clinton story is on his site now, though. I had gone there after seeing Fox News report on it but saw nothing then.

Drudge is my homepage, and I still like Drudge. But I'm finding that when I read a new article on Drudge and then come to FreeRepublic there's already a thread with 200 posts. FR beats him nearly every time.

I think Drudge lives in Miami and is obsessed with the impending hurricane. The only updated stories on his site are about the storm.

JUMP THE SHARK:

Keith Olbermann actually explained this term in one of his columns:

http://www.jewishworldreview.com/0604/olbermann061804.asp

Sorry, I wasn't able to cut and paste. Apparently Fonzie, on Happy Days, water skiied over some sharks. This story line was apparently used out of desperation as the series began to lose viewers.

As another poster mentioned, there's also a "Jump the Shark" website that names similar instances of when something begins to lose its popularity.

Ah, that makes more sense! The famous Happy Days episode where the cast went to California. Fonzie DID jump the shark, and the basis for Joanie Loves Chachi spin off was established.

I never listen to Olbermann. No cable, lucky me. Thanks.
