Spoken like a true illinois pubbie from the daley machine side of politics.

Pat omalley didn't make it last time, but hell I voted for keyes in the 2000 primary, now I actually have a reason to go to the poles a vote for a republician cnaidate for senator, as oppose to a libertarian.

Illinois pubbies are like illinois nazis, disgusting.

I have met Alan Keyes a couple of times and voted for him here in Maryland. Alan Keyes is a brilliant man, he is a conservative through and through and he can articulate his views like few I have ever seen. Obama can definately deliver a speech, but can he go toe to toe with Alan Keyes? I seriously doubt it. But you might be 100% correct about the "late in the game" issue. I hope that's not the case, I would hate to see Alan lose after exposing Obama for the Ultra Left Liberal he is...

P.S.

How are ya's? :-)

We wouldn't have needed him if the state party and the national party had been willing to actually fund a candidate. The choice of Keyes has little to do with his politics, and everything to do with his ability to attract out of state money.

You may be right. We can think "if only" or "what ifs," but at this point, the only thing to do is move on and try to win this thing!

This seat is too important to lose.

But just you watch- a bunch of Keyes-hating posters will now crawl out of their holes, and attempt to demoralize Team Freeper positivity. They've been doing it for years.

They're already out in full force on this thread, Byron. But they should consider the following info from illinoisleader.com before they goon crying that the GOP did not pick Barthwell:

The vote between Barthwell and Keyes is expected to be close... she was pro-choice...Her position on the war on terrorism and Iraq is unknown...has financially supported at least two Democrats -- $250 to Mayor Richard M. Daley in 2001 and $1000 in 2000 to Alderwoman Dorothy Tillman, and one Democratic organization, the 8th Ward Regular Democratic Organization. Illinois State Board of Election records show no contributions to Republicans...At the federal level, she financially supported Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. with a donation of $1500 in 2000...Barthwell voted Democratic in the last three elections...Most controversial are the embarrassing allegations by D.C. office staff of Barthwell demonstrating "lewd and abusive behavior" while serving in the Bush administration.

Good heavens! Why is she even being considered?!? PLEASE run, Alan, PLEASE!

Tell that to the national party. They've written it off.

He said that there were competing interests at work and that if he was actually needed in order to represent conservative principles, that was more important than the factor of his not yet living here.

Also, don't be a crab.

I almost expected someone during the convention to say, "Obama...he just talks so well."

One of them did, although I didn't hear it, one of the declining democrap pudits marvelled at how "articulate" he was ("...for a Black person..." was left unsaid.)

Keyes doesn't stand a chance. Obama is the media's favorite puppet.

I agree. And unfortunately Keyes is totally lacking in charisma while Obama has an abundance of charisma.

Keyes will lose.

Just as many effective medicines are themselves toxic, sometimes what is the wrong thing in all other contexts is the curing thing in extrema. These are extreme times wrt/ the Senate and its accountability. Total lack thereof. Mr. Keyes is a man of taking account. We ALL need him and a few more like him in that CIRCUS. To wrest it back to it's duty and accountability. For what a circus that body has become!

Senators have outgrown their states -- they operate more and more outside of the state political processes -- they rule that process rather than it ruling them. Keyes -- by his commitment to original intent, would work to restore the sovereign power of the states as well as the state's role in the checks and balances on the Federal.

Are you two possessed by the spirit of Puddleglum? Be a Ronald Reagan conservative and get some optimism, for pity sake!

I say that Keyes was not selected to win. He was selected to dim Obama's lamp as much as is practical. Right now, people think Obama is the Second Coming, and that needs to be countered somehow, even if he wins anyway.
