AFTER ZEL MILLER'S SPEECH AT THE CONVENTION, HE HAD SEVERAL INTERVIEWS. ONE OF THESE WAS WITH CHRIS MATTHEWS HOST OF MSNBC'S "HARDBALL". MR. MILLER HAD STATED IN HIS SPEECH THAT JOHN KERRY WOULD USE "SPITBALLS" AS WEAPONS IN THE "WAR ON TERROR". MR. MATTHEWS QUESTIONED MILLER'S USE OF THE TERM AND ASKED MR. MILLER IF HE TRULY BELIEVED MR. KERRY WOULD USE "SPITBALLS" AS WEAPONS.
MR. MILLER INFORMED MR. MATTHEWS THAT HE WAS USING A METAPHOR. FURTHER QUESTIONING AND SOFT PROBING OF MR. MILLER'S SPEECH RESULTED IN AN UNBELIEVABLY ANGRY RANT BY MR. MILLER. MR. MILLER WENT TO THE POINT OF SAYING HE WISHED DUELLING WAS STILL LEGAL SO HE COULD CHALLENGE MR. MATTHEWS TO A DUEL AND - BY UINDENIABLE IMPLICATION - DO HIS BEST TO KILL MR. MATTHEWS.
IS THIS ONE OF THE FUNDAMENTAL FIBERS OF THE CORE OF THE CURRENT REPUBLICAN PARTY? WHEN PUSH COMES TO SHOVE, DOES THE REPUBLICAN PARTY BELIEVE THAT CHALLENGES THEY DO NOT LIKE CAN BE STOPPED BY KILLING THE CHALLENGERS? ZEL MILLER EXPRESSED WITH UNDENIABLE CLARITY THE PENALTY HE THOUGHT WOULD BE APPROPRIATE FOR MR. MATTHEWS WHEN HE, IN EFFECT, SAID HE WISHED HE COULD SHOOT HIM.
SUCH SELF-RIGHTEOUS POMPOSITY IS ALWAYS ONE OF THE PRIMARY ARTERIES DRIVING THE HEART OF ALL DICTITORIAL REGIMES. NEVER OPEN TO REVIEW, CRITISM, OR QUESTIONING BY ANY - EVER; TO DO SO IS TO INVITE DEATH. WHAT HAPPENED HERE? ARE MR. MILLER'S VIEWS THE VIEWS OF THE MAJORITY OF ALL REPUBLICANS? IS MR. MILLER ON THE FRINGE? ARE THE CORE OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY HAMMERING HOME A SENS OF "PATRIOTIC" NATIONALISM SO STRONG THAT IT CANNOT BEAR SCRUTINY OR REVIEW? THE DAY OUR GOVERNMENT AND POLITICAL PARTIES CANNOT AFFORD OPEN QUESTIONING BY THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY IS THE DAY DEMOCRACY DIES. IS THIS THE DIRECTION WE WANT TO GO? IS THIS THE DIRECTION THE CORE OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY ARE LEADING US? I WOULD THINK NOT; HOWEVER, AFTER LISTENING TO THE SEETHING ANGER AND BLATHERING RAGE OF MR. MILLER I MUST CONFESS I AM CONCERNED. CONCERNED NOT ONLY FOR MYSELF, BUT CONCERNED FOR AMERICANS, AMERICA, AND THE REST OF THE MEMBERS OF THE WORLD COMMUNITY.

Been on a university campus at any time in the last 35 years? And you are aware that people are going to jail in every country in the West for non-PC speech and print, aren't you?
Uh, riiight... Are you sure you're not confusing Kerry with Miller here? Go ahead, ask Kerry a question. Any question. He has a plan for America, he just can't tell us about it yet, we have to elect him to find out.
Question his service in Vietnam, merely ask a question, like how were you able to get early release after just 4 months when so many others served tour after tour. Prepare to be shouted down and called names. But not answered. Do you know any (other) Vets? Most are all too happy to share aspects of their service.
Ask a Democrat to explain anything, anything. They can't explain the 'why', merely shout in frustration, because they don't know themselves and don't understand.
The RNC was flooded with protestors, some of whom were arrested when they turned violent. The DNC? They let it be known that those who disagreed with them were not welcome. They had a barbed wire cage dubbed the 'Free Speech Zone', filmed by surveillance cameras. Is this how the 'new' Democrats deal with free speech and questions? With a gulag?
The next time a terrorist strikes against us, God forbid, should we wait to see what our French and German friends think, like school girls giggling over boyfriends in the lunchroom? Are not our Polish and British and Italian allies who stood with us when we were attacked on American soil just as important? When Democrats talk against the US involvement in Iraq, it is always 'without global support'. So only certain nations 'count'. When Saddam gassed thousands of his own countrymen in 1988, international outrage shouted to us to help, outraged at America for not helping. When we got into it a couple years later, with allies!, we were castigated because it was a Republican in office. When Clinton ordered the bombing of Kosovo against the directives of the UN, he was lauded for his 'diplomacy' and 'peace-keeping'. Should we wait for unanimous approval, because that's never going to happen. Are you suggesting that questioning Republicans invites death? Really? Next time take the whole pill.

I'm glad you straightened me out. Of course I never participated in anything like that. And I didn't throw toilet paper wads on the ceiling in the bathroom.
Of course there was that little deal with locking all the stalls but that only happened about 52 times. And I did get snatched off the playground for fighting the boys, the nuns didn't think it was too ladylike.
That is MOST impressive.
