Too many changes
Free Republic ^

So many changes. I am sure that they are great. But I can't navigate FR like I used to. I feel so helpless, like John Kerry in a real war zone. Things are indented, and it looks like something is reading my mind (or trying to).
Am I alone? This is not a complaint, just a global obesrvation.

When reading a thread and wanting to return to browse, now when I click on "Browse", I am returned to "all messages". What?!! I was in the News/Activism forum, now I'm getting all messages. Ugh. I hate that. So I have to click back on the News/Activism form. Yep. That has been bugging me all day.
Is this something that will be fixed at some point?

Yes. I plan to restore that plus a little enhancement or two soon, perhaps tonight if I can find the time.
To: John Robinson
Take your time. Just knowing it will be fixed has made my day. Thanks!!

Well one of the most recent changes (no display of the posts on your "ping/messages to you" page) bothers me. I used to use that to find some older threads (maybe a picture or maybe an extended quote.
Also now it means I have to open a whole thread just to see what someone said to me.

I don't like that either.
I hope they change it back.

I think all you need to do is click
Full and that should put it back the way it was.

Thanks. That did it.
PINGS aren't of much help if you have to open the thread to see what a post is.
Also, after you've read a thread, the hyperlink will change color (natch) but there is nothing to indicate if a particular post has been read or not (you have to remember your latest post number). When you can see what the last post was to you, you can tell if you already read it.

2. There still seems to be a bunch of room between the body of a post and the footer/tag of the post. It is just space, but it hogs up vertical space. (more scrolling) Correct me if I'm wrong, but that white-space is a function of the auto-formatting. If you stick any HTML tag in, that white-space disappears.

Right. I want to wrap paragraphs of autoformatted text with P tags and my display code needs to include a BR CLEAR="ALL" at the end of every comment in case somebody has made a floating object. The combination of the two is creating too much whitespace. Same for the top, but that should be easy to fix.
It's been a minor issue of a piece of code I badly want to rewrite, just haven't gotten around to it.

I have my setting set to where when I click on a thread, it pulls the first 100 responses per page.
Today, even though my setting is still the same, I'm only getting 50 responses per page. Will this be fixed?
Thanks!

Did you change thread pagination to 50 posts per page? I can't seem to get it to set to 100 (as I've always had it)?

I liked how for a few days it was showing how many views per thread. It was very interesting and instructive.
I hope this is brought back.

it looks like something is reading my mind (or trying to). I thought it looked more like the image of a Host on the sun. But, then, I'm just a classybrowneyedbrunette.

I know exactly what you mean. My computer has been down for a couple of months, so when I can, I FReep at the local library. I'm lost in all of the changes!!

. I'm lost in all of the changes!! Hey, this thread hasn't been kicked to "Chat" so all is not lost.
Funny keywords that have been added.

My only problem is that I can't hit Browse anymore when I am on Chat or Relgion etc. and get those posts anymore. It always reverts to news!

Near as I can tell, the Browse will show you the latest posts from any area you have posted a thread into.
Or something like that?
