O'Neill Dares Kerry: 'Sue Me'

Swiftboat Veterans for the Truth spokesman John O'Neill dared Sen. John Kerry on Sunday to sue him for libel if, as Kerry's presidential campaign maintains, key claims in O'Neill's book "Unifit for Command" are not true.

"I invite him to sue me for libel," O'Neill, who co-authored the overnight bestseller with Jerome Corsi, told WABC Radio's Monica Crowley. "If he was actually in Cambodia on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day he should sue me. If, in fact, those other five [Swift]boats, on March the 13, [1969], if they all fled like he did, instead of staying like he knows they did, he should sue me."

O'Neill continued:

"If he didn't wound himself with a grenade - causing sort of a rice-fanny wound - and then reported it to the Navy as a water mine - if he didn't do that on March 13th should sue me."

O'Neill issued the challenge after noting that Kerry's campaign has gone to extraordinary lengths to supress the information in "Unfit for Command."

"On our first [Swiftvet] ad, he had two huge lawfirms send letters to every [TV] station, threatening to sue the stations themselves" if they ran the ad, the former Swiftboat commander told Crowley.

"The next thing he did was challenge the book's publisher, Regnery, indicating he would sue them if they continued printing the book," he added.

The bestselling author said that while Regnery declined to stop printing "Unfit," it offered to republish Kerry's 1971 book "The New Soldier," which chronicles the top Democrat's anti-war protests with a group bankrolled by Jane Fonda.

Kerry has declined to have "New Solidier" republished over the years and reportedly bought up most of the available copies in 1972, after his opponent in a congressional race used it to paint him as anti-American.

Mediocre? You've got to be kidding. The Swifties have been awesome and continue to be. If you ideas are so much better, make some of your own ads and put them on TV. Sheesh.

>>>Is there any chance that a copy of "The New Soldier" can be located, scanned to text, and put online?

I just surfed for a download. No good. I will have to look for a hard copy at my library tomorrow.

Thanks for putting words in my mouth -- I never said that Kerry hasn't been nasty. The Dems have been much, much worse, with Michael Moore, George Soros, "Bush is Hitler", etc., etc. In any event, since you are now calling me names, I wish you good day, ma'am.

Sue? Not a chance. The SBV's have to quit advertising after Sept. 2, IIRC, but a lawsuit would keep this in front of the news for the foreseeable future. Kerry is trapped.

Your right, Kerry is stalling waiting for the time the SBV's have to stop advertising. But Kerry isn't trapped. If he was a republican he would be trapped. The mainstream media has already shown they don't care about the truth when it could hurt a democrat. With the GOP convention coming up Kerry can ride this out for 11 more days easy. Yes a lot of damage has been done to Kerry's campaign but he will not quit. For every real person around him telling he to get out of the race he probably has three imaginary people telling he to stay in. And of course Kerry still might be able to overcome all this and win with some help from massive rat fraud.

Hmmmm? I don't think it's that easy to "withdraw" from a major lawsuit like that. Isn't there ususally some penalty if you withdraw ..??

I don't think you can file papers, take up the court's time, and then just say .. oh forget it, I've changed my mind and I don't want to do this?

Tell your mom to stop watching the mainstream media because they are liberal/Kerry enablers. Even if for a week. It will change her attitude.

Picture this:

O'Neill on the stand. Kerry at the table and Edwards... Edwards... in the middle of the courtroom... channeling the spirit of some long departed Vietnamese girl who witnessed the brave heroics of John Kerry and who uses Edwards to spread the truth and to pass along her only wish... her wish that every American vote for Kerry like a good communist should!

Oh my.

O'Neill is a much smarter man than Podesta.

Chris Wallace did a fair job of discrediting him on Fox today, I thought O'Neill would have better answers.

Of course he lit into the Kerry stooge pretty hard as well.

Perfect. For Kerry to prove Libel, he has to prove O'Neill is lying. That means opening up all the records. Bring on the discovery and interrogatories

Didn't I read on another thread that O'Neill graduated first in his class at the University of Texas Law School. He's no dummy.

Wow! Podesta is considered a BIG GUN! If Podesta cannot stand up to O'Neill .. Kerry is in really really big trouble.

RE: Unan Sanctam Another R too sensitive to even want to hear the truth. And then they say, well BOTH sides are being mean. I guess they would want us to allow lies and attacks from the others dies, because to fight back would be unseemly. In light of the backbone of these SwiftVets, who are laying down their futures for US, it is disappointing and unseemly behavior.

Well, somebody is willing to pay a hefty sum for Kerry's book on eBay. Maybe Kerry should reconsider - his book seems to be in demand.

I think the Swift Vets should focus more on the Senate testimony (blanket accusation of war crimes) and the Cambodia discrepancy.

You don't think that's next? Tell your mom to stop watching TV talking heads telling her what she feels, you might try that, too.

The guys and gals at Regnery are exceptionally cool under fire, aren't they?

Well, ok, it's just one of them cork-and-string pop guns, but they're still a scream.

About 1-2 weeks ago there were 3 copies of Kerrey's book available from private parties via amazon.com. If they're still there, check out the asking prices.
