A Few of FR's Finest...Every Day...08-17-04...Blame it on St.Louie (What was your worst date?)

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Here Goes Nothing !

Arggghhh!
I took his
suggestion..
I threw
it up
and *ugly*
happened.

Arggghhh!
I know..
it stinks
but it was
*his* idea.

Arggghhh!
I can't
believe
*anyone*
will stay
around
today.

Arggghhh!
I bet
nobody's
first date
was
*this* ugly.

Arggghhh!
It's all
St.Louie's
fault if
you *hate*
today's
thread!

Arggghhh!
He *made* me
do it..
I didn't
wanna do
it....

I
Blame
it ALL
on
ST.LOUIE!

? ? ?

Sometimes it gets hard to think of ideas for new threads, so we ask for suggestions from our Finest Family... like what - or maybe even who - you would like to see featured in the future. Sometimes we hit the jackpot.
Last week I asked our dear FRiend, ST.LOUIE1, aka "wolfie", if there was anything in particular he would like to see presented at the Finest (Actually, I asked him if he would like to WRITE something for us, and I would even do the backgrounds, etc. and post it for him.) He very politely turned me down on writing it, but still offered this:
"BACKGROUNDS?!" he said, "You don't need elaborate backgrounds or fancy graphics - just throw out a question, like: 'What was your worst date?' and let everyone take it from there. It'll be fun, and you won't have to work so hard either."

"But Fancy Graphics and Elaborate Backgrounds R Us," I pouted. "It's what we've made as our trademark at the Finest. It's what others have come to 'expect' of us. They would be so disappointed. How could I just throw out a question..... with no background, no graphics, no pretty heading? No central theme, no color scheme, no coordinated pledge graphic, no welcome ping....."
"And besides, what kind of a question is that for the Finest? Most everyone here's been married so long, no one even *remembers* dating!"

Undeterred, wolfie (who, himself is a handsome and dashing and debonair bachelor and has probably never even had a *worst* date in his life) insisted this thread would indeed be a winner, so I begged and pleaded with him until finally he agreed I could at least have a background.
"So throw a background
around it and HUSH up!"

So here goes.....my reputation as a Finest Hostess aka Layout Artist aka Graphics Guru is at stake, but he made me do it. So if you hate today's thread, today's topic, BLAME IT ON ST. LOUIE!
On the other hand, if you just love today's thread, well,WE done good, didn't we? :) (That last part was just for you, T Man!)

Oh, yeah - the question!

Finest FReepers,
"What was your worst date?"

The guy's good, folks!
Thanks, Mixer!

1) Click on the graphic to open the Calendar.
2) Once there you can click on any month and even click to the right to go into next year. Once you are in the month that you joined FR you will need to click on the number in the calendar and then an add item screen will come up.
3) In the next box enter your name in the "Calendar Text" field and then click on submit.
4) If any of the screens fail to load simply click on refresh in your browser and that will usually fix it.
5) If all else fails or simply if you want me to do this for you send me a FReepmail and I will gladly do it for you. ~Mixer

dd's wracked his brain, searched through scrapbooks, yearbooks, hard drive, zip drives and floppys and he's afraid he can't find a single 'worst date'.
But then again, we're talkin about the swave and deboner dd - who could expect a 'worst date' with that guy.

LOL But.....what we're 'talkin'' here is dd's 'alter ego'. Now, tell about the REAL dd's misadventure. : )

dd's a very competitive guy, and he so wanted to win yet another contest, but now he's slipped into a deep depression. He's discovered that he's 'unqualified.'

You're worse than wolfie when it comes to 'spin'. LOL

Prolly just as well since the prize was prolly a date with Louie.

Yikes! I sure hope you don't win. LOL

Actually, the winner gets a date with both Billie and MamaBear. That's one heck of a prize!: )

My worst date was finding out my boyfriend was married by walking into his wife (whilst we were holding hands no less).

So what if the winner is a female? A date with you and dd (or is dd married now)?

Wellllll ... quite the thread today.

Miss Billie ... your reputation as a graphics maestro is intact, do not worry ... you've dolled this one up just fine.

Louie ... you're a rascal ... and your idea for a topic is a stroke of genius. It would be hard to top the account of your own 'worst date'... which makes it sorta ... topless.

My story? Nothing quite so dramatic as some of the other tales I've read this morning.

A couple of occasions blur in my memory, both involving women a little too needy for me to be comfortable with, so I bid a respectful Goodnite and then vamoosed as quickly as I could.

There was another time when I found out, during the course of the evening, that the lady was not quite as unmarried as I'd been led to believe ... I backed outta that one in a flash, too.

Something about that phrase 'entangling alliances' kept popping into my mind.

Ouch ... )

It's going to take me a while to catch up and read all the harrowing stories that I am sure are here!!!!

My worst date happens to have occurred the night I met my husband - and it really wasn't a date, and it wasn't with him.

It was in June, hot has Hades, NASCAR weekend in Dover, and I had just moved my furniture out of the soon-to-be (at that time) ex-husband's house and into my new apartment. I was hot, tired and thirsty so headed to the local tavern for a couple of beers. A group of the regulars was there and talking about heading to the Holiday Inn for happy hour and invited me to join them.

I went back to my place, changed clothes and met them. Winds up, I'm the only girl to have joined them but that didn't obther me because I had known most of them for several years. But the guy who initially asked me if I wanted to join them decided I was "with" him.....he also turned into an octopus. One of the guys, that I didn't know, sitting across the table finally realized I was mouthing the word HELP and not enjoying the battle of keeping hands off of me. Gentleman that is was, he got up and asked me to dance....of course 30 seconds after we hit the dance floor the band took a break. The octopus had headed for the men's rom - I said goodnight to the rest of my buddies and headed out the door, with my knight in shining armor (actually a '74 Lincoln town car) right behind me.

I married my knight 9 years later!!!!

OMG.

I guess I've tried to block them out - but my ex-husband had an unreal knack for always being able to find me. After I left and prior to the finalization of the divorce, he loved walking into a place and if he saw me talking to any male he would tap the guy on the shoulder and anounce loudly - "I would like to speak with my WIFE."

Talk about embarrassing...especially when he would do it while I was having a business dinner.

sigh ...If I must...here is my True Confession...

Harking back to the Dark Ages of the Fall of 1951 for my worst date, it was when I was a Senior in high school and went out with Patrick, my steady boyfriend.

My parents were out of town for two days, and I was staying with good friends, an older couple who lived near us.

Pat had just played in a football game (we won).
We had a bite to eat - then headed for a spot on the causeway by the Indian River to...talk...yeah, we talked...:))

After a long school week and the drain of the football game and having full stomachs, we somehow simply fell asleep, and woke with a jolt at 4 a.m.!!
(No police intervention - they knew all of us in what was then the small town of Melbourne, Florida and ignored all our parked cars, knowing we were good kids.)

The dilemma then was taking me home to the neighbors at that hour!
With dread, we drove up ever so quietly and I went in - - and apparently they had been sound asleep all night and did not know when I came home....WHEW !!!

I dated a few doozies in my time - but to this day I still have friends ask me why I ever married that one - I can only answer that I was young and dumb and away from home for the first time.

I had one boyfriend and that was the only one. Next time I'll be careful and not so love dumb *lol* Being away from home can exacerbate the young and dumbness I'll admit hehehe.
