SOUTH DAKOTA: GOP Poll Puts Thune At The Magic 50 Mark
Hotline ^ | 8/31/04

A Public Opinion Strategies (R) poll, conducted 8/24-26 for the NRSC, surveyed 500 likely voters; margin of error +/- 4.4% (NRSC release, 8/31). Tested: Sen. Tom Daschle (D) and '02 GOP nominee John Thune.

General Election Matchup All Fav/Unfav Thune 50% 62%/29% Daschle 48 61 /35 DK/Other 2

Pollster Glen Bolger: "In the nearly two months since he has gone on the air, Thune has closed the gap, even in the midst of a challenging national political climate. John Thune's message of independence and standing up for [SD] values has reminded voters why they like him, and has translated into a strong showing on the ballot test" (release, 8/31).

I never really understood why they didn't.

Here's my explanation:

American voters HATE sore losers. No quicker way to end a political career than to become one.

Thune knew this and took the gracious loser role knowing he could come back and fight another day.

His political base was rock-solid...he had won his previous statewide congressional races by huge margins.

Looks to me like he's turning out to have been pretty darned smart.

Anybody remember a race with so few undecided voters this far away from election day?

New Poll: Thune 50%, Daschle 48%

This is not enough of a lead to counter the resurrected Daschle dead voters, double voter fraud and indian fraud that is going to take place.

Besides all that, haven't you seen Daschle's new TV ad? Daschle is so supportive and loved by President Bush he is hugging him! I mean it MUST be true, I saw it on TV.

Mr. Thune and his supporters had better work very hard and keep their eyes open for voter fraud or they will lose... again.

Isn't it ironic, that all of Dashle's dirty tricks to keep himself majority leader, may end up being the cause of his own demise by setting him up with a real opponent?

Ironic indeed.

SD is a heavily GOP state. No one has any doubts about who is going to gain their whopping 3 electoral votes.

It is also a VERY patriotic state...with a very large number of veterans.

The Dems holding both Senate seats is an anomaly...one that has to right itself eventually. I think this is the time.

South Dakotans are very aware of Daschle's obstructionist tactics during this 6 year term he is finishing up.

Dascle knows the Kerry meltdown out in the wheat fields is a big danger to him. That is why he is running ads, not only wrapping himself in the American flag, but also in the arms of Bush.

Tommy has already spent over 10 million dollars. Thune has yet to hit it hard. Good news as long as you keep the voting on the up and up.

NOBODY in SD is going to believe Little Tommy and President Bush and Little Tommy are good friends no matter how many times he hugs Bush. Tommy, you are SOOOO OVER!

Daschle: one of the most despicable human beings I've ever had the misfortune to see in action. He must hate America to the very core of his being. I'll bet once he's defeated, he'll join his crooked wife in becomeing a crooked lobbyest who will never set foot in South Dakota again. Why should he? He's used the dumb voters in SD for decades now, and now that they're no longer of use to him, why live among them? I can't afford it, but I'm contributing to Thune.

Me neither, but what's done is done. Look at it this way... if Thune HAD been elected in '02, we wouldn't have a very strong candidate to take on Daschle this year. I'd rather see Daschle gone than Tim Johnson, wouldn't you?

do not know why a large number of Freepers, who may otherwise be fine folk, have such a major problem in placing numbers in a readily discernable form.

I agree. In this case it was very simple by using the <pre> and </pre> HTML tags.
