NASSAU BAY, Texas - Nearly 40 protesters gathered Saturday at the home of the chief financial backer of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, whose ads criticize Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites)'s military record.
Bob J. Perry didn't appear to be at his suburban Houston home and didn't answer three doorbell rings by several veterans wanting to hand-deliver a letter asking him to stop supporting the group.
"We deeply resent what he's doing to the veterans," said Richard Zaner, 70, a Korean War veteran who lives in the same suburb as Perry, a wealthy homebuilder.
Kerry supporters chanted "Hey, hey, ho, ho, your stinkin' ad has got to go." A Nassau Bay policeman was parked nearby.
Bill Miller, Perry's spokesman, said this week that Perry provided at least $100,000 to help found the group at the request of his friend John O'Neill, a Houston lawyer who co-wrote a book questioning Kerry's military record. Miller also said that Perry, who doesn't grant interviews, was in Mexico this week.
The ads challenged Kerry's Vietnam service for which he received five medals. The ads said Kerry didn't deserve his Purple Hearts, lied to get his Bronze Star and Silver Star and unfairly branded all veterans with his 1971 congressional testimony about atrocities in Vietnam.
The Kerry campaign rebutted the ads with Navy records and witnesses who served with him. Kerry contends the group is a front for President Bush (news - web sites)'s re-election campaign. Bush denounced the ads Monday after they were no longer on the air.
That explains why the Kerry campaign has already backpedaled on at least two of the issues, Cambodia and the 1st PH. Also, this must be why Sec Lehman doesn't know how his sig got put on Kerry's Silver Star re-do cert.

Maybe, but Korean War ended 51 years ago last month . . I guess there were a few teenagers in it, but not many. Lot of people claim to be vets of one war or another when it suits their purposes. BTW I write as a "Korean veteran" 1951-53 and I was not a teenager.

This mob of protestors is a bunch of terrorists. Attempts to intimidate a man in his own home and threaten his family and neighbors has to be met with the swift hand of the law. if the law does not respond, then self defense becomes the only legitimate response to the terrorists at the front door.
It's just like Rush said the other day - the Left is doing everything to win this election and nothing is working. We're still in the lead and it's driving them crazy. They're gonna be dumbfounded when they've done all they could and still lose.
Plural? The only veteran the ads talk about is John Kerry. Oh, yeah, he does qualify as at least two veterans---the war hero and the war criminal.

I wonder if the protesters obtained a permit. If one is required, they broke more than one law. To trespass on Perry's property shows a complete lack of class as well as group stupidity. The protesters prove that: "when all think alike, no one thinks very much."
