Protesters at Home of Swift Boat Backer
Associated Press ^ | 28 August 2004 | KRISTEN HAYS

NASSAU BAY, Texas - Nearly 40 protesters gathered Saturday at the home of the chief financial backer of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, whose ads criticize Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites)'s military record.

Bob J. Perry didn't appear to be at his suburban Houston home and didn't answer three doorbell rings by several veterans wanting to hand-deliver a letter asking him to stop supporting the group.

"We deeply resent what he's doing to the veterans," said Richard Zaner, 70, a Korean War veteran who lives in the same suburb as Perry, a wealthy homebuilder.

Kerry supporters chanted "Hey, hey, ho, ho, your stinkin' ad has got to go." A Nassau Bay policeman was parked nearby.

Bill Miller, Perry's spokesman, said this week that Perry provided at least $100,000 to help found the group at the request of his friend John O'Neill, a Houston lawyer who co-wrote a book questioning Kerry's military record. Miller also said that Perry, who doesn't grant interviews, was in Mexico this week.

The ads challenged Kerry's Vietnam service for which he received five medals. The ads said Kerry didn't deserve his Purple Hearts, lied to get his Bronze Star and Silver Star and unfairly branded all veterans with his 1971 congressional testimony about atrocities in Vietnam.

The Kerry campaign rebutted the ads with Navy records and witnesses who served with him. Kerry contends the group is a front for President Bush (news - web sites)'s re-election campaign. Bush denounced the ads Monday after they were no longer on the air.

Do you resent what John Kerry did to the veterans, Dick?

Free speech is just for the left. I'll bet most of them are also union thugs.

Pure desperation. The SBVs have raised almost 2 million in small donations since Perry helped prime the pump.

Gee, do you think they've been to George Soros's house yet to protest? What about Piggie Moore?

I know people can get a PFA against a spouse or boy/girl friend, but can something like that be obtained without specifically naming someone?

I don't want to think about how I'd feel nor react if a crowd of 'people' showed up at my house and it was for nothing more than harrassment.

Harrassment is harrassment. Do individuals need to be named?

Sounds like a mob of book burning anarchists. These people do have a right to disagree, but have no right to engage in intimidation. A man's home is his castle.

I say "Come to my home and I can find somewhere between 22 and 357 reasons why your right of disagreement has been superceeded by my right to speak..

Uniform worn by members of the SA (Storm Troopers), the vicious street fighters of the Nazi party. This particular uniform was the type worn by a "troop leader" from Brandenburg near Berlin. The SA played an important role in Hitler's rise to power (1933), the boycott (1933), and the "Night of Broken Glass" pogrom (1938) in Germany. They were known as "Brownshirts" because of the color of their uniforms. They specialized in political intimidation, thuggery, and ruthless suppression of opposing political views.

Hay Brown Shirt Socialist Communist Lovers, I spit on you. No go away!

If you think Kerry is telling the truth, have him sign the Form 180 and release his Military Records. If he won't sign the Form, he has somehting to hide! PROVE Kerry deserves to be Commander - In - Chief by having him sign Form 180, until he does you have NO RIGHT to protest!

Where are our Conservative protesters?

There are so many Kerry backers that the home of any one of them should be easy to find.

Besides Soros there's Bob Bauer, Ellen Malcome, Harold Ickes, all the guys from Moveon.org, etc., etc.

If the Liberals are going to do "house calls" to Conserative backers, then they can't complain when their people get the same treatment.

So, where are OUR guys?
