From the NJ State Constitution:

9. A Governor elected for an unexpired term shall assume his office immediately upon his election.

Because he delayed the actual date of the resignation, he thwarts having an election in November. The voters cheated again!

The voters cheated again!

New Jersey voters don't care.

If they cared about the state, they wouldn't have voted for this bum in the first place.

Same with the Lautenberg/Forrester fiasco in 2002!

This is the way the Democrats control the black vote and the way they would run politics in every state and the nation if they could get away with it!

McGreevey resigned, if he vacated office immediately a special election would be held in November and the dems would lose (probably). But since he delayed the effective date, it will be held next year. In the meantime, a dem state senator becomes governor and controls the State Senate and the govenorship until the election next year. It keeps the dems in power through the presidential election and allows them a full year to put up a stronger candidate.

New Jersey will just elect another RAT anyway.

But will he be a queer, also?

You're right! Now I'm going to have to replace McGreevy with Mr. Smithers!

But McGreevy staying in office during the election could hurt Kerry more than if he stepped down now.

OMG. That is dirty, filthy politics. If a Republican tried this the New York Times would put it on their front page for a month until they resigned.

Because McGreevey said he resigns effective November 15. In other words, he's still in office until it's way too late to have an election this year.

That's why he's postponing the date that he chose to step down. So that the Democrats can select a new governor rather than have one elected by the people.

No vacancy until the resignation takes effect on November 15.

Pfft. As the Florida 2000 and New Jersey (Bob Torricelli) cases illustrate, the law means nothing. A "hypertechnical reliance" on what the law says is just the evil right-wingers way of oppressing the people. The law is what you can get a judge to say that it is.

Watch: the NY Times editorial board will hail McGreevey as a hero for being the first gay Governor.

I doubt it. This isnt about being gay, he'd stay in if that was the only thing and the press would rally behind him (though voters would likely not re-elect him...how could women respect a married man who cheats on his wife with a man!) There are other allegations here which forced him to go public first. And the NY Times knows about them, so they wont go out on a limb calling him noble.

He's not leaving office, OFFICIALLY, until November 15th.

Just more spitting in the face of the NJ citizen.
