Protesters at Home of Swift Boat Backer
Associated Press ^ | 28 August 2004 | KRISTEN HAYS

NASSAU BAY, Texas - Nearly 40 protesters gathered Saturday at the home of the chief financial backer of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, whose ads criticize Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites)'s military record.

Bob J. Perry didn't appear to be at his suburban Houston home and didn't answer three doorbell rings by several veterans wanting to hand-deliver a letter asking him to stop supporting the group.

"We deeply resent what he's doing to the veterans," said Richard Zaner, 70, a Korean War veteran who lives in the same suburb as Perry, a wealthy homebuilder.

Kerry supporters chanted "Hey, hey, ho, ho, your stinkin' ad has got to go." A Nassau Bay policeman was parked nearby.

Bill Miller, Perry's spokesman, said this week that Perry provided at least $100,000 to help found the group at the request of his friend John O'Neill, a Houston lawyer who co-wrote a book questioning Kerry's military record. Miller also said that Perry, who doesn't grant interviews, was in Mexico this week.

The ads challenged Kerry's Vietnam service for which he received five medals. The ads said Kerry didn't deserve his Purple Hearts, lied to get his Bronze Star and Silver Star and unfairly branded all veterans with his 1971 congressional testimony about atrocities in Vietnam.

The Kerry campaign rebutted the ads with Navy records and witnesses who served with him. Kerry contends the group is a front for President Bush (news - web sites)'s re-election campaign. Bush denounced the ads Monday after they were no longer on the air.

"Hey, hey, ho, ho, your stinkin' ad has got to go."

These jerks just guaranteed a quarter million dollar SBVT contribution from Perry.

I would never consider freeping anyone's home, unless of course it is a publicly-paid property, and the occupant is a sore loser who needs to be motivated to leave for the benefit of the next duly-elected occupant. Barring that, it's an invasion and in very bad form.

Ah yes, there is a difference, I gladly stand corrected.

This guy is a contractor. If he wanted to, he could pick up the phone and there would be 100 big burly construction workers there in minutes.

He's probably laughing his a$$ off at the antics of these creeps.

Everyone needs a large guard dog named "Fang" to send out to greet these types when they show up at the door. I'm sure given their politics they're animal lovers and any dog named Fang would probably love to interact with them.

What is it with liberals and their hey hey ho ho chears? Can't think ever think of anything else? If you are going to be annoying, at least try to be creative.

That is what I was wondering.....what records? We know about the "witnesses" who served with him, and the after action reports Kerry wrote himself, but just what records were released? Haven't heard of any!

People like this earn a living by being anti-war. It's a whole industry! The irony is, they almost wish for war so they can protest and feed themselves.

It's really sick.

Touche. Opps that's en Francais, I mean en Kerrey. You're from the Volunteer state. I should have said "Damn Bubba, ya got me."

In all seriousness, I would participate a tax protest. I was actually in Nashville (well, sorta Nashville) during that time and remember cheering y'all on.

I didn't think you slopped hawgs, I thought you beat them on the football field (unless you're a Vandy that is).

He has also backtracked on the 3rd PH and now his Silver Star citation has been revised to remove the "V"device and former Sec. Of the Navy Lehman has said he did NOT write the citation that Kerry has on his website.

If Kerry should win, I'm expecting an IRS audit or some such thing. It will be either that or creation of FBI investigations & dossiers, shades of Hoover.
