Courthouse Employees Hunt Ghost
New Security System Captures Haunting Images

CHESTERTOWN, Md. -- The word "ghost" is hot on the lips of Kent County Court House employees.

A new $75,000 security system installed July 1 hasn't caught any criminals, but it did capture some haunting images of what appears to be a strange light "walking" in one stairwell.

"It didn't show up to the eye, but it showed up on tape," said security officer Phillip Price.

Security personnel first saw the light while looking at a surveillance tape recorded July 29, and it appeared live for more than an hour the next day.

After noticing the light, Price walked up the stairs and didn't see a thing. But downstairs, where by then a crowd of employees had gathered to watch, the video monitor revealed the strange light proceeding ahead of Price, stopping when he stopped and starting when he started.

At one point, those watching the video feed saw Price walk through the anomaly, they said. That was about the time that Price said he felt something.

Here's my 'ghost' story. A few years ago, I was walking two greyhounds at the top of my driveway around 4:00 A.M. in early spring. I'd left the kitchen light on, and this was shining through the trees. So there I was, admiring the light shining through the young green leaves, as they drooped over an old stone wall. Then I saw something that looked like a gray cat walking along the wall behind the leaves. I couldn't figure out which cat had gotten out at that hour, besides...I didn't have a gray cat.

The greyhounds had their heads down, sniffing the grass, paying no attention to the stone wall, so I watched to see which cat would jump down when it reached the end. But no cat appeared. Instead, a light about the size of a ping pong ball or maybe a fifty cent piece floated off in mid-air. It then did a ninety degree turn, shot up the driveway in my direction, got maybe three inches beyond where I stood with my mouth hanging open, took another ninety degree turn, and shot past me down the street. When I whipped around to see where it was, it disappeared. For months I never told a soul what I'd seen. I hustled the dogs indoors and never took them out that early again.

Some months earlier, I'd lost a Siamese cat, probably to a coyote, but everytime I went outside, I'd call his name, hoping he'd return. No luck. My daughter would do the same. I didn't tell her about what I'd seen on the stone wall because I didn't want to scare her, but the last time I'd seen Noah, the cat, he'd been walking along that stone wall. He must have been sick and tired of me calling him all the time. Eventually, I told my daughter what I'd seen, and she said she thought it was Noah's ghost, letting me know he'd moved on to another sphere and to please stop pestering him. That light had intelligence behind it because I knew it was there for me to see, and those right angle turns it made. It chose to move just far enough up the driveway so that when it made that last turn it didn't blast right through my body.

There is life after death, and probably science is right and there are at least what, eleven other universes? Dark matter, maybe that's where Noah is.

Casper The Friendly Ghost:

(Smiling.)

Gee, he sure sounds nice!

(Casper approaches David to give him a hearty handshake. Apparently unaware that ghosts do not have any corporeal form that can be touched or gripped by non-ghost humans.)

Don't you love when there is a story that is entirely based on an picture and they don't show the damned picture?

Apparently unaware...

Yes, but he was a legendary player nonetheless. He can't help that he was from Wisconsin.

Agreed.

But I think you meant WISS-KAHN-SIN!

Isn't that how you folks pronounce it?

Bear in mind, I've never met someone from your state who had a true Wisconsin dialect.

Actually, I had an American Studies professor a few years ago who came from Dairyland.

Very blond, come to think of it.

I don't know if that was hereditary or if it was simply a case of a good, old-fashioned, wholesome Wisconsin upbringing.

Come to think of it, I think she got her master's degree from the U. of Michigan.

A very well-rounded woman. At least, academically speaking.

I don't know, when I took her class she seemed to be pretty skinny.

The weird thing was that she kind of looked like a slightly older version of Britney Spears...with glasses.

Yeah, I can't stand when they have a story like this with no pics. I'll post them if they do come up with any. WBAL is a local station for me... so I'll stay on top of it.

“ ...a scientific explanation for the anomaly, such as dust spots on the camera lens or a malfunctioning battery.

I have only picked up 'orbs' a few times on my Canon digital though I have taken thousands of shots trying to get them. One was at a graveyard called, 'Ye Olde Burial Grounds' in Windsor, CT... first cemetery in a town that dates back to 1633.

Some of the 'orbs' were multicolored and seemed to be picking up the brown hue of the sandstone markers.

As an artist and being familiar with color, there are certain colors that 'bounce' when placed side by side.(example; aqua/red, purple/bright orange) I tend to think the bright green of the grass and the dark, rust-color of the sandstone react in this manner.

The camera reacts the same way as your eye would in receiving these color combinations. Basically, they 'bounce' off each other.

Just a dumb artists input.

Lovely story. I have loved & lost so many dogs & cats over my lifetime that I have lost count. I have always wished to have an experience like yours but alas, I have not. I had to put down 2 of the little dears last summer but so far I have not heard their little toenails on the floor or seen them out of the corner of my eye. One of those I was sure would remain with me always.
