NEW YORK - This morning, John Kerry used New York City as the launching pad for his latest rounds of attack on President Bush and urged the GOP to abandon the negative attacks of "fear and smear" and to return to the debate on issues.

However, it is clear from a reported phone call that Kerry participated in Sunday evening that Kerry sees that the discontentment of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth as fundamentally non-related to the Bush campaign.

Kerry reportedly placed a call to Robert Brant (Ret.) Commander, United States Navy. Brant had skippered boats #96 and #36 and spent time with Kerry in An Thoi. According to reports Brant used to put Kerry back to bed when he would be caught sleepwalking.

In a world-wide exclusive broken by Internet journalist Matt Drudge, Kerry clearly asks a Swift Boat Veteran who is critical of him - what he did?

Kerry is on record as having directly accused the Bush campaign of being behind the SBVT.

Bush ought to tell Kerry: "As John Kerry knows, there is a lot more evidence showing a direct link between Saddam and al Qaeda, and that Saddam had active an active nuclear weapons program, than there is showing a connection between my campaign and the Swift Boat Veterans."

Interesting. Bush by in large ignored the $62 million in negative attacks on him - other than the one ad where the Hitler comparison was brought up, and Kerry quickly dismissed as not associated with his campaign.

Kerry is trying desperately - and failing - to tie the Swifties to the Bush campaign. I think the Kerry approach is validating the message.

My conclusion being - half the people in the US would vote for Daffy Duck if he were running as a Democrat.

Since Kerry testified that he committed war crimes, but now says that the other Swift Boat personnel did not, shouldn't he be tried for his individual war crimes? All military forces prosecute personnel who deviate from the accepted code of conduct.
