But, we've got seven new Republicans to elect in Texas, so we can fortify the House, so you go right ahead and work for Keyes.

I spent two months this year helping on that effort myself.

Right now I'm helping make sure that WV stays Bush country.

And yes, I will do everything in my power to help elect Alan to the Senate, notwithstanding your bitter opposition, negativism and defeatism.

I think Dr. Keyes has a great chance of winning. Obama will only get the left-wing extremists.

I heard somebody from Illinois say that Obama is left of Lenin.

The fact that the Republican party invited Keyes to the state will negate the charge of carpetbagger.

This campaign will bring many of the "silent majority" to the voting booth.

Keyes said Bush's decision was more damaging than anything that Bill Clinton, often called the villain of the right, could have done.

"The evil that you know, the evil that inspires you to fight again is not the worst evil," Keyes said.

"The worst evil creeps behind your lines and dominates your leadership."

It's not just me, but someone at the speech heard differently from you, outlaw:

"He accused Bush of being evil," said Chuck Lutz, president of the Tarrant County Republican Assembly. "I don't think anyone in that room would say George W. Bush is trying to see how much evil he can get away with."

"I have heard him go off the deep end before. I can't say I was surprised, but I did not expect it."

Source.

I was there. I witnessed what was said. Keyes did not say Bush was evil

Other Freepers who were there disagree with your characterization of what he said.

Yeah, that quote could be a real problem! However, if he deals with it directly, is candid and explains why he is running, he can get past it.

Of course he still has no chance of winning, and remains a carpetbagger, but there is much he can do to advance conservatism by running here. Any local person running(excluding some who already declined) also had no shot, but at least this will get some publicity for the GOP candidate, as some tune in to see "Why this nut decided to run in a state he doesn't even live in?" He can hold Obama's feet to the fire and help expose his true beliefs and weaknesses, help engender more left-right debate in IL that could potentially aid other races, and soften Obama up for 2010. Perhaps more importantly, as an official candidate from IL he may be able to raise quite a stink about any tomfoolery that takes place on election day, should the Rats try their usual in Cook County.

Plus, as someone with no future expectations or favors owed
in IL, he would be free to come out blazing with both barrels. With nothing to lose, he could really bloody the Democrats.

Is this for real? I've seen nothing here yet.

The Fox station in Chicago reported a few minutes ago that the GOP "leaders" are still debating the matter, with Keyes believed, at least by some sources, the favorite.

At this point, the Illinois GOP has little to lose. Go, Alan, go.

I give Keyes credit for finally trying to win an election. Anything. Dog catcher would have been good.

Of course he is a great orator. However, Illinois??? Oh my.

Just going up a name called "Obama" has got to be a disaster.

Sure hope I am wrong.

I love Alan Keyes.

A very principled conservative . And smart too. Hillary changed the rules when she carpet bagged to NY. No need for the Republicans or Keys to hold back when the rules change. As has been said by other posters, Alan was invited to run in Ill, he did not impose himself on the Republican party. Win or lose, Alan Keys willl make the race exciting and maybe historic. When was the last time two black candidates for senate ran against each other? Just asking as I don't know.

How could I have been so blind to this brilliant secret plan?

It's your blindness. You tell us.

Okay. I understand you're upset that your state party didn't use someone in-state. I would be a disallusioned, too, about my state Republican Party. However, this is the circumstance in which we find ourselves. Are you going to now derail the campaign because they drafted an Easterner, or are you going to support someone who will probably fight for 80-95% of what you want from a Senator?

I realize he certainly had a history in WY, having served as their Congressman decades ago, but he had lived in Texas for a very long time.

LOL, left wing moral equivalence alert.

Congrats on your donation.

I don't need your congrats, the point was to make you understand that I don't need your advice on what to do with my money.

But remember that Lincoln himself, interestingly enough, lost some a few elections (including congressional elections) before making something of himself.

Lincoln lost one election. And in fact, he won the popular vote in that election, but the state legislature chose Douglas. Keyes has lost four elections, and the most he's ever gotten is 39%.

How did you feel when Dick Cheney changed his Texas residency after decades so that he could meet the constitutional restriction on a POTUS and a vice-POTUS being from the same state?

Dick Cheney had a residence in Wyoming.

Are you saying Keyes has a home in Illinois.

Keyes only plays well to himself and fourteen loons in the balcony. He is so self absorbed and pretentious he makes normal folks shudder.

So, what you're really trying to say is "GO, OBAMA

"But remember that Lincoln himself, interestingly enough, lost some a few elections (including congressional elections) before making something of himself."

One can only hope that this will hold true for Keyes as well.
There's a quiet rumble brewing. The rumble of the Conservative movement........

Will Alan suggest getting the US out of the UN, and getting the UN out of the US?

How does one carpetbag while running for the VPOTUS spot? I see your point concerning the Constitution reqs, but it's not carpetbagging.

What does Keyes know of that state?

(Disclaimer - I agree with the dude 95% of the time, aand I voted for him in the 2000 primary).

"What's his argument that he's not a carpetbagger?
I mean, was he at least raised in Illinois or something??"

His argument is the state Republican Party asked him if he
would represent them in this election.
