The Kerry campaign just keeps coming with attack after attack on the Swifties. He calls them Republican activist and Bush cronies, but what about MoveOn.org? They attack Bush all the time with nary a whimper from the President. Perhaps he is thicker skinned? In any case lets look at these two 527s, info courtesy of opensecrets.org:
OpenSecrets.org's description:
Begun in 1998 to protest the impeachment of President Clinton, the group has become a powerful political force since then. Its political action committee, the MoveOn PAC, spends millions of dollars to support the election of Democratic candidates. The MoveOn.org Voter Fund is raising soft money, which may be contributed in unlimited amounts, for TV ads in key battleground states that are critical of President Bush.
Oh, but wait. Soros also decided to donate to John Kerry! According to the OpenSecrets.org donor look-up he donated $2000 to the Kerry Campaign. Remember, however, that Soros is a Liberal and is not allowed scrutiny in his donations. Only Conservatives or people who support Bush are culpable.
Looking at the Swifties now:
OpenSecrets.org's description:
SBVT represents Vietnam Swift boat veterans who are critical of Democrat John Kerry's decision to make his military service a major part of his campaign for president. The group questions Kerry's record in Vietnam and denounces his anti-war activities following his military service. The group's donors include some major Republican contributors.
Yeah, they are the big bullies here. The issue is that Kerry can only attack the Swifties by saying they are associated with Bush, and in the end it won't work. Bush's connection to the Swift Boat Vets is the same as Kerry's to the MoveOn.org group. Kerry cannot prove a connection, and in the end it won't matter. His only defense is to attack the issues raised, and he will do no so thing.
Another thing to look at is the top 10 donors to 527 Committees. You'd expect huge rich rich rich Republicans to fill the top but you'd be wrong. Here they are:

8 out of 10 also donated to Kerry, the max of $2000. The rest they are pouring into 527's, for some odd reason...
Yeah, those 527 have NOTHING to do with helping Kerry.
Also see this:
"In September 2002, the (Kerry) campaign hired Chris Black, a former CNN reporter, to serve as Heinz's chief of communications."
http://slate.msn.com/id/2092399/
And this:
"In late January Heinz Kerry told Cox News Service reporter Bob Dart that she would not give up financial control of the Heinz foundations if her husband became president. Said Heinz Kerry: "I don't make money in my office. I give it away."
And give it away, she does. Heinz foundation grants pay for groups sponsoring thinly disguised anti-business drives and partisan political campaigns. The most important group is the League of Conservation Voters (2001 revenue--$2.3 million), a political advocacy group that monitors office-holder voting records, coordinates issue campaigns, and mobilizes voters.
LCV also sponsors a separate segregated fund, the LCV Action Fund, which contributes to political campaigns. It is registered with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) as a so-called 527 group, which (under Section 527(h) of the U.S. Tax Code) can make independent expenditures on behalf of political candidates. The FEC ranks "LCV Political Action Committee" in its Top 50 PAC Receipts--1999-2000 as Number 41 with $2,080,304.
In January 2004, at the very start of the primary season, the national LCV formally endorsed John Kerry for President. By late January, LCV had also given $18,528 directly to the Kerry Campaign. By mid-February, League political director Mark Longabaugh said the group had spent "six figures" on TV ads promoting Kerry's candidacy. By contrast, in 2000 LCV waited until April before endorsing Al Gore, whose environmental reputation was far greater than Kerry's.
When the New York Post asked Longabaugh whether Heinz money was behind LCV's early Kerry support, it got a non-denial denial. Longabaugh said none of Kerry's early 2004 LCV funding came from his wife, but he admitted that from 1993 to 2001 LCV received $57,300 from the Heinz Family Foundation, including a $2,500 personal contribution in 2000 from Teresa Heinz. He asserted that Sen. Kerry received LCV's endorsement because of his stellar 96% LCV voting score. Gore's score had averaged 63% over eight years in the House and 73% over eight years in the Senate.
So who contributed to jumpstart LCV funding for the Kerry campaign? FEC records for the 2004 election cycle show that 166 donors, many of them close Heinz friends and colleagues, contributed $459,680 to the LCV as of mid-February 2004."

Thanks...
And this:
"John Kerry's Chinese Campaign Connections... So Chung arranged for a meeting in Kerry's office on Capitol Hill for his guests, including Ms. Liu, sometime in the last week of July -- he doesnt have the date. It was a 10-minute meeting. Kerry agreed to fax a request to SEC asking that they meet with the group. Chung watched as Kerry's office faxed the letter. Within weeks, things began to happen. In the first week of August, Ms. Liu wired $300,000 to Chung's Hong Kong bank account. On August 15, Chung has told investigators he moved $80,000 from Hong Kong to his California Federal account in Los Angeles, transactions that show up on Chung bank records obtained by NBC News. On September 9, Chung hosted a Beverly Hills party for Kerry. The price of admission: $2,000 a person -- the maximum anyone can give to an individual Senate candidate. And what was the ultimate source of the money? Chung later told investigators and an open Congressional hearing that General Ji Shengde, the number two in Chinese military intelligence might have been the ultimate source, describing a meeting in the basement of a Hong Kong restaurant where Ji told him of a plan to funnel $300,000 to the Clinton campaign, explaining "we like your president."

Harold Ickes? Big Hillary crony. Father worked for FDR.
Kerry was in Vietnam? I have never seen such an obvious use of the wire services for distributing unfiltered press releases from a political campaign.
Timeline of Kerry's military service
With Politics, Bjt ***More than 20 years later, questions raised about Bush's Vietnam-era Guard service:
October 1994: During his gubernatorial run against then-Texas Gov. Ann Richards, reporters question whether Bush used family connections to receive preferential treatment getting into the National Guard to avoid the draft. Bush denied the accusation. ***
The Guardian - Kerry Campaign Unfazed by Bush Attacks
This really does look like 'David vs Goliath'.
I guess the truth just takes aim and wins the day, once it is released, and no amount of money or efforts to personally destroy the messengers is going to triumph.
Thank God for the Swift Vets who want to let all of us know exactly what kind of character john kerry has, and how he has used it to destroy others on the way to his personal dream.
I am sitting back and loving the hole the dems are in...defending the indefensible-bill klinton-has corrupted them fully, and the so called mainstream (which is really NOT mainstream in agenda, only in production) press is being exposed for what it is, finally. We owe the Swift Vets a huge thank you for being willing to upset their lives and walk thru the valley of the democrat slime machine in order to SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT.
Every voter benefits from the full story.
And since the mainstream press (again-referring to its NBC, CBS, NBC, CNN and NPR numbers, NOT its agenda, which is leftist and therefore unable to bring us BOTH sides of the story) is suffering, we owe these Swift Boat Vets a great debt of gratitude.
They are our 'David', and they are truly, courageous and honorable.

Swift Boat Veterans for Truth Bump!
Whoa.
What's the name of the 527 Hellary's side kick Ickies set up ???
LOL
I'm in the same predicament, I visited Texas once and I donated to Bush in the first election
I hope the FBI is not monitoring this thread or a kerry kool-aid drinker.
good stuff
Looks to me like a big loophole within a big loophole. So what types of communication are permissible?
I just don't see the Dems being able to paint a connection where none exists, especially if the FEC rejected the Rep's much stronger evidence against MoveOn this spring. Only an idiot would think there is no collusion going on between the Dems & MoveOn or any of these other 527's. It reeks of collusion. I can't imagine they seriously want to use this tactic which would expose thier own far worse violations unless their game plan is any kind of diversion at any cost.
So IIRC, Dean was the "wonderboy" of internet fund-raising, and when he tanked, Kerry's people wanted his fat donor list in the worst way. There was a company involved who got Dean set-up and launched his online presence. They are connected with MoveOn...they created & operate their site too..secure donations online etc. They also did the same for I think Pelosi? The Dem Marjority?
It's been a few months since I read this information but I remember thinking it looked like something worth a deeper look beyond Googling. Maybe a connection there.
bump.
I think I remember reading the info you've mentioned but don't have to time to chase it down.
The Dems seem to always think they can have it their way, iow, it's ok for them to do it but not ok for pubs to do anything even appearing out of line.
here's some more stuff you might like. this is the best breakdown of all this I've seen yet.
