Imagine one place for all of our intelligence under one umbrella. A clearinghouse for all information. A central intelligence agency. Wait, don't we already have one?

You have a talent for finding the dark cloud behind every silver lining.

You have a talent for only focusing on the present and not considering the future ramifications of having this office exist under the command and control of a Democratic President.

I would agree with McCain (seems up his alley) but Arizona now has a Dem Governor making this unlikely.

Rudy would be the best, giving him about 2 years to get the Department up and running, then having him step down to take on Hillary in 2006!!!!

No, I don't think that's Rudy's forte. I could see him on Ashcroft's staff but "He's a Leader". Senate next, governor of NY after that!! I think he has the Power to turn NY Repub!!

How the heck did they ever find that computer nerd Mohamed in Pakistan without having a central bureau of Intelligence or implementing any of the 911 Commission recommendations yet?!! < /sarc>

That being said, if it's a fait accompli then Rudy is the man for the job...

I like that scenario.

If it's Rudy, then we'll need to clone him so he can also run for the Senate, assuming he were to stay in the new position very long.

"Woohoo! More growth in government!"

But he doesn't want it to be a cabinet level position.

The Democrats won't go for that, as their goal was not to improve our ability to connect the intelligence dots, but to put an individual into the White House to use alternatively as another bludgeon against President Bush or Dem propaganda tool to inflate the popularity of their next feuhrer.

I'm still reading the 9/11 Comission Report. Haven't made up my mind if this is the correct decision. (Intelligence "Czar"....btw, am I the only one that thinks naming anyone a "Czar" is dumb? I mean, they killed the last Czar and his entire family if memory serves....grin)

GWB needs to immediately create the position and appoint Rudy to get the thing off the ground. I'd really like to see the dims fillibuster that appointment just before the election.

" I'd really like to see the dims fillibuster that appointment just before the election."

I like that too! (IMO, Bush knows how to set his opponents up so that in the end, they hang themselves)

Bush's team has been meeting a lot lately specifically to discuss this.

They don't do things for political reasons.

I can see both sides.

I can understand why many here don't want yet another agency......but this is a director who is in charge of all the agencies even above Homeland Security.

This is not some bloated program being added to the budget.

I personally lean toward your position that we need somebody to combine all the info and take charge of all the agencies.
