It's official! Yahoo!
Yes. Anytime before the election IIRC.
We owe Alan Keyes. This is pretty much a no-win fight, but it will be a great opportunity for our best spokesman to make our case. Thanks Alan for taking this on.
Don't be so dramatic. None of Illinoisans who are unhappy with Keyes wish that it was Barthwell. (At least, I can't imagine that any of us do.)
We're angry that the state party and the national party screwed Illinois up so badly that we need to import someone from the East Coast instead of developing local conservative talent.
When will the ILGOP finally hit bottom? I fear we aren't there yet.
Repeal the 17th amendment!

Sure enough.
Downright practical of him, ain't it...
He might surprise alot of people in this race.
Jay Rockefeller isn't from, nor has he ever lived, in West Virginia.
They've always hung him out to dry before --- what would change? Keyes is excellent, I hope he never gives up.
50% don't beat 100%. Obama may have the name but if he wants to play racial politics Keyes has the genes.
As stated. He was asked to run by the IL GOP. He was drafted. HE didn't impose himself.
Let me know where I can get my bumper sticker and yard sign!
No, I don't like Keyes. He referred to George W. Bush in a speech in 2001 at the Hyatt Regency, DFW Airport, as an evil man for his stem cell decision.
He's an egomaniac, who cannot resist, in his speeches, insulting the very people he's expecting to vote for him. He talks down to people, as if he were some kind of national preacher.
He will lose, and lose badly, and this will be the end of him, politically.
We are fine...still slugging away with our home improvements...just about done....
Maybe he realizes the stakes are just too high to be held back by niceties and the unwritten "rules" of politics. This is war! The Democrats must be defeated. We MUST prevent the Democrats from taking the Senate, just as we MUST keep Kerry from taking White House.
If Keyes had backed away from an opportunity to help under these circumstances, that would be a disservice to the things he stands for.
The IL GOP asked him.
The seat is a goner. Keyes ain't gonna win or even come close, but it helps us two-fold: puts heat on Obama to not have a free ride and forces him to make promises he'd rather not make; and Keyes actually will help Bush -- because, otherwise, the downballot could have been a disaster with GOP voters (including black GOP voters) just staying home.

It's not puddleglum to insist my state party do better. It's not puddleglum to be offended that an East Coaster is coming to my state just because the national party didn't want to invest in Illinois talent. This situation was avoidable, but the party screwed it up.
My beef isn't really with Keyes. It's with the circumstances that bring him to the race.
Keyes spoke out against a practice in 2000 that voters decided otherwise, in the largest state east of the Mississippi. So now it is now an ACCEPTABLE practice.
Everyone shops the whole country nowdays for the best possible talent.
School districts do it for Superintendents, Police departments do it for new chiefs of police, Airport commissions, Library boards, et. cetera...
Let the voters HEAR his ideas and presentation, and judge for themselves how effectively he would represent Illinois!
Keyes can be one of the greatest Senators ever! Other states should be so fortunate.
What's the best way that we can get behind this?
You're memory has prevailed.
He can move anytime before the election.
I hope he wins.
