Presidential candidate John Kerry telephoned former Sen. Bob Dole Monday morning to complain about Dole's demand a day earlier that he apologize to Vietnam veterans for protesting the war, the one-time Republican presidential candidate revealed Monday afternoon."John Kerry called me this morning, which surprised me," Dole told radio host Sean Hannity. "He said he was very disappointed, we'd been friends. I said John, we're still friends, but [the Swiftvets] have first amendment rights, just as your people have first amendment rights.
Dole told Kerry, "I'm not trying to stir anything up, but I don't believe everyone of these people who have talked about what happened are Republican liars.
"And very frankly, Bush is my guy, and I'm tired of people on your side calling him everything from a coward to a traitor to everything - a deserter."
Dole said he urged Kerry, "Why don't you call George Bush today and say, 'Mr. President, let's stop all this stuff about the National Guard and Vietnam - and let's talk about the issues."
Dole said Kerry responded, "I haven't spent one dime attacking President Bush."
But the Republican war hero shot back, "You don't have to. You've got all the so-called mainstream media, plus you've got MoveOn.org. and all these other groups that have spent millions and millions of dollars trying to tarnish Bush's image."
"Don't tell me you don't know what some of these people are doing," he told Kerry.
"Everybody like quiet heroes," Dole added, saying he told Kerry, "John, everybody knows you were in Vietnam and the less you say about it, the better."
Dole said he tried to end the tense conversation cordially by telling Kerry, "I wish you good luck, up to a point."
I liked it better before your correction!!!!!!!!!!
Why didn't Bob Dole campaign against Clinton with the same kahunas?
Maybe it's just what has gotten into the rest of us, and that is a huge amount of anger and frustration over the last year or so, watching Rats and their surrogates compare President Bush to Hitler, accuse him of knowing about 9/11 in advance and doing nothing about it so his buddies who own Halliburton stock could see their portfolios swell, call him a war criminal and a mass murderer, accuse him of rounding up innocent civilians and herding them off to concentration camps, and on and on and on and on. This garbage has been going on forever, with hardly a peep from the White House and stone-deaf silence from his so-called colleagues in the House and especially the Senate, and the media has delightedly lapped it all up and amplified it and crowned it as the "truth."
So someone finally decides to hit back, putting up less than $1 million in ad buys against $60+ million spent by the Rats' cronies, and they screech and squeal like stuck pigs and the media suddenly decides that these 527s are "bad for our democracy." And John Kerry actually has the audacity to whine to Bob Dole for calling him on this, and then just to add more insult to injury, he sanctimoniously proclaims he has never attacked George Bush. And he says this even though it's as obvious as day to anyone with any intelligence that there isn't even a revolving door between the Kerry campaign and the leaderships of these leftist 527s - it's more like a 10-lane expressway directly connecting them.
If anything, Dole was too kind by far to Kerry - if there were any justice in this world Kerry would dragged into a public square someplace and flogged to within an inch of his life for what he did to our veterans in 1971, and especially for what he's doing to them again to satiate his lust for power at any cost.
bumpity! bumpity! bumpity!
Maybe you should call Bob Dole for a pep talk.
Freeper N. Theknow says:
"Its faster than a checkbook, more powerful than a Democratic demagogue, able to lay waste to a liar Kerry with the single click of a mouse. It's a little bird of truth, it's plain to see Kerry's unfit... it's... it's...SuperFReep!

Do not buy the media spin. W statement came down against non-advertising activities of 527's. Advertising is only part of this battle.
LOL! Too little too late, as the RATs are saying about the president's denouncement of the swift boat vets' ads. Kerry is a disgusting, opportunistic son of a b***h with the class of a sewer RAT and the morals of an alley cat.
You're not a poker player, are you?
God bless Bob Dole. The media wouldn't report this in a zillion years.
No, McCain's already too much of a d***.
I think that was a nice way to tell Kerry to STFU.
GO BOB DOLE!!!
This is great. I am glad he is telling Kerry like it is. It's about time, someone is.
The Dems spent a year and a half calling Bush a liar, comparing him to Hitler, attacking Bush's service record, and so on, and so on, and now when someone dares to use their First Amendment rights to tell the truth about Kerry, he gets all bent out of shape.
The Swifties are really hurting Kerry. Go Swifties!

Amen to that.
True, but what they probably will do is start attacking Dole's service record, just like they did in 1996.
"Too bad Dole didn't get this riled up in 1996... he might be sitting in the White House today, nearing the end of his 8 years in office."
Exactly! It's time the Republicans take off the gloves when dealing with the Democrats.
It's cool to see a master of the art in action.
I've always had the sense that while Americans were perhaps not particularly enthusiastic about a Dole presidency, they've always maintained a great deal of respect for him. He's always played (it appeared to me anyways) above the most radioactive partisan displays.
A sleeper if this gets legs, maybe.
I finally was able to make a contribution this evening, in Honor of Bob Dole!Bless you !! And Bob Dole, too !! :^D
