A handful of Jacksonville FReepers evolved into 65 Bush supporters to give a nice Jacksonville, UNWELCOME to democRAT VP nominee John 'Mop-Top' Edwards this evening! The weather was hot & humid, buy our spirits were high.
FReeper honor roll includes: OXENinFLA, Warrior Nurse, Taxman, krunkygirl and her son, and Chieftain. My lurker Friend, Dave, was first on scene and provided recon by cell phone.
Bush supporters started arriving in small groups and the crowd kept growing. Before we knew it, we had all four corners with Bush supporters and the Kerry/Edwards 3 or 4 supporters on the corners, dwindled to one die hard. Warrior Nurse and krunkygirl took turns giving him an earful. The guy was a hopeless Kerry Kool-Aid drinker and didn't have a whole lot good to say about his man Hanoi John, except he was angry that US government is spending so much money in Iraq.
Edwards was a hour late, (duh?), and while we waited for him we all got to meet and make friends with new folks. The Secret service and cops were all real happy to see us there and each one I talked with indicated he was a Bush supporter!
The various groups represented were Jacksonville GOP and Bush/Cheney reps, Young Republicans, Students for Bush, Christians for Bush, Women Veterans for Bush, Boy Scouts for Bush, and oh yeah as you will see, Babies for Bush!
There was one active duty sailor in civilian clothes and his wife and they were real excited to be there. He said his dad was Vietnam vet and really hurt and insulted by Kerry's LIES 33 years ago, and his resurfacing now and claiming to be a hero after only serving 4 months. He told me he wanted to wear his uniform, but knows he can't do that. I got the feeling from his words, that there will be millions of families of Vietnam vets who will stand up to Kerry in honor of their fathers.
There were entire families with kids and even infants in strollers there!
When the Edwards motorcade finally got there, all four corners were a sea of Bush signs! The windows were down and I could see the disappointment in the face of Liz Edwards when she realized they were driving straight into BUSH COUNTRY!
Let's keep up the great work and spread the word about FReerepublic!

Excellent report and great FReep! Your turnout, ours in Cocoa Beach, and the handful of Edwards supporters on hand in Orlando make it clear that Florida is Bush Country. Can't wait for the pics. Give a ping when they're up!
