Rush on McGreevy: Sympathy for living a lie
vanity | August 13, 2004 | Vanity

Posted on 08/13/2004 9:53:21 AM PDT by fightinJAG

Okay, please don't flame me. I'm honestly interested in what freepers think about this.

Ever since Rush came back from rehab and started talking about "living a lie" and "not being able to make other people happy" and all that, I've had the uneasy feeling that Rush had "discovered" something more about himself than he was letting on.

Today, listening to Rush as he talked about his empathy for McGreevy, it seemed inevitable to wonder if Rush's empathy (and, please, if you did not hear Rush's comments, realize it's difficult to assess the tone and emotion with which he delivered them) wasn't tied back to his own "living a lie" struggles.

Yes, it would be easy to think that the "lie" was his drug addiction, but . . . I'm posting this because it really seemed as though Rush might be warming up to his own bombshell (whatever that might be).

His commentary was so passionate, in a personal, not political way, that I even wondered if he was (unconsciously) seeing if he could start a thread like this, in order to see what the speculation might be and what the reaction to that speculation might be.

Who heard Rush's opening commentary on McGreevy and what was your reaction/thoughts? Thanks. I'd be interested to know.

It's just a goofy story for which the author didn't even research basic facts. For instance, he claims that Rush has a "gay sister." The truth is that Rush has no sister at all....gay or straight.

I agree!! 100 % Rush is our friend, and a little loyalty would be more appropriate.

If you aren't able to take it don't post on a public forum.
Sorry you felt insulted. Sometime the truth stings. I like your wife.

After reading his comments, I do understand. You can't live your life based on a lie, whether its being gay and denying it or being a drug addict and denying it. When people come out and admit the truth, they deserve our sympathy for coming to terms with the most difficult thing a human being can do, which is stop being who you think others want you to be and start being yourself. So Jim McGreevey's in a state of shock because his life unraveled around him and he hasn't quite figured out what's changed. At least he's stopped living a lie. John Kerry and Bill Clinton and the rest of the Democrats ARE living a lie and they don't merit any sympathy from us. If they leveled with us, perhaps that could change. McGreevey did the right thing and said this who I am and that took guts. The rest of the Democrats are in doo doo cause they won't admit who they are. So liberalism can be a prison more than its liberating. A big burden came off the chest of NJ's Governor and none of us would like to be in his shoes. All Rush is saying is be honest, be who you are, admit the truth. Maybe other people in a similar situation will do that and for McGreevey its really sad and there's the way he was muscled out by the NJ Democrat bosses. You usually don't see politicians do that - McGreevey came out because his hand was forced and that what made his confession so unusual. When you live your life a lie, it sooner or later comes down around you. Perhaps there's a lesson in it somewhere for Kerry since he has trouble telling the truth about Cambodia and God knows whatnot. Just my 2 cents opinion here on what Rush said and people on Free Republic wondered if he lost his marbles. The truth is he was simply illustrating a universal statement about human nature - life catches up with us and we're not always in control of the outcome.

Time to reassert this:

Rush Limbaugh is "The Passion"

by Chris Davis as posted on Free Republic.com

Make no mistake. Rush Limbaugh is “The Passion.” He is the passion of conservatism, the very pulse, bounding through the veins of the nation. He produces life with every heartbeat of his show as he scoffs at liberals and gives us his interpretation of conservative truth. His brand of ideology shakes the very foundations of liberalism.

He follows in the footsteps of giants, such as George Washington, Thomas Paine, and Ronald Reagan, promoting the ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. He broadcasts affectionately trying to steer growing government towards the ideals of the Constitution.

He believes that Americans with limited government are better Americans. He believes that Americans shouldn’t murder babies in the womb. He believes that tax cuts are good for the economy. And finally, he believes safe Americans living free are the best Americans of all.

Boldly he pronounces the lies of liberalism and asserting daily doses of truth. With resounding conviction, he echoes the sentiments of the Founding Fathers, evoking the wrath of those who oppose him. “The Passion.” His passion forces him to carry the torch of liberty and justice, inflicting backlash, lies, and corruption at his doorstep. The compassionate liberals, those that believe in fair play and equal justice, will do almost anything to berate him.

Mildly he sits and passes on his message, his passion, his views, his legacy. A legacy of truth, justice, and the conservative American way. He hands his gift down day after day, show after show. He will live as one of the greatest men in conservative history correct 98.4% of the time. There are few men in history that has received the same award as President Ronald Reagan. There are fewer men that could go on day after day under the scrutiny he faces. And there are only a handful of men that could keep themselves reserved while suffering the onslaught of the visceral hatred of “compassionate liberals.”

Quite frankly, I don’t know how he does it. How does he stand so strong against so much? How does he execute his duties so faithfully with the onslaught of these lies? How does he continue to go on the air? Especially when the people that presume to blackmail him walk free! “The Passion.” That’s how.

As I listened to his show today, January 27, 2004, I could hear “The Passion.” Liberal after liberal tried to infiltrate the show and discredit the man behind the “Golden EIB Microphone.” He was fiery. He was excellent. He’d had enough. They failed to extinguish him.

Last night, his attorney, Roy Black, was filled with “The Passion.” Filled so full that it seemed as if Rush himself were sitting there screaming the answers, “I DID NOT DO THIS!”

I was enthralled. I was overjoyed. I felt giddy, like a kid in a candy store. I knew for the first time in months as if justice had taken a direct blow to the lies and corruption creeping into Rush Limbaugh’s life. Never had I wavered. Never had I been so steadfast in my disbelief of the news media. I never believed the allegations. Not once. Not until Rush himself admitted it.

I was disappointed when I heard Rush was addicted to prescription painkillers. Why, you ask? Because I had placed him on so high a pedestal, considering him the greatest man in the world. You know what? I still do. Despite all the claims, I still consider him the greatest conservative I’ll ever know.

I know you’re saying I’m crazy. I know you’re telling me to check myself into therapy, but it’s true. I can’t help it. I can’t help but applaud a man with this many medical conditions going on day after day after day after day, executing liberal lies with impunity. I have too much respect and admiration for the man that put his own show ahead of pain, pushing himself into addiction and blackmail. Too much admiration for the man that removed the disease, the man that removed liberalism.

Liberalism was planted deep within me, as if it were a parasite feeding on me. Rush cut it out like a surgeon excising a cancerous tumor, giving me the opportunity to experience life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. He gave me the chance of a lifetime. The “lone beacon of opposition” handed me a certainty, a guarantee no person had ever given me before. No, he didn’t come to Texas and brainwash me. He presented his case like he does every single day-clearly, concisely and effectively, planting the seed of common sense in my brain. By sowing that seed, he also gave me hope, happiness, and “The Passion.”

“The Passion” to live life, to succeed again and again, and to not feel guilty about creating wealth. He handed me an education in advanced conservative studies and said, “Go forth and produce young man. Give life everything you’ve got.” And I do. I thank him from the bottom of my heart. I owe at a minimum my undying support and loyalty.

Everyday Rush withstands the assaults, he strengthens my resolve to praise him more and more. The more the liberals bash Rush the more I salute him. The more they harangue him the more I respect him. They cannot or will they ever break my obstinate resolve. Instead, they have only succeeded in convincing me how corrupt, phony, and merciless they really are.

With Rush on the radio, I continue to conquer day after day, living in conservative principles, consumed with the fiery notion of my new life. I rebuke liberalism with special thanks to my educator. I love the life I have earned, as I pursue success after success, and eagerly wait another broadcast day of “The Passion.”

"Once he was sober he figured out to dump the wife and has been a heck of a lot happier."

I think you're dead on here. I think part of his addiction came from pain and misery. You can tell the difference in his voice inflection since he announced his divorce.

By the way, how are you doing?

After 17yrs in NYC, I'd ask: isn't that the same thing?

"How so?"

His voice has more bounce in it. He's cracking far more jokes than before and is in a good mood, hacking on his staff all the time. It's almost something you can't put into words, but can tell.

And quit firing those M-16 rounds. Don't you know guns kill people? You're obviously one of those evil, pistol packin' conservatives. :) HA! Just kidding!

McGreevy is hiding behind his homosexuality to deflect criticism of his corruption.

McGreedy is Clinton and Torch all rolled into one.

Why make two speeches? McGreedy should have made one speech and he should have been honest about it. The mainstream media and the Democrats are giving the impression he resigned because he announced to the world he's gay. The one thing that sets Rush and McGreedy apart are "being honest with those around you". McGreedy lacks that particular element in him. Sort of Clintonesque.

My "speculation," as you call it, was not in any way, shape or form made to hurt Rush. Quite the opposite! As I got the sense that he wanted to go further and reveal something else, I was struck with concern and care for Rush and the advancement of the ideals we (supposedly, in this forum) share.

Yes. And the Democrats are abetted in this deceit by the way Jim McGreevey artfully hid his tiny, tiny resignation speech* at the end of his long, involved "coming out" speech.

If McGreevey were really a hero, he would have chosen another occasion to finally emerge from his self-constructed cocoon.

McGreevey's contrived spectacle made him seem like a "coming of age" young person (a sort of a debutante) rather than a resigning politico.

*Here is the two-sentence text of McGreevey's actual resignation speech.

To facilitate a responsible transition, my resignation will be effective on November 15th of this year.

I'm very proud of the things we have accomplished during my administration. And I want to thank humbly the citizens of the state of New Jersey for the privilege to govern.

All the other paragraphs, that went before these few words, were his "coming out" speech and should have been emotionally delivered at another time.

Rush's empathy is misplaced. McGreevey wasn't living s "secret" lie -- he was living a quasi-public lie, using his tuned and natural political sense of what he could get away with.

Most insiders in Jersey were aware of McG's homosexuality -- yet they played along because it is a political third rail to bust a lib or Dem someone for an affair, even a "gay" one. The security details knew -- the people who worked with the boy-toy(s) suely knew.

McGreevey was more like Clinton than Rush! An exploiter of the system. Rush did not exploit the system, he did not steal from the state coffers, he did not mock duty and responsibility by appointing par-amours to extragvagent public sinecures. He did not take extravagent and ultra-expensive exotic international travels on the public dime.

No matter what secrets a box may hold -- Rush's box is totally different than McGreevey's!

McGreevey was a thief! A creator -- in his sin's high quasi-public wake -- of many more sinners, by example, by distress.

Your post #195 noted. You are really concerned about Rush. I now see what I should have considered, a more careful reading. One drawback is one's eagerness to get in on discussions. Your caveat re Rush and a possible bombshell was "whatever that may be".

I had jumped to a quick conclusion and ignored that.

You have a chance to flame away though for this suggestion. Another caveat could have been " I am not suggesting that this has to do with Rush's private sex life". It did give some of us to enter into high praise of Limbaugh. One other post, is one I am glad to have read on Rush. Your own post has a long life and therefore you are to be commended. Anyway keep up the good work, as the saying goes.
