Thanks for posting that link. I just finished reading the comments of the men who served with Kerry on the Gridley. Looks like Bonzo's M.O. is exaggerating his tales. Must be something he missed out on as a kid. I'd like a psych to explain why people inflate their experiences and create incidents that never happened. Habitual liars? Or a pathetic person constantly looking for recognition. I know his father wasn't all that attentive. Maybe that's where it came from. Sad though, because he appears not to have outgrown it. It will be his downfall in this election.

Doesn't matter, the cat is out of the bag. Loan your copy of Unfit for command to a friend.

""Bring it on! Er no, I didn't really mean bring it on..." "

And then when they were supposed to be on Hannity & Colmes last night opposite John O'Neill, the Kerry camp backed out of the appearance. Bring it on? Yeah, right John!!

A response a friend of mine got from a nastygram sent on book availability for Unfit:

Dear XXXXXXXXXXX,

Thank you for writing to Borders with your concerns about the availability of "Unfit for Command" Borders stores.

Borders does indeed carry John O’Neill’s book, “Unfit for Command.” In fact, it is Borders’s #1 nonfiction bestseller. Available stock is limited right now and we are doing everything we can to get additional copies of the book for our stores. The publisher is reprinting and more books should be available in the coming week. All Borders stores are taking reservations for customers.

As is the case with most major national or international events, we expect that our customers will turn to Borders to educate themselves on the candidates and national topics of the 2004 election year.

Borders believes in the basic right of our customers to choose what they want to read and buy, and we feel that it is important for us not to take any political stance--but instead to remain a neutral store where customers can gather information about any topic and any opinion. We do not practice preferential treatment to authors based upon the author’s political views; we simply carry and market all titles we feel our customers will buy.

In fact, our inventory is based primarily on what Borders shoppers have shown they are interested in purchasing--only 50% of the titles in our stores are common to every store and the other 50% is driven entirely by the shopping habits of our customers. As a result inventory varies greatly from store to store. All of the hot sellers, which a majority of the election and candidate-focused titles are, are stocked in every Borders store.

We firmly believe that our customers are intelligent, curious people who enjoy exploring all types of books and periodicals. They come to Borders because they know we carry a variety of titles that vary in political views, tastes and interests and our selection of titles is as diverse as the customers that we are proud to serve.

Thanks once again for sharing your comments with us. If you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact us at ccare@bordersstores.com.

Sincerely,

XXXXXXXXXXX

The Swift Boats vets' ad don't meet ANY of the FEC's own tests. They weren't requested or suggested by the Bush campaign. Bush never endorsed the ads. There is no overt or implied coordination between the Swifties efforts and the Bush campaign. No legal grounds exist to have their ads yanked. They are as legitimate a 527 group as the MoveOn group is and no one on the Democratic side is on record as saying yank them off the air too. This smells of sheer desperation on the part of the Kerry people since what's really getting their goats is that a half-million dollar commercial is killing them. I don't see how the FEC can help them, for even if they did pull the ads, there's still the book. And FR. Red China this country ain't and the Left's media monopoly is falling apart and they don't know how to handle everything that's been thrown at them. And if the truth were on their side - and this I guess goes to the heart of the matter - the Kerry Campaign wouldn't need to go to the FEC to silence a legitimate viewpoint they don't like.

P.S. If the ads do get pulled, LETS START ANOTHER 527 ORGANIZATION and pick up where they left off.

The thought had crossed my mind!

Dear Iowa,

I'll tell my wife right away that you referred to me as a "Constitutional stud muffin." I think she will beg to differ, just a bit.

Re: your questions: Soft money can still be given to the parties for allegedly non-partisan efforts such as "get out the vote" campaigns. Of course it is a wink and a nod that GOTV campaigns are non-partisan -- these are mostly Democratic efforts to turn out Democratic voters. Republican voters can go hang. (Republicans do the reverse.)

Anyone can still purchase "issue" advertising after 2 September. What has changed is that issue-oriented groups CANNOT run ads after that which refer to a "federal candidate" by name or by showing a picture. THAT is the abomination established by the Campaign Finance "Reform" Act.

Knock 'em dead in Iowa.

He is one.

The gloves are off.

He is one.

I think about those guys who were in those camps, those guys who were spat on when they came home, the families that broke up because of what the likes of Kerry said, the possible suicides of some of those guys and gals, and I just want to make certain Kerry and his ilk pay and PAY AND PAY.

Now Kerry can say "Oh, I may have exaggerated?" "Oh, maybe it wasn't Christmas?" etc., etc. Kerry, you may have been a lot of things, but a war hero, you ain't.

This is incorrect. By law, the FEC membership is always three Republicans and three Democrats. All members MUST be nominated by the President, per the Constitution's separation of powers.

However, the law requires the President to take recommendations from leaders of the opposite party, with respect to the Commission members of the opposite party. Daschle was pushing for a particularly screaming leftist Democrat, whom the President didn't want. He was trying to get a better Democrat for that slot, but failed to win his point.

But that was for a "Democratic slot." It did NOT change the alignment of the whole FEC.
