Kerry, on the other hand, may have done more than Dole to qualify as a genuine war hero

This will only backfire on the Democrats. It appears Bob Dole isn't taking this cheapshot lightly.
Walking the plank is a time honored tradition. Kerry's plank in his presidential campaign has been his VN service. I urge Senator Kerry to walk the plank.
n
I figured it would come to this (attacking Dole unnecessarily). Next thing you know, they'll start unloading their smear on Bush 41.
I didn't see MTP at all this morning or evening, so I am going to record MTP at 1am ET on CNBC. Apparently the left in this country doesn't want to talk about the issues. Buncha hypocrites! They seem interested in dragging this country through every single war of the 20th Century which we've fought in again, but when it comes to questioning Kerry over something that happend 30-odd years ago, they say "we're not interested in what happend 30-odd years ago".
Interesting, isn't it, that Oliphant neglects to mention that his daughter works for Kerry as a speech writer?
Yes. They are lashing out in every direction right now. They may even land a few blows.
But it doesn't matter. Dole isn't running for office. The swiftvets aren't running for office.
Thus, they are "off message."
Moreover, they can't very well get traction for Senator Kerry as a "war hero" during the same timeframe that they are smearing war heroes such as Dole, POWS, and veterans such as the swiftvets.
So relax. Keep in mind what I've been saying since mid 2003: "This election is about more than merely winning. We're also going to burn the fat cat Dem donors as well as slime the current mainstream media irreparably."
Right now the Kerry Campaign has had their first chance at bat. They've managed only a tie game nationally, and they are already behind in most or all of the 38 states that Bush won back in 2000 (more than he needs to re-win in '04).
They've selected their VP candidate. They've had their convention. They've run countless editorials and spammed newspapers with their form letter. They've had their talking heads on every show that would take them. They've even outspent Republicans in ads for every month until July.
Now from here on out it is our turn at bat. From now on we will run more ads than them. We will hold our Convention. We will announce policy after policy and build on our existing achievement after achievement.
...And while we're out saving the world, boosting American prosperity, and running the country...the Dems are still going to be floundering, held back by their own lack of vision, their own tortured past, swiftvets, their own self-contradictions, their own voting records, their own tax records, their own military records, their absenteeism, their elitism, their near-infinite vacations, as well as by the positions that they've taken on various issues over the years.
Dem donors, told from Day One that this election would be "close", aren't going to be pleased with the November outcome. They will, in short, be burned. The big donations by the fatcats, the 527's, the celebrities, all will be for naught.
The current mainstream media, caught in lies that stretch back forever: bogus polls that showed Bustamante ahead of Schwarzenegger by 19 points, McBride ahead of Jeb Bush by 6 points, Kerry "tied" with Bush in Florida...caught not only lying, but also slamming characters (e.g. swiftvets, Dole, etc.) and insulating the Kerry's for far too long (the msm hadn't even asked for Mrs. Heinz-Kerry's tax returns before this campaign)...will find that the Public has lost faith in them. The news media knew that McGreevy was on the take and in the closet, but didn't inform the Public. The news media knew that Nixon wasn't President and that the Khmer Rouge didn't exist in 1968, but didn't remind the Public.
Moreover, we've got some tricks up our sleeve that we'll only play if need be. The above alone should give a taste for precisely how we will deliver all three of our goals this year. The current mainstream media will be forever tarnished. Fatcat Dem donors will feel burned.
...And the same Heartland states that delivered in 2000 will again win the election for President Bush. It isn't even remotely feasible that two East Coast, left-wing, elitist attorneys would change that equation, either.
5 Legislative Days Left Until The AWB Expires
Sent him a very short note....
"ONeil consulted with Nixon.
Kerry consulted with the Viet Cong.
Now everyone knows, and your meltdown was exquisite.
LMAO"
This just keeps getting better and the meltdowns just keep getting messier. Gotta love it :~)
what minds would those be?
Dole may not have been able to win the presidency, but he's one of the most respected and well-liked Republicans out there. And I've already seem some Democratic propaganda on another site smearing him besides this article. The libs attack Dole at their peril here.
Your paper writes: "Imagine if supporters of Bill Clinton had tried in 1996 to besmirch the military record of his opponent, Bob Dole." Well, you can speculate all you want, because it never would have happened. Bob Dole never bragged about his military service, his debilitating injury, or the medals he'd won during the war. And unlike John Kerry, Bob Dole didn't come back home and accuse his Brothers in uniform of war atrocities.
John Kerry isn't running on his 19 years in the Senate...he's running away from it. The only thing Kerry has left to run on is his lousy four months in Vietnam. If Senator Kerry didn't want to be questioned about his military history, then he shouldn't have made it the cornerstone of his campaign, nor base his qualifications to be Commander in Chief on the time he spent in uniform.
Senator Kerry can make this all go away. All he has to do is sign Form 180 and have ALL his military records opened to the public. Doesn't anyone find it rather strange that a man who touts his heroism and medals during the Vietnam War won't let anyone see the full records detailing his actions? He won't release his military records. He won't release his medical records. He won't release his wife's tax returns, but he wants us to elect him to the highest office in this nation?
I might have been born at night, but Senator, I wasn't born last night.
It's pretty obvious that Kerry had a lot of spare time on his hands to make home movies, keep a lengthy journal of his musings on Vietnam, and practice his creative writing techniques while penning all those after action reports.
I'm still not convinced he had any in the first place. I've decided Kerry has always been a eunuch.
Something tells me this isn't as low as they will go. These folks can be very scummy in their behavior. I'm guessing the worst is yet to come. Terrayzah calling Bush twins drunken (like their dad) sluts, perhaps? Hey, it wouldn't surprise me.....
Rather than seeking debate, however, this group, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, is attempting political assassination, claiming in ads and a best-selling book that Kerry is "Unfit for Command." In many cases the charges conflict with statements the same men made in the past. Sometimes the allegations contradict documentary evidence. Last week a former swift boat commander, Larry Thurlow, said Kerry didn't deserve his Bronze Star because there was no enemy fire at the time, but this is contradicted by five separate accounts -- including the Bronze Star citation Thurlow himself was awarded in the same incident, as reported by The Washington Post.He doesn't get the dam* difference. KERRY has made his 17 weeks in VietNam the CORNERSTONE of his campaign. It is he that chooses to do that rather than run on his POLITICAL records, in which he was AWOL for much of, especially the last few years!
Keep up the heat, Swiftees!!
#1. Bush, like Kerry, did volunteer to go to Vietnam.
#2. Kerry never joined the "regular military"; he was a member of the Naval Reserves. I wouldn't be surprised if he put in less time than did Bush.
Kerry, on the other hand, may have done more than Dole to qualify as a genuine war hero. Although his tour in Vietnam was short, on at least two occasions he acted decisively and with great daring in combat, saving at least one man's life and earning both a Silver Star and a Bronze Star.
The Bravo Sierra is getting deep! Kerry's valor: pulling a guy out of the drink after he put him there when he bugged out at flank speed, deserting his team mates; and, shooting a wounded teen in the back. I'm proud to say that no one ever accused Bob Dole of bugging out, and that Bob Doles is no backshooter.
A renewed debate on that war might be useful, though we believe most Americans now agree with Kerry's famous statement to Congress at the time that it was a mistake.
Many Americans believe Vietnam was a mistake because we lost. Kerry played a key role in that loss by providing aid and comfort to the enemy. Not exactly an honorable way to find yourself on the "right side" of an issue.
While a few details and dates of Kerry's Vietnam record are open to question, most of the accusations are laughable. Kerry's record of service in Vietnam is clear and, one would think, unassailable. Given the contrast in their Vietnam-era records -- Bush even let his pilot's license lapse while still in the Guard -- Bush might be expected to change the subject.
If details and dates of Kerry's Nam record are open to question, his record is, by definition, unclear and assailable. Don't point out that Bush allowed his flight certification to expire after the mission of his unit was changed from flying F-102s to flying trainers--toward the end of his service. It would have made no sense for the military to retrain him to fly another plane. Duh!
Both parties do it [the Big Lie], but Republicans are developing a shocking expertise. The smearing of John McCain in South Carolina in 2000, the reprehensible attack to oust Senator Max Cleland of Georgia in 2002, and this utterly cynical campaign against Kerry by Bush's False Squad deserve only condemnation.
What happened to McCain in 2000? What was the reprehesible attack on Clcland in 2002? How is Bush involved with the SBVT? Is there one or more liberal Big Lies here?
Kerry has faulted a few of his own supporters who lampooned Bush's National Guard record. Now Bush should call off his dogs.
#1. Kerry faulted a few of his own supporters, late in the game, only because he knew his record couldn't withstand similar scrutiny--as we're finding out. Bush, in the act of an honest man, released all his records. Kerry, as the cad he is, won't even think about releasing his.
#2. It would be illegal for Bush to interfere with SBVT. Besides, Bush isn't an arrogant elitist who is going to try to censor brave veterans from telling their stories. Finally, the Swiftees would disregard any request from Bush to shut up. It's clear that the Swiftees are on a search and destroy mission, and they are used to accomplishing their missions.
Great post, as usual, but didn't President Bush win 30 states, not 38?
Hi Howlin; Hope you are well..Great post I guess Kerry was against going to Vietnam before he was for going to Vietnam-this guy is such a liar.
How about the smearing of George HW Bush's record by the Clintonistas? Can't find the exact article but the NY Daily News had a COVER STORY questioning his bailout of his plane in WWII. Here is just an example. Maybe other FReepers can find a better example.
Thanks for the link. I noticed this title at the end of the novels: 'For Us, The Living'. Published in 2004 but written in 1938. I wonder if that's worth taking a look at?
Some did.
Dang, it's pretty bad when you can't get past the first line of an editorial without a bogus talking point.
