In Rush's closing segment he said that he just received a story or document saying that lawyers for both the Kerry and Edwards teams were sending out letters to TV stations warning them about showing the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth advertisement!

"The Kerry Campaign truly is an embarrassment of riches. Yesterday it was the photos: the Corn, the Chopper and the Tackle (of that lady)."TACKLE?? I missed that!
"Today, 'the Sensitive War,' and now the 'Pay No Attention to the Man Behind the Curtain' Threat Letters."
Well, it's no longer a joke, it's a fact: Kerry plans to fight the war on terror by suing.

What grounds? Libel? Slander? Outrage? False Light?
J&J are Public Figures. In order for them to prevail for damages after the fact, they would have to PROVE ads were false on fact, (and the vets statements are OPINION, not FACT) show that stations ran ran the ads KNOWING they were FACTUALLY FALSE, that those FACTUALLY FALSE statements cause Kerry GREAT HARM and stations did so FOR THE PURPOSE of hurting J&J.
Stations purpose was to make money (and all other problems of above).
Suit dies.
Try to get courts to ban them? Prior Restraint. No way.
PS. This is a very stupid thing for J&J to do. Makes the story have even more legs. I love it!!!

[L]awyers for both the Kerry and Edwards teams were sending out letters to TV stations warning them about showing the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth advertisement!Yet another breathtakingly idiotic misstep on the parts of both TerAYza's Cabana Boy and Breck, the Girl Wonder.
Shrieking like a pair of red-faced fishwives in a highly visible public attempt to squelch all discussion and debate, re: the SBV assertions, is only going to render said accusations that much MORE believable to all and sundry, once UNFIT FOR COMMAND hits the shelves... and reacting precisely like a pair of sweaty, shifty-eyed courtroom johnnys with something they're desperate to hide -- which is precisely what they are, of course -- is simply going to leave their repeated squeaks of denial sounding that much tinnier, and less convincing.
GWB never attempted to strongarm congenital liar Michael "Leni" Moore over the latter's demonstrable falsehoods, re: F9/11; nor did he publicly commence to bawling like a spanked spaniel puppy (or a spineless, heiress-dominated Boston liberal) over MoveOn's craven "Bush = Hitler" ads.
This is going to leave the classy, masculine GWB looking infinitely more capable of dealing with adversity than it will Kerry or Edwards. Again: an absolutely jaw-dropping miscue by the 'rats, on this one.
Whoever it was who counseled them to overreact this idiotically -- and it smells mighty Carvillian to me, from way over here -- needs to have payment on their next stopped, ASAP. He/she is clearly carrying water for our team. :)

Libel isn't protected by the First Amendment. Is that what Kerry's Lawyers are alleging? I just think it's unprecedented for a political candidate to threaten legal action to suppress an ad.
It's probably bad tactics, since it only draws attention to the ad. I doubt they could ever prove libel, since the ads would have to be clearly untrue. Kerry will get a ton of free defense from the mainstream media, regardless. There will be hit pieces attacking the "Republican Attack Machine" and "debunking" allegations in the ad, all gratis.

Hee ... hee ... And I'm sure the WhiteHouse occupants can't advise some really good lawyers to help them. ;)

If the left succeeds in stopping this ad on radio/tv - we need to donate to the veterans' 527 so they can set up enough servers to do the job and then we need to circulate the link(s) for the ad by email.
The email route will work. I'm always getting multiple chain mails from people who do not know each other within a week or two of each other.
Talk radio and FOX can help too.
It occurs to me that this could force the organization of a new process that has needed doing.

What would you expect from a trial lawyer who wants to be President? If these smarmy, arrogant guys get near the White House, we better all be ready for what's coming next. The lawyers will go NUTS for Edwards. "He's one of ours! He's one of ours!"

Whatever happened to the constitutional right to "free speech".........even despicable speech you deplore (/sarcasm)?
Clearly, according to the Dim Brown Shirts, "free speech" only applies to liberals.
We are supposed to put up with liberal speech atrocities but when conservatives speak up, the liberals call their lawyers.
Lying, corrupt, depraved, hypocritical liberals.

You're right. And, Fox News, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh will
not be threatened by nancy boy lawyers.
This could be very good news for Fox ratings and for the ratings of all the conservative AM radio hosts. I can hear it now - - -

The story is starting to get out now. I just heard it on the ABC news at the top of the hour! That's great. I didn't expect it.
Wonder if Timmy Russert will find it actionable, newsworthy, stuff to chat about on Sunday.
Not holding my breath, but I surely would like to see this fill some significant air time.
